We will begin ranked in the top 20
we will be 11-1 but win the West
Lose in the cc game
Because of our ranking, we still make it to a New Years Day bowl game
We will play a non power 5 team like Houston and WIN

My way way way early prediction would be 10-2 we win the west and lose in the CC game and get a New years day bowl against a SEC team.

Maybe this game today will keep expectations at bay this off season which would bode well for Iowa. Hawks ust don't do well when expectations are high in the off season. Right now, I have to go with 7-5.

Way too early prediction:

Iowa starts out ranked in the top 10. CJ's a winner so that will help, but they won't get the bounces the way they did this season plus the schedule is significantly tougher. I'm going with 9-3 and a Citris Bowl (or whatever it is named next season) bowl birth.

Does anyone know why so many backups were in for olinemen???

We have a lot of things to work with next year:

The offensive line could be better with another year with Doyle...replacing Blythe will be a challenge.
-need to find some TE's and FB's
-a 100% CJ will add to the offense
-still need to find WR's
-Lots of experience coming back on the front seven
-depending on King, we need to replace some experience here

If healthy, on paper, we should be better than this year.

For me, the elephant in the room is the overall talent of this team. In the past three bowls we have been manhandled by teams that have had multiple losses..but yet were far and away superior in talent. We can talk all we want about out working talent but that only goes so far.

Next year I think we are anywhere from 8-4 to 11-1 but if we would win the west again it would lead to another top bowl and another ass kicking....but I will still enjoy the ride

Back in the Rose Bowl vs Oregon (Stanford in the play-offs).
No and no.

Outback Bowl vs Arkansas for us....we most likely get rolled again.

Stanford will be breaking in a new QB, a couple WRs and almost the entire OL....doubtful they'll be in the CFBP.

I think winning the West is realistic next year. CJ is a difference-maker and he'll have some improved weapons. Our D under Parker is usually pretty good.

1) there were no "backups" in. James Daniels played the first couple of series. He has played a couple of series in just about every game this year.

They simply re-arranged the usual group (Welsh at RT instead of LG, Croston at LT instead of RT). When they took Daniels out, they opted to put the usual starting LT, Boone Myers, in at LG. So you had the starting 5 for every game since Maryland playing the last 90% of the game, just in different spots.

Now, that does beg the question, why our coaches were using the freaking Rose Bowl like it was spring practice to tinker around with the lineups, but you'd have to ask them about that.

Edit: after reading some Morehouse stuff, it looks like Boone Myers might have had an injury that necessitated all of the shuffling. That still wouldn't explain why Brian said in his interview with this site a few days ago that we had 7 healthy OL ready to contribute for the first time since pre-season.

We won a lot of close games and the ball bounced our way quite a bit. We will also have a target on our backs. Most of all the pressure is off KF. Whenever this happens we are unprepared to compete. I look for a regression to 6-6 or 7-5. This assumes KF always does what he does so I am playing the percentages.

3rd in the west behind the 2 NU's, although hoping we are playing for the west last game in November.

I have heard the questions about the reshuffling of the line and at first glance one might think how stupid to do this in a bowl game. When I sit back and really analyze the season I might actually tip my cap to Brian for at least recognizing a problem and trying to find an answer. If you really go back and look at our last 3-4 games we started to struggle immensely moving the football on the ground and pass protection issues remained. The Nebraska yards were inflated highly by 2 long Canzeri runs but by in large we got handled up front leading to 0-9 on third down. Against MSU we managed 52 yards and yesterday 48. The answer might not be shuffling personnel but that outside of Daniels recruiting has been poor and we play too many undersized/non physical guys. We are based on technique not physicality so we you go up against good talent we struggle mightily.

But in some ways at least we had one assistant coach who came into this game recognizing a problem and trying to address it.

9-3 is realistic. If the wheels come off could go 7-5. Win some tough games at home could be another great season. Yes 12-2 is a great season. No matter how it ended.

A returning, experienced QB is always a good thing...and a good leader to boot...who else would you want as a team leader to bring this new team out of the darkness of this Black Hole of a Rose Bowl?

It should be interesting...hopefully surgery will heal CJ in time, if needed. He needs his mobility or becomes a sitting duck against talented defensive lines.

Anyone want to recount the history of returning SR QBs in the Ferentz era?

CJ is a mature, competitive, leader... No one else I would want to bring Iowa back.

If he just had some talent at WR...who could also catch a ball!
