Rider Grades

I saw a lot of reasons for encouragement in Kemerer's match. First of all, I think a mediocre grade is reasonable in this case, as he wasn't sharp at all, especially in the latter part of the 2nd and pretty much all of the 3rd. His shape seemed to be lacking, which is unusual for him, but it's early in the season and not a shocker.

The really good news is that he majored a pretty solid, pretty highly ranked opponent, and he wasn't anywhere near his best in that match. If he's on his game, he's quite possibly looking at a tech fall against that guy, who was ranked #7 at the time of that match. Not too shabby.

So, in a lackluster performance by his standards, Kemerer majors the #7 guy and wins B1G wrestler of the week. That's a mighty good sign for things to come.

Kemdawg looked winded in some early matches last year. I remember thinking it might have to do with wrestling up a weight and having to go against guys who were stronger than him. But he still managed a fairly decent season...

Agreed. He had a close match in Carver vs ISU if my memory serves correct.

I grade this thread a B- so far. That grade can go up if pics of hot chicks enjoying ice cream cones appear. Vanilla only please!

There's been talk about Kem being bigger. Could that have something to do with some early struggles with conditioning?

He was definitely small last year, so it wouldn't be surprising if he spent more time in the off season hitting the weights than he spent on cardio. Either way it's nice to have a guy where we're nit-picking about a MD over a top-10 level guy early in the season.

But that was his first ever match in Carver. Brandon had those yips too. Seems like a lot of guys do.

Like Tom says Kemerer still has a period left in him. He dominated for six minutes but had to let off the gas.
