I made this same Marcus Smart body type comparison about two months ago on this board and I still stand by this opinion. He is not your typical 6''1" 180 lightning quick PG rather he is 6'3'/6'4" 210 and has long arms (wingspan of nearly 6'10" I have read). He moves his feet well to avoid reaching fouls and can post up well. His perimeter shooting is improving as he works hard to be better and he can usually dribble drive pass his man to penetrate to the basket for a good shot or draw multiple defenders and dish a teammate an easy assist.
He is not sloppy with his dribbling.

Jordan has to work on improving his 52% free throw success but he is a guy who want to win and is unselfish about his work ethic for the game. Anyways, here is the link:

Looks like a solid player, but I am sure fans will argue he isn't a top recruit and won't want him.

I hope Fran makes a solid push for this kid.

Jordan has been upgraded lately from #87 to #65 on Rivals 150 2017 list and could break top 50 by the end of summer. He is already better than Frank Williams's son Da'Monte (#54) , an ILL-Annoy commit and fellow IL HS prospect Nojel Eastern (#55) who is a just a shooter. Da'Monte will convert to PG in college as well and needs to fill out body. Da'Monte will likely be another headcase at ILL-annoy.

Connor McCaffery is still holding at #90 on the Rivals list. Jordan has been to Iowa twice and has both a football and basketball offer at Iowa. Basketball is his money sport. Jordan could afford to drop some bad weight and slim down to 200-205. Strong hands, rarely looses the ball. Fierce competitor.

I hope Fran goes after him! Looks like a solid player who could be HUGE for the hawks. How many schollys does Iowa have for 2017?

Would not be opposed of Fran getting this kid however I dont think he is the PG we need. I really wish Iowa would have a couple ships open up over these next couple recruiting cycles. Connor is just not a B1G PG and Iowa still needs a solid all-around type PG for Frans offense. Goodwin looks like a nice 2 or 3 to have on the team that can add some B1G style scoring toughness and if we had a couple open ships I'd say give him one and find a PG with the other. However Fran has a glut of guys on this team already that play the 2 and 3 positions.

Agree on Connor. SG material. Weiskamp at SF. Another PG in 2018 that Fran knows about is 6'2" Courtney Ramey who is now teammates with 2018 PF 6'8" 245 Top #25 Recruit Carte'Are Gordon at Webster Groves, MO (Western St.Louis area). Ramey is top 100 material and quicker than JG but an equally fierce competitor. St. Louis area on both side of Mississippi will have multiple basketball talents in near future. Freshman EJ Liddell is another Belleville, IL name to watch at 6'6".He might transfer from Belleville West to Althoff Catholic to join Goodman in their next year's state title run.

Also, the St.Louis Billikens MBB program is down and they are searching for a new HC. St. Louis vicinity is ripening with some D-1 BB talent.

I see a little Rayvonte Rice, for Drake/Illinois comparison... Rice probably shot it better from outside but he started out more of a take it to the rack guard and that's what I've seen from Jordan.

aren't both the 2017 and 2018 classes full already?
If I understand correctly, then with Hutton/Fleming leaving we have 2 open scholarships. Assuming one is used on Baer at some point, we have one open scholarship, and Jok and Jones (barring a medical redshirt- I don't quite understand this situation) are set to graduate this year. So Fran could, to my knowledge, bank the one open scholarship to 2017 (or use it in '16 on a Vital) and potentially have another one open, as Connor McCaffery is the only current commit in '17.

So if Fran doesn't take somebody yet in '16, then we should have (minus Jones, Hutton, Fleming, Jok. plus McCaffery and presumably Baer) 2 open scholarships for '17... right?

Vital will mostly not be a difference maker and looks to be shorter than 6'2" and not very muscular. He seems to have scoring talent and quick but I really do not see any value in adding a marginal second tier BB talent who would have to redshirt or produce little when Fran could land a top 150 recruit or better. Iowa needs contributors not benchwarmers.

2432Hawk... I can see the Rayvonte Rice comparison but Rice did not play very good defense and rarely passed. When he got the ball, he shot or dribbled to get a shot. Jordan is a very unselfish team player who has a strong work ethic and would show more ball handling skills if he were not one of the taller guys on his HS team. Tyler Cook really likes him (JG) and they played AAU ball for the St.Louis Eagles 17U club last year. The more Jordan assists his teammate the more opportunities fall into Jordan's lap. Jordan could afford to down 10 lbs but a lot of HS kids are still growing and diets can be less than desirable. Rice ballooned up to 240 lbs and that affected his overall game.

The knock of Rice was he lacked ideal NBA size to be a shooting guard at 6'4". Jordan is 6'3"/6'4" range and very determined to improving his overall game everyday. If Jordan is truly serious at playing in the NBA, the point guard spot is where he needs to develop himself. Illinois already has 2016 PG Tejon Lucas and fellow 2017 commit PG/SG Da'Monte Williams (Frank Williams' son) in line for the PG spot. Jordan could run circles around Jordan Bohannon (I am serious) and could be one of best MBB players Iowa had ever had on campus. Jordan's probably not going to finish this summer in the Rivals Top 30 but he might move from #65 (current rank) to top #40. Not a one and done guy. Someone to build a team.

Jordan's St.Louis area ( Belleville,IL) is starting to develop several major BB talents. 2018 PG Courtney Ramey and PF Carte'Are Gordon (both of Webster Groves,MO) have Iowa offers and are highly valued recruits. While Iowa will not land 2017 Top 5 National recruit SF Michael Porter, his younger brother 2018 PF/C 6'9"Jontay Porter may be a player that will reopen his commitment to Washington as his college coach ( also his "Godfather") Lorenzo Romar is on a big hot seat. UW is searching for a new AD and Romar has not taken the Huskies MBB program to the NCAA tournament in 6 years. Washington did have 8 freshmen on their roster last year and the new AD may give Romar another year to prove himself but Romar's job is a ticking time clock. Jontay is still growing and developing. Jontay knows Tyler Cook as well.

I mean, I wasn't really suggesting what the Hawkeyes should do with their open scholarships, just explaining that getting a player in this class was an option (and to my knowledge Vital is the only one with an offered scholly still in the '16 class)

I don't really know enough about Vital to comment on him, but I do think the Hawks would be best suited either giving Baer his scholly and banking the other two to '17, or if Baer isn't getting a scholarship, then banking what I believe would be three scholarships to '17, if not for the sake of balancing out the classes a bit.
