i haven't lived in Iowa since 1989 so I'm out loop with Iowa prep wrestling. I haven't heard much about Rathbun. Will someone give me an overview of what to expect from him? Also, I haven't heard anything about him from flo I think I heard or saw that he wrestles Greco. Thanks.

Rathbun is a 3-time Iowa HS champ. Runner-up his Freshman year. Pretty dominant his last two years with few matches that weren't bonus points. He injured his knee during state tourney his senior year, so he basically wrestled the last 2 1/2 matches on one leg, with the bad knee pretty much immobilized.. He had knee surgery right after the state tourney, so hopefully the knee problem is behind him.

I don't think he does much greco, but does some freestyle. Good showing at Junior Duals, and he won Northern Plains to qualify for Fargo. He could use some significant wins at Fargo to make us Iowa fans feel better about 133 after Clark graduates. He hasn't really had many big wins outside of Iowa, but he's been pretty dominant against Iowa competition. His Track Wrestling profile lists quite a few good Iowa kids he's beaten the last couple years.

He's compact and very solid on his feet. Pretty much an Iowa style wrestler as he is heavy on the head and will push the pace on his feet. He started strong in his match with Murin at Conflict, but faded the last half of the match. Some folks on the forum are pretty high on Murin, and Rathbun appears to be right there with him.

Any chance one of the 141 guys cut down to 133 for 17-18? Who would be the most likely?

Wagner is going 120 in Fargo. Rathbun is going 132. Wagner would need a big growth spurt to be a full sized D1 133 pounder. It could happen, but my money would still be on Rathbun winning that match. They've been a weight or two apart for the past several years so not sure if they have many common opponents for comparison. Maybe they'll tangle in the room this fall and some spectators can give us the scoop on how they match up.

I'm well aware of what weight they are now. I said hopefully. I was going off of their credentials in larger tourneys not if they wrestled tomorrow. It would take a lot for Wagner to get to 133 but If he wants to be in the starting lineup then he'll eventually have to get there. This is not take anything away from Rathbun. It'd be great if he could get a medal this week.

I really wanna see all of the Iowa recruits medal at fargo. In regards to Happel at 133 I don't see it happening. This season he clearly went up a weight so his friend I believe Williams could wrestler 138. Think after the state tournament he was walking around at 146. Once he is in the Iowa room full time Rutt is gonna put some size and strength on him and he will become a solid 141. I am a big believer that Teasdale is gonna go as a true freshmen 133.
