relatives playing high level sports

To be fair, I think any of us who started and were halfway decent at least had those offers. I'm glad I decided to go to Iowa instead.
This is insane. Decent starters aren't getting D2 offers or looks unless they're built like a brick shithouse or have elite speed.

People calling D2 or D3 sports low level and insinuating any decent player could do what they do is just dumb.

My dad’s second cousin was a former Hawkeye TE who became an NFL Pro-Bowler and All-Pro.

My grandmother on my dad’s side started on UNI’s first softball team.

My mom won a couple bronze medals at the HS state swim meet in Michigan, and had an opportunity to swim at a larger college, but took a full music scholarship at Northwestern in Orange City instead.

Whatca got?

I found out recently my cousins son (moms brothers sons kid) just got picked up by P4 basketball school. The family is super stoked.

Do you have any relatives playing high level college or pro sports?
My second cousin played in the major leagues many years ago.

Both brother in laws, one was in the NFL for 7 or 8 years, the other was a top motor cross racer. They are on opposite sides of the family. (one is my sister's husband the other my wife's brother)

Currently my nephew plays D1 football, and I have a niece that will play D1 soccer next year.
Unfortunately got to correct: it's Motocross but that's okay. Not going to judge since there is a motor

I played football at UNI. Grew up in Eastern Iowa and was a huge hawk fan. Had an opportunity to walk on at Iowa but didn't like the way Reese Morgan communicated, and received scholarships from FCS which easily swayed my decision. My teammates still call me a "Hawk Head" to this day and give me crap for being a big Iowa fan in college.
I once had a real brief encounter with Reese Morgan. It's a long story and it was real short encounter no biggie but I do see what you mean about his communication skills.

Son is going to play D1 golf.

Could have went DIII for a different sport.

Lukas Van Ness asked my daughter out and she declined.

Used to do a tax return for an ex Hawkeye football player that had a stint in the NFL.

Have a few clients actively working in the MLB and NFL. Coaching that is.

Get a Christmas card from Brian Ferentz and family. :)

Couple cousins played football at Iowa . One started in the secondary. Uncle wrestled for Gable. Cousin won two national titles for Brands.

Yes. Spencer Brown

Awesome, thanks! That's right he is from Northern Iowa.

He's a very important piece of their offensive line. He struggled a bit his first two years, and then really came into his own last year and had an excellent year. He took a huge step, and he and they must be over the moon.

Shhhhh..... let them keep that dream. Also you will notice anyone that "played a little ball" never actually played, and sure as shit didn't stay 4 years.

I'll agree on D2 but I certainly wouldn't call D3 high-level. The main reason why Wartburg, Loras, Central, etc. exist is because of sports. Kids that were good, not great, in HS want to get their last 4 years in.

There's a ton of great high school football players playing D3. Sure, there's some decent high school kids that get to play because it's simply a numbers crunch and filling hundreds of teams with 80-100 kids each year is damn near impossible.

D3 is, for the most part, high level football that a vast majority of high school kids can't play. The high school team I coach has had a really solid run the last five or so years and by far our best player during that time quit after a few years at Central because he couldn't play.

I played at Waukee when we were winning state championships and consistently going to state finals in the early 2000s.

I originally had a scholorship to go to UW milwaukee but lost it due to a motorcycle injury. I ended up playing d3.
There is a major gap between high school and d3 athletics. The difference between d1 and d3 is peak athleticism, no doubt, but it is often consistency in the skill as well. A d1 player might "make the throw" 80% and d3 might be 60%

I always looked down on the lower tiers, I actually probably cost myself with a "I'm going D1" mentality, d3 and NAIA are light years better than high school. Those are really good athletes. I don't remember the numbers, something like 3% of all High school athletes will play after HS. Saying "I could have" is like me saying I could have been a doctor, if someone would have only told me to focus on school, dumb. It isn't just can you play, it's can you manage School while developing.
