Finally watched it this week while on planes - I’d seen clips here and there but not the entire movie.

I thought it was very well done with great performances all around. I feel like Pacino had slipped into an over the top caricature for the last 25 years but thought he was absolutely fantastic in this.

What do you all think?

I think I could have been truly great had they went with younger actors and inserted DeNiro in the proper context. I still enjoyed it.

I thought it was better than people were giving it credit for. Although I thought the gripe about the actors was valid. At the same time we won't get to see some of these actors for much longer either.

We’re so used to seeing guys like DeNiro, Pesci and Pacino as younger bad a$$es in movies like The Godfather, Goodfellas, Heat, Casino, etc. I enjoyed The Irishman, but I also had mixed feelings about seeing all these guys (or strange cgi versions of themselves in some scenes) trying to be much older bad a$$es. For instance, the scene when DeNiro’s character was beating that guy on the street. So odd and confusing. At least bring in a stunt double to make it look like an actual beating, not a turtle walking over a pile of sticks on the road.

Still, it was nice to see all these guys together for what was probably their last hurrah as mafia types.

Not a Scorsese guy. I honestly don’t get the appeal. Not a single character in any of his movies has a shred of decency.

I saw it at a theater in Windsor when it first came out. Love the movie, just too damned long.
