if you haven't seen Sam cook from fort dodge play football you need to check out his hudl highlights. I have no idea why the Hawks haven't offered him a full ride. Iowa wants him too walk on. This young man is a great fullback in the making or another pay angered. See what you think.....

Saw him live v. Indianola Friday night. Great elusiveness but he's on the small side. Doesn't mean he can't get it done, but the reality is he really doesn't have any FBS offers, so I'm not sure Iowa feels any pressure just yet to offer a scholarship.

I don't know anything about him, but one of you says he'd be a good fullback and the other says he's too small, so I'm not sure what's up. But if Iowa is thinking fullback, I can't remember the last one that came to Iowa on scholarship (some earn them later and some switch positions).

He's "listed" at 5'10" and 215. No way he's a fullback. He plays tail back and LB for Fort Dodge. Too short for a FBS LB. After seeing him live, I don't think he's 5'10" or 215 lbs. That isn't dogging the kid, he was amazing to watch. Very talented. If he goes FBS he'll be a tailback somewhere.

I am from Fort Dodge. I agree this kid is a stud, especially on the mat. But FD has yet to play a team with a pulse, other than MAYBE Indianola. I'm excited to see what he can do late in the year against better competition. I would like to see him in black and gold, I think fullback would suit him well.

If his frame could handle another 35-40 LBS I can see it, but it would stink to take the ball out of this kids hands. Reminded me of watching Wegher in high school. Still seems a bit short for full back, but looks like Iowa has other 5'10" fullbacks.

Yeah the biggest knock is that he's on the small side. He's very solid and a load to bring down, and has above average speed if you'd compare him to other fullbacks, but he'd be a smaller, maybe even tougher, version of Mark Weisman.

He's actually gone to several elite football camps, including a big one in Ohio (can't remember the name) and graded very well.

But it's also gonna be interesting to see what he does with his wrestling career because he's one of the best in the state on the mat, as well.

We have two FBs on the roster now that are listed at 5-11, one of whom is Adam Cox at 5-11, 234 pounds. And we all may remember a guy named Tom Busch, who was listed at 5-11 and 235 pounds. Height alone should not stop Sam. However, he'd need to bulk up enough to be able to deliver (and take) a pounding from guys who will mostly be bigger than him.

If I heard right he has already been offered a wrestling scholly by Nebraska but he would rather play football for the Hawks.

He may be a tad under 5'10" but that's closer than 5'9" and he in fact does weigh between 212-215, he will cut down to 195 for wrestling. He ran on FDSH 4x100 relay with 100 m champ Cray Washington that set school record and runs 40 between 4.5 - 4.6. He's got tremendous balance, great vision and is probably the most patient HS back I've seen. To take the ball out of his hands and make him a blocking FB would make no sense. He does not have a wrestling offer from Nebraska but does have offers from Cal Poly and Oklahoma. Coach Cody is supportive of letting him try playing football as well at Oklahoma. Don't think Brands can match the full ride Oklahoma put on the table. Regardless of what he decides to do in the end, he will be successful - also a 3.64 student and academic all- american.

He's also about to run past a couple former Hawks on the Class 4A All-Time rushing list. Needs 13 yards to catch Tim Dwight and 100 yards to catch Tavian Banks! That's some pretty good company!

Tom Busch came in on scholarship. Don't know about anybody since.

As for kids in Ft Dodge. What about asking TJ O'Tool from Ft Dodge St Ed's to talk on? He's put up some decent stats on a team that is lacking talent.

Could only play Fullback here, and still don't think he would cut it. Better off playing at like UNI or somewhere smaller or giving wrestling a go.

D-I full ride wrestling scholarships are there, but not as common as you'd think. Each school has 10 scholarships and typically they divide them up amongst 15-20 kids.

If Cook got one from Oklahoma, he they must really like him.

He has a full ride offer to wrestle at Oklahoma but I think he would prefer to play football.
