Heard this in passing on local sports talk today and it is even worse than I thought. Considering the loans they have taken out from the University and the B1G, they have no idea when they will actually receive a share from the conference. The sad part of this mismanagement is that, the loans were all for operational expenses. None of this was allocated to capital improvements. The University President is now come under fire for improper reporting of the athletic loans from the university and even mentioning that he may just forgive the loans entirely.

Hard to imagine that with all of the financial advantages of being a B1G member, it would be this bad. I guess they will be playing in that high school gym, the RAC, in perpetuity.

Capital improvements were most certainly made. And we do get a “share”. Just not a full one. That will come in 26. The only thing changing is financial reporting which will be in line with all other B1G schools.

Since Rutgers and Maryland were added, Big Ten revenue went up almost 2x. You’re welcome.

there have been tons of capitol improvements. As Cali said, we currently get a portion but not our full share.
We don't want to give up the RAC........it's one of the toughest places for opposing teams to play in basketball. We like that part.

150 million for capital improvements. Great! It is how you get there is what is troubling. 70 million in loans from the university, 50 million in donations and 25 million in state tax credits.

Not here to bag on Rutgers after the loss last night. I also appreciate the cordial Rutgers fans that come in peace. I just find the whole situation unsustainable. If I were a Rutgers alumni and or donor, I would be pissed.

All jokes aside, adding Rutgers and Maryland to the conference was very head scratching. I'd have preferred Pitt and Syracuse.

Then you would have preferred making tens of millions less every year.

We just beat Syracuse this season and are like 5 out of the last 7 or something. Place is dump outpost in American Siberia.

Pitt's market is already had- Penn St.

Good thing Delany knew what he was doing. He added the biggest market in the world and a school currently sitting at 28 in the Director's Cup. You're welcome for those big checks you are cashing.

Easy fix. It's all how you account. Take student fees. How does Iowa account for those? In fact, how is Iowa's entire AD accounted for?

That's how NJ rolls. It's corrupt as hell. I pay $17K in property taxes and you would expect the schools would be in amazing shape. Nope. They are falling apart. Where is the money going?

Adding Rutgers never made any sense. The B1G at its core is Land grant state universities. Rutgers was just a stupid ploy to get the B1G head a big bonus by convincing others they were going to get more East coast eye balls, never mind the fact that nodody on East coast cares about Rutgers except Rutger grads.

Maryland at least had ACC b-ball resume.

I thought Missouri is the one B1G should have added or maybe Pitt to go along with Penn State.

Ummmm, Rutgers is a land grant university genius.

Check the money the B1G has been bringing in since adding Rutgers and our DMV. Better yet, get a basic understanding of how it was monetized via carriage fees.

There is going to come a time we start wondering why we are supporting Iowa.

You really think you're responsible? B1G fans tuning in especially to see the Rutger's games? Really?

It appears some of you guys have zero understanding of carriage fees and how and why Delany was able to add Rutgers and BTN to cable fees.

I hoping you guys aren't representative of Iowa fans knowledge base.

Big Ten media rights generated roughly $28MM/school the year before Rutgers and Maryland were added. Now they are pushing $60MM and going higher in the next deal. A lot higher. Why? Because of the biggest market in the world being added and the ability to monetize that via carriage fees.

This isn't rocket science guys. Take 15 minutes and educated yourself.

Here's a hint. It doesn't matter how many people do or don't watch our games, though you'd be surprised how well do in our DMV- the biggest one in the country.

Its wild to see how many people don’t understand how the business of college sports work. Go ahead and ask any AD, football or basketball coach in the B1G and not one of them will tell that you adding Rutgers and Maryland was a mistake. Both schools have made the conference tons of money.

Nebraska is the biggest head scratcher. They really don't bring much to the table. Basketball is horrendous and football has been declining every year. And they bring an absolutely horrible media market.

The Iowa athletic department is in better shape than Rutgers by any measurement you choose.

Snapshot. See me in 5 years. Wisconsin was worse than Rutgers not long ago. Maryland? Horrid shape. I am sure there are others. Don't worry, it's getting fixed. And then some.

You got us! Rutgers was the missing piece of the puzzle to the financial woes of the conference.

Never said the conference was having financial woes. But it would not be in the exceptional position it is now without access to the NYC/NJ market. That's a simple fact.

From a purely financial perspective, Rutgers adds more than Iowa based on that. Like I said, you're welcome.

Jersey even has better corn.

While we appreciate your deep concern about Rutgers finances, you don't have to worry. They are fine.

Besides, don't you guys have some sort of diversity advisory board to disband or something?
Seriously? You are claiming Jersey has better corn than Iowa? You just blew any creditability you may have initially gotten from your previous post. You will find no one, zero, nada outside of Jersey that would entertain that point. Stick to arguing whether adding Rutgers and Maryland helped the Big Ten because your knowledge of agriculture products is below pre school level.

The math is easy. It was never about the quality of the athletic programs being added and all about the number of households being added to the footprint.

Christ get over yourself dude. Like you'd be getting the payouts headed your way in a couple of years if the BIG had not brought you in? Shit YOUR welcome you were allowed to join the premier conference in the US.... Oh AND Iowa is a charter member of the BIG for over 115 years there, state University of Jersey.....

Again Jersey boy. Iowa is a charter member of the BIG. We allowed YOU to join, not the other way around.... YOUR welcome.....

your corn is to feed cows and ruin gasoline - and it's damn great at that... bravo....

Jersey corn is for humans to enjoy -- and everyone knows it.

Please return the extra revenue you have received; would not have come anywhere near it with Pitt and Syracuse and most likely would have diluted your share. Most RU fans know exactly why we were invited; location, location, location and $.

More $ and usually easy wins, We’re not complaining , great overall addition to the BIG !

Grew up in Iowa and have lived in NJ for half a decade. Sweet corn in both states is very good. It’s a draw.

Agree with all of this. Anyone who doesn't understand why Rutgers and Maryland were added is pretty clueless. Nebraska is a cluster f#@k.
