Ryan Kriener nominated for McDonald's All-American!

Isn't there like 1,000 people nominated for that game? I remember a kid in our local high school was nominated, yeah he wasn't even close to making it. Don't they save the game invites for all the "blue bloods" players?

While being nominated is nice, there are around 850 players nominated nationally I believe.

It's a very fair and equitable selection process run by Coach Calipari and Coack K. :rolleyes:

After all, what's a Happy Meal if not just a fancy name for a container filled with goodies and prizes for a youngster. Something like if a guy was filling a bag, a, bag man.

Wasn't it the last 2-3 years years ago that the state Iowa had something like 3rd or 4th most nominees?

Pretty cool Iowa can have high quality basketball, in probably the most popular state for wrestling. I wonder what participation rate is for Iowa in HS sports compared to others.

Actually, my point was that there was a TON of completely undeserving nominees. IIRC, there were kids nominated that weren't even 1st team all conference. I'm sorry, if a kid in Iowa isn't even 1st team all state for their class, they shouldn't be nominated. Considering a coach, a principal or an AD (from their own HS) can nominate a player...

I could see the top 3 or 4 seniors each year getting nominated, but anything more than that is pretty ridiculous for Iowa.

790 kids were nominated. That's boys and girls. Roughly 390 boys. Carlo Marble was the other Iowa nominee I believe.

I don't know a lot about Kriener, but is it surprising that he was chosen over Pemsl?

Stat Lines
Pemsl: 20.9 points per game, 64.4 field goal %, 60.3 free throw percentage on 58 attempts, 82 rebounds (25 offensive and 57 defensive), 15 assists to 17 turnovers, and 12 blocks.

Kriener: 20.7 points per game, 69.8 field goal %, 63% free throw % on 54 attempts, 95 rebounds (35 offensive and 60 defensive, 17 assists to 17 turnovers, and 17 blocks.

The stats are similar the same with the advantage to Kriener, but Wahlert has played the tougher schedule thus far.

Schedules thus far
Spirit Lake:

Sioux Central, Sioux Rapids W 78-22
Cedar Rapids, Kennedy L 50-59
@Cherokee, Washington W 80-46
Western Christian, Hull L 48-78
@Estherville Lincoln Central W 76-39
@Emmetsburg W 78-39
Bishop Garrigan, Algona W 86-41
@Woodbury Central W 71-53
Spencer W 72-37

Wahlert
@North Scott, Eldridge W 50-47
@Assumption, Davenport W 73-62
@Dowling Catholic, West Des Moines W 48-44
@Dubuque, Hempstead W 59-45
@Prairie, Cedar Rapids L 56-57
Waterloo, West W 66-50
@Central DeWitt W 77-28
Cedar Falls L 63-73

We won't know who's better unless they play against each other, which won't happen unless it's at state. Is Spirit Lake good enough to get there?

Key to whole thread right there.
