Sandfort…

No way Connor should play ahead of Sandfort if you use stats per 40. Connor gets .4 more rb, 1.7 more assists, and 1 more steal. Does this equate to the 15 points more Sandfort scores? I don't think so. I think at 50% scoring per chance, that is maybe 1.5 points a game. Not even close.

The people complaining about Connor have been making the same complaints for 5 years. Complaining about Connor getting time in a blow-out seems too much. I think there's some OCD at work. I also agree with most of the critics this year and would like to see less Connor and more Payton and Kris but the need to attack Connor daily is just stubborn silliness. With only ten or so games to we could give a rest.

There are a lot of ways to be a very good college basketball. Lots of teams make the Sweet 16 without a future NBA player on the roster or in the recent history. Payton's kind of a stocky kid that's converting baby fat to college muscle, so I think he will be plenty strong to hold position against the 6'7"-6'9" players and of course much more easily with guards. He's showing great shot form and a pretty good eye for the basket. Scoring in different ways than just face up shots. Good eye for the court as well.

More ready to play than I thought he would be

Good post and points. It's crunch time and Fran needs to demonstrate that he learned something from last season. Sandfort and Kris are versatile scorers with high b-ball IQ's and are always around the ball. Does Connor do some nice things? Yes. Is one of them scoring? No. Spot duty fine. Extended minutes on the floor with other guys lacking offense like Perkins, Joe and Ulis and you allow the defense to smother the other 3 guys.

Fran needs to be the team that has historically given Iowa problems. Shooters who spread the floor and make it hard for the defense to find them combined with some guys who can drive it off the bounce and get to the rim or kick to an open shooter. Kris and Sandfort are these type of players. Connor and Ulis aren't.

I'd venture to say Fredrick was pain in the ass for Iowa fans...never finished a season healthy.

Sandfort is step up from Fredrick... every bit as good a 3pt shoooter, better FT shooter, bigger for a 2G and
can be 2G/3G hybrid.

Glad Fran ended up giving Sandfort PT to develop his confidence for BTT and Fran even played a HOT sandfort over PMAC who was struggling a bit.

He’s still got some freshman in him, but he was a difference maker today.
