If Cade starts next week…

A lot of people don't understand that with Sully the defense has to defend the QB and RB completely different as opposed to having a QB that is even little threat to run a sneak.
Yep.
Anyone who knows football can see the difference. You make that DE make a choice. He knows if he guesses wrong Sullivan burns him for 20 yards. That alone gives our backs just the time they need . It’s actually modern football and KF probably just hates it

And some of those keepers for first downs were huge. Back breakers for Wisconsin.

Huge difference between Kirk wanting to make a change and actually doing it. Cade is done at Iowa. That ship has sailed. Even a blind man can see that.
And KF is a blind idiot on the offensive side of the ball. Don’t be too sure about his ability to totally screw up by selecting CM and I fully expect him to do it for Friday when he trots him out there due to his long time belief no starting qb loses their starting position. He is loyal to a fault. Expect a loss at UCLA all to prove he is in charge and makes the call with the qb selection. It’s baffling and mind numbingly stupid. Can’t wait till he retires.

Seriously? Some of you folks are just over the top bitter and delusional about this QB thing. Kirk ****ed up the QB situation this year. There is no doubt about it. Had Cade not been injured, he'd still be QB1. We all know that too. With all of this said and acknowledged, it is truly out of Kirk's hands at this point. He doesn't operate in a vacuum and forces outside of his control, the administration, the fanbase, and the rest of the team wouldn't stand for it. He's stubborn as ****. He's not completely out of his mind however and understands the ramifications of taking such an action. It would likely end his career. It would be THAT catastrophic.

I don't get it. When he should say something he says nothing. When he should say nothing he says something.

Halftime:
Reporter “How do you feel Brendan Sullivan has settled into this game?”

Kirk “He’s doing a lot good things, made a bad mistake on the out of bounds throw, but a lot of good things but just needs to be a little more patient.

Post game:
Reporter: “the way Brendan Sullivan preformed does that make your decision at who’s going to play qb anymore difficult?”

Kirk: “I’m not even worried about that. He played a great game tonight, ahhh, great job on that last throw down the middle and ahhh, he’s doing a really nice job. We’re looking forward to getting Cade back as well.”

If there is one thing he should have learned by now, it’s to be certain there is someone on the staff that understands the QB position and can make all decisions in relation to.

Man, I can’t envision a scenario where Cade starts next week. You HAVE to ride the hot hand at QB, and that is CLEARLY Sullivan. Kid was OUTSTANDING last night. You simply can’t ignore that kind of offensive explosion and put him back on the bench.

Cade has the perfect excuse to stay on the bench — injury — and they can just blame that. Everyone saves face and the O keeps humming along.

Please. someone explain to me WHY Kirk saying "were looking forward to getting Cade (a team captain and only other QB who has experience) back as well" makes him some kind of villian? So you would rather he say were fine if cade doesn't return at this point since we have our guy now? Ridiculous...

Villain? I did not infer that exactly ( Getting Cade back is better than having a walk on as the next man in) But Kirk is almost embarrassed or it’s like he is cheating on Cade by being genuinely excited or honest about what Sully brings to the table.

Would you care to add up the number of posts on this thread and several others calling Kirk out for saying that "we will welcome him back"? Damn, of course we should welcome him back. At no point did I hear the guy say, "because he'll be starting next week". Now if he throws him in to start Friday night I'll be as pissed as anyone on here. Just don't see we always have to start complaining about stuff that hasn't happened or put words in his mouth he never said.

For context read more then the last sentence of Kirks comment. About who would start next week. "I'm not even worried about that" "He (Sully) played a GREAT game tonight", "GREAT job on that throw down the middle". "he's doing a really nice job". How is he not being honest about what Sully did?

If Cade starts next week. We'll win. With this running attack, we'll be fine.
UCLA playing much better; Cade starts and the team reverts back to weak ass football and we lose this game even if KF finally pulls Cade in game. By then, Sully will be expected to rescue the game but the momentum will have already buried us.

I’d love to give him the benefit of the doubt but I simply can’t.

1) Most telling, his comment about Sullivan’s intentional grounding play. Really?? It actually was a decent decision in reality. Didnt put the ball in harms way and at least attempted to avoid a sack which would have been the same result.

2) He’s gaslit us all by saying Cade gives the best chance to win. It’s simply not true.

3) He’s said at least twice Cade is still working into shape. Why?? You’ve got someone with at least as good of an arm and MILES more mobility.

4) It’s not like Sullivan was a complete unknown, he had a decent track record.

Some of you, which I can understand to a degree, are wondering why someone is pissed off after a big win like this. I’m pissed off because we should be in the position for the playoffs right now and not settling for meaningless trophy games.
You are 💯 correct!

Probably won’t start him but Sullivan will have a way shorter leash than Cade ever would. Slow first half with an interception and he will probably get pulled like the Wisconsin game never happened.

Well, I guess I’m the problem. I didn’t set my expectations low enough for a team that was returning so much.
Where did I say YOU were the problem? This happens every year when we are eliminated for some kind of title. Then all the games are "meaningless". As long as the players keep fighting and doing their best we should be proud of them. As long as they aren't "meaningless" to the players and coaches who have by far the most invested, then they matter in my book. As I'm sure you do, I feel for guys like Higgins who came back instead of going into the draft, and I know they had bigger things in mind. Still I honor his commitment to push on. He and his family look really invested to me, and as long as they are, then I will be right there with them. Thinking every play they have left matters.....

I would hope that at least the posters here understand this concept! Although. Some of the posters defending whatever KF does apparently just don’t.

I fully expect Sully to start and play the whole game, unless he is really bad which I don't expect. He led Iowa to to very convincing W's and looked good doing it.

Total offense average when Cade plays (not counting Troy/Illinois State) 295 yards
Total offense average vs NW and Wisky 389 yards

It's simply too obvious.

KF never gushes over a player. "Nice job" is about the best compliment you get from him in public.

I welcome Cade back too! We need a back up with some experience.

do any of you realize Tim Lester is the one that decides who the quarterback will be ?
Lies No GIF

I am very happy with how the team, particularly the offense, is playing with Sully at QB. It's almost like a light switch was turned on. I just wish Lester would stop trying to be "too cute" at times; it cost us the game against Iowa St, and although this game was not in doubt in the 2nd half, going shotgun at the 1-yard-line is just dumb when you're absolutely dominating with the run game; almost turned it over and then were bailed out by a penalty.

I think I agree with most on here that, if KF truly gives CM his job back over a perfectly healthy Sully at any point the rest of this season, there needs to be a "25th Amendment"-like declaration invoked.

I couldn’t believe the shotgun at the one. I kept screaming “sneak it!”. Fortunately it worked out ok.

I wouldn't even call it defending KF. I just think people attribute the run game to KJ yet don't understand the defense can stack the box and crash in when you have a QB that's a statue. This team ran for 330 yards against Wisconsin. That's incredible. I think with Cade they may have had half that.
