Ronnie Harmon - Rose Bowl

Here are some videos of the 4 first half fumbles.

You can argue that a couple of them would have been overruled, but I'm not sure I agree,

But I don't know know how anyone can argue with the point that those fumbles came out of his hands VERY easily. I don't see any secret fumble-causing action by UCLA.

The man has hands the size of softball gloves. He didn't drop passes and didn't fumble, until .......
The only one that looks odd is the first one because of the angle. I assume he never had the handoff because it just flies out of there.
The second looks like his knee was down and the third probably could have been ruled incomplete, but still hand got in there. Just like the last one. So if it were intentional he had to wait until just the right play?

Did he or, didn't he?

Let's get this settled, once and for all. No place better to do this than the internet
The dropped TD pass was thing final sign ... Koolianos Johnson fixed that embarrassing loss to winless Minnesota whenever he played too. Iowa football has a long history as a point shaving program for gamblers.

As far as it being overturned in today's game - that's not really relevant.

That's 4 fumbles and a dropped TD pass. I watched him play for 4 years - to me, each one of those was shocking to see. Seeing all 5 of them was like seeing a pig fly. It's simply impossible.

That 1985 team is my favorite Iowa football team, and it was led by my favorite Hawkeye. I did not take that game well and it still bothers me. Ronnie threw the game for money.

But it doesn't bother me if people want to say otherwise. I'm not trying to win an argument. It's just what I believe.

I am late on this thread but there is no doubt Harmon's actions in the game were intentional. Norby Walters, the agent that was already paying Harmon and would become his agent, worked for Colombo Family Capo, Michale Franzese (He was the son of the Colombo Family Underboss). Franzese was very much involved in sports gambling and point shaving... This is well documented and not under any question...
Facts:
1. Ronnie Harmon took money in advance/during his career at Iowa from Lloyd Bloom and Norby Walters who were "sports agents" who got their business off the ground with money from Michael Franzese a Colombo Family Capo.
2. Michael Franzese was heavily involved in gambling rackets and point shaving.
3. Iowa was a 4.5 point favorite over UCLA in the Rose Bowl.
4. Harmon fumbles on the first play from scrimmage which was a first and goal for Iowa... and he continues to cough up the ball and drop easy passes throughout the game...
5. Franzese later gets convicted and goes to prison for all sorts of mafia shit... Lloyd Bloom is later murdered in 1993 in his home in Malibu, allegedly b/c he was going to start talking and cooperate with law enforcement.

Too many coincidences on this. Ronnie Harmon definitely was either paid to, or threatened into throwing the game...
He may not have been Art Schlichter.. but his name is mud in my book.

I was in HS and incredibly naive. It was a different era....no mass communication via social medial etc. With that, as a naive HS junior, I looked at my dad and said, "He is fumbling on purpose, why would he do that?'

I saw an interview with Buffalo Bills QB Jim Kelly after he retired.Kelly spoke if a play-off game in Cleveland where the Bills were coming back from a deficit late in 4th Q and the call inside the Browns 10 TD. Line. A pass play was called and Harmon was “wide open” in the corner of the end zone…Kelly delivered the ball cleanly to Harmon, who dropped the pass. The next play was 4th down, and the Bills called the same play…Kelly stared Harmon was “more wide open than the previous play” but he never considered throwing the ball in his direction. I hate to say it but I believe Ronnie was dirty. His agents were crooks and unfortunately, so was Ronnie. Might have been Hayden’s best offensive player but I think he was tainted.

Ive been thinking it was 3 all these tears for some reason. This is even more suspect then.

Ronnie is a criminal who got away with it
Could he be related to someone who is going to work in the White House? Sorry

Bills fan here... As a matter of fact I'm a bills fan because of Ronnie. Talked to many bills fans over the years about this.... Most recently this year at the Houston Texans game... Well this year nobody remembered him... I was talking to younger people.. but if I talked to the old timers they recall! Not really fans , of Ronnie, the old timers

DJK was the only dude trying in that 2010 Minnesota loss ha. Seriously go back and rewatch that game. Everyone else flat out quit except for DJK.

Wrong, a bar, so the beer and whiskey can do the talking!

Hayden should have benched for the game after the second one.

I ever get a chance to run into Dan McCarney again I will ask him his opinion on it. He won't hold back. I know someone who is real good friends with him and I am sure they have discussed this.

I dunno, but if I am Chuck Long that far into my career there and in that big game, I am jumping his shit big time and in front of everyone else.

Late to the thread. I was at the game and I believe he did. Fumbled once all year (I think that was the case) and then suddenly couldn't hold on to the ball in the Rose Bowl -painful to watch.

He and his brother Kevin both had new Honda scooters, like the big ones, I think they were the 250 cc versions. Fairly pricey back in the day. I remember seeing Kevin on his mostly, zooming around campus. I even heard through the grapevine at the time that Kevin rode his back home to New Jersey.
Had lots of bling also. Drew Ott drove his scooter to Nebraska!

I had a class with Ronnie in the fall of ‘85. He was rarely in class, and when I did see him around campus, he was on his expensive new red Honda Scooter. The only students riding them in ‘85 were rich kids, and an athlete being paid “under the table” from his agent, IMO.

I always heard about a bronco and a Camaro

Listen to his interview, it starts 61 minutes into this video:

I question it from time to time, but on balance, he ALWAYS carried the ball like he never thought about fumbling. And...did the defense ALSO throw it? Not to mention, he still set a receptions record, and maybe receiving yards record, as well.

Still, he's playing "victim". And anyone who was REALLY around then knoew Ronnie was a loud mouth punk at times. And anyone who was will remember one name that put him in his place.

Tyrone Tracy flat-out told me he never saw any of the racism. Felicia Goodson did an interview and said Tyler NEVER saw it, and said Tyler loved Doyle. One phrase from Felicia: "I've been around racism all my life. Kirk Ferentz is not a racist"

three things were signs that the racism at iowa was not real: 1: national BLM leadership was all about buying houses and putting money in their pockets and not racism 2: kf did not get fired, only doyle. if it were rampant at iowa you need to clean house, 3: daniels { I think it was him} came out and said the entire state is racist. ok, good job of blanketing the entire state, way to go!!
