Tonight's game seems like it could be the turning point for these guys. Overcame a big deficit in a short amount of time in a tough environment playing 5v8 and overcome our close game woes and make a shot in the waning seconds to win a close game with our backs against the wall. Even though Wisconsin looked like trash they have won a lot of games this year and have a lot of veteran players. So proud of our Hawks no matter what happens the rest of the season!

I remember the many days fans on this board would say the Iowa players were garbage and Fran can't coach.

I also remember when popular sentiment was JoBo was a fallback recruit who wasn't a B1G caliber player.

Winning cures a lot of stupid.

I wish that were true.

Just recall that we had debate this season over how many years we give Fran, again. Sooner or later one would think this program has earned a little faith.

Yeah but those guys aren't here they will show up next time Iowa lose and we can all bond together and tell them to shut the **** up and we don't like their kind around here ,lol.

But seriously this board is so fun to read without those idiots.
When we lose again we should all post positive things like we won the game that would really throw off the haters.

I don't even u know why they are Hawkeye fans if you only post after losses why watch the games? Half the time after losses I won't look at this board for a few days it makes me mad the stupidity of some, most who have never even played basketball in their life either.

This season is playing out like I hoped for. Actually better. We were/are a young but talanted team. We would have great wins. But some head scratchers too. By the end of the year had hoped to be a team nobody wanted to face. We are just that. Thought we'd be a borderline NIT team. Seems we are a solid NIT team and can play ourselves into the NCAA perhaps.

Hopefully it is a turning point momentum wise, but I am not sure Iowa did anything different than they normally do. Wisconsin did several things down the stretch to give that game away.

Remember?
I think I was reminded this in the game thread

To be honest, Iowa got several breaks from the officials as well. JBo clearly travelled at the end of the first half before Baer's big three for starters.

I've got a thread on TOS from the day Bohannon committed. It's been bumped about 5 times so far this year. It's Beautiful

good thread...now lets get this last one at home in senior day against Penn State..they are not a team to take lightly...their freshman are very talented..won't be a walk in the park.

I think as big of a win as last night was it is equally as important to close out against Penn St on senior night. It is imperative we don't lay an egg. Young guys need to ride this momentum and continue to gain confidence. The key is not to gain too much confidence and think you're invincible.

I think this group has "it". Clutch end of game shooter, athletic dunker, developing big men, shooters for days, and confidence beyond their years. I am so excited for the near future. The stones on Bohannon are going to haunt the Big 10 for the next 3 years.

Sometimes winning is as much about just not making mistakes than it is doing something amazing. Iowa kept competing even when behind by 9, got some breaks and took advantage. Wisconsin was the team making 2 turnovers in the last 2 minutes and missing free throws.

In terms of Iowa doing anything different, the big thing (duh) was Bohannon knocking down the open 3 to win the game. Yes, a lot had to go right to get to that point but someone has to step up and knock down the shot. He was ready for the moment.

Pemsl's court awareness in the last minute was really good. On the previous possession, Happ had barely grabbed the rebound when Pemsl fouled him before he could pass. If Happ is allowed to get the ball to one of the guards, game goes much differently. Then Pemsl's awareness after he grabbed the offensive rebound. He knew where he was going with the ball before he grabbed it. Perfect pass to let Bohannon step into the 3.

It has been quite a while since I felt like an Iowa basketball team has capitalized on mistakes enough to win a close one. They did that last night. They capitalized on both officiating mistakes and opponents mistakes. I'm not sure you can teach that, it takes a certain kind of competitor to be able to do it. The future of Iowa basketball is bright.

This victory won't soon be forgotten. Who can forget the Bohannon boys celebrating a Hawkeye win behind the Iowa bench in Madison?

Thanks for the great replies. This game reminded me of 2011 against Purdue when they were #6 .
A team that couldn't really put things together for much of the year but overcame a lot and beat a really good team.
I'm not claiming that this this Iowa team is bad or that Wisconsin is that good, but last night's game seems like they climbed up to the next rung on the ladder.
I feel like that Purdue game turned the corner for us, that we were leaving the era of bad basketball. Could this be the step that we take that puts us at that next level? The future of this team looks awesome, hope they can deliver!

I loved Jarryd Cole for honoring his commitment and playing his senior year. He had a great senior year on a team that improved throughout the season. The Purdue win convinced me we had hired the right person to lead us out of the nightmare that was Lickliter's tenure. This season is confirming that Fran is the man.
