Saw on twitter from a non reporter but Rick Brown retweeted. Don't shoot the messenger if not true.

Saw that as well.

Wonder maybe if he is looking to get back home or somewhere that he can start. He still has his redshirt year, so he will get 2 more years.

I liked his game, but he never really improved from freshman year to sophomore year. I wish the kid nothing but the best. Hopefully he lands somewhere good.

I also get the feeling that Dailey may have been quietly improving in practice and that he's staying and could sneak into the rotation next year. He has the same size and length that CW does. If he can become a decent defender, it will be like we haven't lost anything.

Was hoping everyone would stay, especially guards. But if he wants to go it's a good time for him to leave so he still has 2 years to play. Maybe MVC might be the right fit after a year of sitting out and some B1G experience he may do well at a mid major type of school. Good luck to him regardless of where he ends up.

If true, then best of luck to CW wherever he ends up.

It will be interesting to see if Fran attacks the transfer market / trying to land a 2018 PG or winds up just giving the scholly to Connor.

Dailey looks like he has a lot more upside basketball wise. Seeing how loose CW is with his ball handling and his poor shooting stroke, it is surprising that Fran saw CW as a diamond in rough PG prospect.

I think CW can be a solid role player at college level. He should stay at Iowa. He ought to concentrate on getting his degree and use his experience as college athlete to launch his future in something other than basketball.

With his wingspan, Williams has the potential to become a very good defender and secondary rebounder, as a wing player, if he is on the team that doesn't need his position to score a lot. He seems way to hesitant playing PG, and maybe he would be more aggressive if he didn't feel the burden of running the offense. He really needs to work on his free throw shooting.

If true, good luck Christian. But please, please pick up a grad transfer guard Fran. Please. Let Connor redshirt and then get a schooly after next year.

I suppose with Bohannon having such a freagin' awesome year, and with Connor coming in, the writing was on the wall. But to me it is too bad more kids these days don't accept being a role player.

But, if true, best wishes to Christian and I hope wherever he choses works out well for him.

Sucks. I really like Williams' game. He was just not getting the minutes to develop as he could have.....had Bohannon not looked so darn good. I bet/hope that he is extremely successful wherever he lands. If this is true, the best of luck to him and I am sure there will be Hawkeye fans following his career.

Being a point guard didn't allow Williams the 2 or 3 seconds he used effectively as a high school quarterback to make decisions. Never thought his decision making amped up to basketball speed. At 1st I thought he was like Devon Marble & always operated at his own pace, but later he just seemed a split second behind what was in front of him.

Why would a grad transfer guard come to be a backup at Iowa? Would be shocked to not see moss/bohannon start again,
While Bohannon proved he can get the job done at PG (and done well), I think the team might be even better if we had a player who could penetrate and pressure the defense in that manner. Bohannon really didn't provide much of that this year. I don't think Bohannon's playing time would drop, he would just shift to an off ball shooter role while another PG is in the game.

It's an interesting question to see how Fran handles this (again, assuming speculation is true that CW is transferring). It may show Fran's comfort level with Bohannon + Connor/Existing guards to see whether Connor automatically gets the scholarship or if we do test the "free agency" market.

Just my two cents, again, but in the B1G we can't have a sub 6' guard at the two unless we find a point guard that can defend the two. Plus, watching Jok get killed trying to move off the ball to get open, how long does a Bohannon survive that?

IF, Fran decides to use this opportunity for a Grad transfer, I imagine the better play would be for a bigger combo...but, we've got that in Connor so, why?

Depth is the only question at guard, imo, Bohannon, Moss, McCaffery, Ellingson, Dailey...does Fran have confidence that is enough and that those guys are competitive level in the B1G?

Have u ever thought that maybe Connor isn't ready to play in the BIG right away?

Yeah - I definitely understand those concerns. I agree the penetrating guard would need some size (and defensive ability to go with it). However, if Jordan is only playing 10 minutes off the ball (and "off the ball" doesn't mean 100% without the ball), I don't know how beat up he'll really get.

Depth is really the key (and why I think it will be interesting to see what Fran does with an extra scholly. If he feels we've got what we need, then the expectations for next year rise. If he brings someone in, then I think we keep the expectation of "make the NCAAs in any capacity").

Connor is not going to redshirt. He should be an immediate contributor. Did you mean to say walk-on?

Reading between the lines, I think there are a lot of options on the table for the level of contribution Connor makes. It will depend on who stays and who leaves, what Connor's options are with baseball, etc. They range from Not at Iowa - Playing 20 minutes per game. Here are few possible scenarios I've heard from folks closer to the program than I, but no one has made a definitive declaration of which one it will likely be:

Prep School
Pro Baseball
UI Baseball, No UI Basketball
UI Baseball + UI Basketball
Redshirt (walk on or scholarship)
No Redshirt (walk on or scholarship)

Nope never thought of that. "Depth is the only question at guard, imo, Bohannon, Moss, McCaffery, Ellingson, Dailey...does Fran have confidence that is enough and that those guys are competitive level in the B1G?"

I have serious reservations that those guys can compete at the B1G level. If Fran goes looking for a transfer, I absolutely hope he can find a wing that will compete and maybe displace those players. We should always try to get better.

Dan...you know that their are people on here more informed and have basketball IQs that far exceed the coaching staff.

If anything we might see wat Maishe Dailey can do next year. As I've said I could see him starting the year at the three
Good lord....he was the 13th or 14th guy on the roster. This is where the Iowa fanbase is now? We have moved on from "knowing" the coach is wrong about the 8th or 9th and now predict the 13th guy will start next year????? Goodness

Obviously none of us know that for sure. But a lot of folks were saying Jbo wasn't B1G ready coming into this season...and most who have seen Conner and Jbo both play at the AAU level would say Conner is more advanced as a point guard.

Go Hawks!

I think it becomes a depth issue. I realize Connor is coming in, but Fran is going to need to find another PG if Williams is leaving. the sole purpose because Bohannon can't play 35-40min every night. His body won't allow it and we will risky injury.

I think Fran has to go the grad transfer route and get someone in w/experience. You see teams all over CBB doing it and its working out for them. Just get someone in here who can play right away and be a serviceable PG. Let Bohannon rest a little.

A lot of people seem to forget these kids play AAU ball against some of the best players in the country. If they do well in that arena, which by his ranking he must have been pretty good, then he can probably contribute as a freshman. Besides as a successful division one coach, and the kids father, don't you think Fran is the most qualified person to decide if Connor will be capable or not?

Exactly why Connor will be a bust for this fanbase... his own dad doesn't think he's good enough for a scholarship. Fran doesn't have to be Lavar Ball, but the phrase "a face only a mother could love" comes to mind.

So your sources have given you every possible scenario, and one of those will happen. Wow! Thats pretty enlightening!

So when did Fran say that Connor would not get a scholorship, ever? Basically he had the flexibility to get both Nunge, and Garza, so for now he'll pay Connor's way. I never heard Fran say he's not worthy of a scholorship, or did I miss that?

The kid played backup pg, out of position I might add, he was not the 13th-14th guy on the roster, "goodness". We need guards who can dribble into the lane and finish. He wasn't always the best at that but better than anyone else on the current roster. He would have been a great 3 but apparently won't get the chance here, too bad.

Sorry, I read this to be about Williams not Daily.
