Riley Mulvey Commits to Iowa

Ooh, tough guy. Big baby doesn't like it when his players are accused of cheating. I even said it was ridiculous, but it's the same baseless innuendo that gets posted here all the time about Illinois. Even worse, you guys are serious about it.
It's true. Your team is well know for cheating.

Congrats Riley! Seems like a really good get for the Hawks. Already a decent build for a really young kid, with what seem to be very long arms. Could become an elite defender near the basket. Has some lift and agility around the basket. Since I don't see any shots, I assume that is what he needs to work on most.

I think I posted the following in the wrong thread. ESPN has this kid graded at 83 and ranked as a 4*. Ironically, that is exactly where Luka was in his final ranking, nationally no. 100 exactly with a 4* rank and a grade of 83. That grade puts Riley in the 90-110 nationally area.

EDIT: In the final 2021 rankings Riley's ESPN Grade of 83 would place him between national number 79-87. ESPN does its rankings as sort of an opposite methodology. This is a great committment!

I'm still trying to figure out who this guy is. He never wrote anything else for that entire sports network (24/7 or whatever), he has no biography anywhere that I could locate, no other sports articles that I could find, and I'd like to see his affiliations. 100:1 odds this guy went to Notre Dame or some dopey rival school like that.

The fallout was a finding of "lack of institutional control," a way for the NCAA to inflict a major penalty for a string of self-reported minor violations, even though the main allegations were never proven. (LaPhonso Ellis later said that Digger Phelps coerced him into making an allegation.) Both Bruce Pearl and the NCAA ended up looking really bad after this investigation. For one, Bruce Pearl enlisted the help of Rich Hilliard, an NCAA investigator who was a former colleague of Pearl's at Boston College. The NCAA was forced to change its enforcement ways after numerous court challenges that went to the Supreme Court. There's too much to get into but the idea that Deon Thomas sought to monetize his recruitment and that Bruce Pearl "snitched" on both Thomas and Jimmy Collins is a joke. From the very beginning, Illinois defended itself against the allegations and yet still lost in the big picture. Not appealing had nothing to do with "public sentiment." Both Deon Thomas and Jimmy Collins remained connected to the U of I program to his day, until Jimmy's recent passing. Deon Thomas recently said in a Field of 68 video with Dee Brown that he chose Illinois to be a star in his home state for life. Deon was raised by his grandmother who disliked Bruce Pearl. Pearl would badger the Thomas household with dozens of a calls day and night. It was ridiculous. Pearl was so desperate he spliced tapes to make his case, and then said he threw the original tapes away when called out on it. Remember too that Pearl was later caught lying red-handed to the NCAA when he denied hosting a Tennessee recruit when the NCAA already had a photo of the recruit(s) at Pearl's home. Seriously, you guys should raise a banner for Pearl if you love him so much and believe his story. Whatever it takes to win, I guess.
It's a fact that Illinois has been paying their players since 1966 so it's not just the Deon Thomas story. You being such a big Illini fan should know your history you ****ing douche bag.

They aren't called the "Cheatin' Illini" for nothing. The Illini defense on Thomas was laughable.

There isn't a fact question about what Neon Deon said, that part was recorded. There isn't a fact question that Thomas made the ask for a better deal than a new Blazer. Again, that part is recorded.

The only fact questions are (1) who owned the Blazer in which Thomas tooled around-that was never made clear and surrounded by smoke; and (2) Did Illinois really make the offer and provide a Blazer.

If Thomas was telling the truth then Illinois committed a major recruiting violation. If Thomas was lying then the Illini took a player that they knew was a liar and who had egregiously defamed them. Doesn't really sound like an institution concerned with the citizenship quality of its players.

Whoever wrote that is a moron. This statement is absolutely ridiculous and gives credence to Bruce Pearl's allegation of $80,000 and a Chevy Blazer--both of which have never been found nor would be easy to hide--and after an NCAA investigation were never found to be true:

"...such a scandal would be mostly viewed from the perspective of Deon Thomas, a high school phenom trying to monetize his valuable skills."

Everything else is at least 35 years ago, even before the Bruce Pearl scandal.
Well, they never found Jimmy Hoffa either. Just saying...

Woodbury 2.0 🙄

kidding. I love this get, looks like one of the more complete big men to enter the program in a long time. Good shooting stroke (the high release is eerily similar to Garza’s), good bounce, good shot blocking ability. Didn’t see much of a left hand in any of the posted videos, but I guess they aren’t definitive of anything one way or the other. Only way I’d like this more is if he wore goggles. I saw his glasses in his commitment video and really got my hopes up. Was about to be my new favorite player

Also, why the hell are there more posts about Illinois in here than Iowa’s new/future big man?

If there are admins on here, I'd be okay with deleting all Illinois posts. I can only delete my own. Not trying to disparage the big guy's big day committing to Iowa. I made a funny and then it went south.

p.s. I just deleted all of my off-topic posts. I apologize to the big guy and Iowa fans for the distraction.

Can't we just move on from the Thomas recruiting scandal after all these years. Who really cares anymore, and if you really look at it Pearl has on many occasions proved just how trustworthy he is and also been in trouble with the NCAA enough by his own cheating ways. I consider him a piece of garbage and wouldn't ever want him to coach anything for Iowa.

It is really hard to judge a 6'11" guy that may be playing against a 6'3" player. All those blocked shots could be fools gold. He seems pretty talented tho.

Sorry but if he is on the same level as Josh O the Hawks could be headed for the dumpster once Nunge moves on. Hoping I am wrong and both kids become solid B10 players.

Their respective profiles are very different. ESPN graded Josh 76 which translates into a midlevel 3* (also their rank) and ranked 55th center. Riley is graded 83, ranked 4* and ranked 25th center. This is a much bigger sign than Josh.

Josh needs to get in shape so he gets the playing experience he needs. Josh showed a great attitude on the bench, always smiling and excited for teammates. Riley might be much readier for immediate PT. Of course Josh will be a senior that season so let's hope we don't need a freshman starter (or Riley blows up into a monster).

Good news. Josh O will at most be a sophomore.

That season?

Saw an interview where he stated that he has grown 3 inches per year the past few years. Said he always knew he would grown into the Center position. I wonder if he has one more year of growth.... 7ft1 or 7ft2 with his agility and leaping ability .... I'm OK with that.
