Rebounding, Again. Purdue Rebounded 50% of their Missed Shots & had 20 Second Chance Pts

It’s all broken down right here;
https://iowa.forums.rivals.com/thre...he-elimination-of-the-4-guard-offense.304327/

if you start 4 guard defense versus the #2 Off Rebounding team, the percentages say your going to lose that metric, maybe losing it big, and that has the potential to reduce your chances of winning, maybe greatly reduce your chances.

Conversely, Iowa went bigger more in 2H and not surprisingly outscored Purdue by +8 in 2H.

Iowa played 2 bigs more in the first than the second.

Kriener and CP combined for 2 rebounds. Pemsl was atrocious in defense right next to the basket.

Wieskamp and Connor should not have an issue boxing out Bodreaux. Hes not much bigger than they are.

Having said that, I agree in this game Kriener should have played as many minutes as possible and probably would have but he hurt his knee.

No it doesn't because RK and CP played in the first half too.
Well, let’s see, Kriener and pemsl both got in after Iowa was done ~10 in ~5m,
so, you are blaming them for that deficit too?

let’s see, they played 8 and 4m, but with Garza sitting ~2m, that means the 2B lineup was deployed with kriener and Garza for no more than 6m, and a perfect example of how Fran has mismanaged the minutes and is the primary contributor to Iowa being run out early.

Recall when Kriener and Garza start together at home, they blow out league leader MD by 19 in 1st half, and top 10 KenPom tOSU by 16 in 1H, but by all means continue to explain why Iowa’s 4G defense as superior...?

kriener did start 2H and contributed 7pts and 3 blocks, contributing huge defense to the 25% Purdue shooting and being significant contributing factor on both offense and defense, that resulted in Iowa coming back being +8, that’s should start becoming crystal clear correct..??

One thing of note, it seemed to me we went downhill after Joe T went out of the lineup in the first half. He is probably the best rebounding point guard I’ve seen at Iowa since Horner. He’s so powerful and quick to the ball.

Now I fully expect Legend to debunk my theory with actual stats.

Lots of posters including me, feel like next years team will surpass what this years team has accomplished with everyone of our starters returning, plus the injured players and freshmen recruits. BUT, unless Fran and his coaching staff make a concerted effort to teach Iowa's players how to box out and rebound it won't matter who returns next year. The results may be a tad bit better, but the end result will be the same as his last 10 years.
Defense and rebounding is the essential backbone of college basketball and Fran and his coaching staff haven't figured this out.
Spend most of the off season concentrating on that aspect of the game and let the offense take care of it's self.
It's been 41 years since Iowa even sniffed a Big Ten title and if it doesn't happen next year, it could be another 41 years, in either case if it doesn't happen next year lots of older Hawk fans including myself may never see it again.
1995 we finished one game out.
2005 we finished one game out.

It's crazy that we are in year 10 and Fran will always be known for great offense and horrific rebounding and overall defense

someone should tell Fran that you can't score if you don't rebound the basketball on the defensive end
OK.

Fran, you can't score if you don't rebound the basketball on the defensive end. No RELB for you!
