Roster is full; now on to 2016 (3 schollies available)

[QUOTE=" And I'd wager that Connor McC will not tie down a scholarship when it could be use to land a top 75 prospect (Michael Porter, please). Dad and Mom can afford to play his way. Dad's bonus for doing well at the tournament and pay raise with in state tuition would not be a great burden on the family.

No doubt they can afford to pay his way but maybe Connor has different thoughts on the subject. Maybe he wants to pay his own way through a scholarship that he has every right to earn. I understand your reasoning but I think you disregard what the kids thoughts on the subject might be.[/QUOTE]

Im going to assume that whatever Fran wants is what will happen with that.

I believe Fran has commented on this before and basically said if he has earned a scholarship he will have a scholarship and I agree w that. Now if he gets injured and needs to use a redshirt I could see him paying his own way in his 5th season but the kid is good enough for the ship so he should have a ship.

Yep, I agree, if he earns one he should have one. Just because dad's loaded doesn't mean he should have to pay to free up a scholarship.

I had to have some fun with my Roman Catholic friends' expense. Growing up as a Lutheran watching John Wooden's UCLA MBB clubs as a little kid, I learned the arrogance of Notre Dame sports lore. I can remember when UCLA had its 88 game winning streak snapped at South Bend in January of 1974. I later learned why Bill Walton was not interviewed much without Coach wooden (idiot)!

I can agree with the comment if Iowa could not land a top 75 recruit but I believe would forego the scholarship savings to land a major talent, if a one and done guy that could vault his program status up the food chain. Iowa will never be a blue blood MBB program but to secure a MBB recruit would could help you have real shot at the league title and at least a Elite Eight appearance would be worth paying Patrick's way for a time. A new contract raise and performance bonuses would pay than make up for the outlay. College basketball is a competitive business. Either you compete or you get beat. Fran has only so many years to be a head coach, especially at Iowa. There is talent in the St. Louis and Chicago areas in the next few years that Iowa needs to be actively recruiting if they ever want to knock off MSU, tOSU and Wisconsin the conference title holder spot.

Looks like Iowa State is considering adding 2 five year guys this week for this Fall.

It is an interesting concept.

You are adding a player with 4 years of college experience and a 22-23 year old man rather than an 18 year old boy to compliment your team and complete your roster.
