Sandfort Better Than Weiskamp

It's exciting to see PS develop. I really like his quick release! Imagine if Joe W could have mastered the quick shot like that.

Plus, he looks like a baller, not just a shooter. Hoping for great things from him!

I have no idea what they have done with his minutes. Not saying he should be starting but he should be seeing a lot more floor time than he has. He is not going to blow anyone away with this overall athleticism but the kid has a hug BB IQ and adds a little extra size at the 2 that we could use. Reminds me a lot of Gatens in that he has an overall good game.

I like his offensive abilities but for me(can he rebound) is the point for me.
Seems that Keegan and the Rabratcha (SP) are the only decent rebounders.
Kris does pretty well when he plays.

Back to the point about him being a forward not a guard. Fairly quick forwards go around him fairly easily now. Can’t imagine what a guard would do. And yes, I know, they go around the shorter JBo too. PS is definitely a fearless shooter.

Sandfort played 10 min. today. If he played 30 minutes he would have 15 pts, 9 rebounds, and 3 assists. Sounds pretty good to me. Probably not as good as Joe W.
Haha, there have been games where Austin Ash scored 3 points in 1 minute. Had he played 30 minutes, he would have scored 90.

So one of the things about his game that has surprised me is how good his perimeter defense is. He has gotten beat a few times, as most everyone does, but in general he’s done well. In fact he has actually blocked some shots of perimeter players when they were shooting 3s.

So, I wouldn’t say he’s a great defender on the perimeter but, he’s not incompetent and getting beaten regularly either.

No way bro and I am team Sandfort. Joe completely changed a bottom feeder into a tourney team.
Joe DID NOT single handidly change the program, that was mostly Garza and Bohannon. He was extremely lucky to be surrounded by the right talent where they could utilize his strengths, which was purely 3 point shooting and rebounding. Sandfort is already a better ball handler and passer and just as good or maybe better defender. Not as good rebounder. Sandfort has shown the ability to drive some (which Weezey couldn't do until he was a junior) and has better lateral quickness to defend. He is also a very very good passer. His entry pass to feed the post Sunday was textbook. I feel like we haven't seen enough of him to fully appreciate his game, but I love where he is at and I could easily see him being our leading or 2nd leading scorer next year when Keagan is gone. The kid has "it".

Sorry, but thats a stretch. Dude is fearless, and has earned some minutes but to this point , ah NO. Joe W was on the all freshman all BIG, and made all conference teams every year. Joe shot 46% I believe as a senior from three, and learned to get to the rack as well. Still its his SEVEN boards a game we really miss this year from a wing player. PS may end up being a very good player, and he certainly knows the game, but he's not better then JW as a freshman
Sandfort won’t make the All BIG Freshman team sitting on the bench which Joe W. didn’t.

I don't disagree, but that wasn't the comment I responded too. Just think there's no basis to say he's better as a freshman then Joe W was. He's certainly not afraid to come in and inject himself in the game, and put up shots, and get after it. I'd also agree he should get another 5-6 minutes minimum and I think he produce more consistently....

As a freshman. Not as athletic, but better all round shooter. I'm calling it now, I’ve seen enough, the kid should be starting at the 2. He’s an excellent passer, safe ball handler and the most confident/smooth shooter we’ve had since Peter Jok, who thought every shot was going in. And he plays solid defense. Just a smart confident all round player.

A case could be made that Sandfort should be the starting #2, to suggest that Sandfort is better than Joe W. is one of the worst takes ever. Wow...

No way

I’m taking notes and writing down names. 😉 I’m confident I will be vindicated when he gets more playing time. Alas, that probably won’t occur until next year. Keagan Murray redux.

If Keegan, Jordan and Connor leave Peyton will be the 6th man. My thoughts are a guy that becomes a big scorer. He's got nice post-up game and is probably going to be a really great outside threat. That quicker 6'4" guy Peyton guards if he's the "2" still has to guard the 6'7" guy on the other end. A heavy dose of Peyton might lead to his 4* little brother giving us 4 years of good ball.

Edit. Joe W arrived on a team that didn't have anyone to play the position he was playing. He was also well into the top 100 players. Peyton has arrived on a team that has both Murrays and Patrick ahead of him and, for whatever reason, a couple of other heavy minute players that have seen better days.

Weezy could have gone pro after his freshman season. I like Payton, but he’s not even close to the same level Joe was at as a freshman.
He would have not made it in the G League had he left after his freshman year. Joe was a nice player. However, the NBA is going to be a struggle for him. Really hope he can carve out a niche and collect that pension. Uthoff at 6’9” has much more rounded game and look at his NBA career.

I'd have him 6th man but wouldn't be mad if he started.

To me, the starting lineup is:
Joe T
Kris
PMac
Keegan
Rebraca

But I wouldn't be mad about Sandfort in place of Rebraca if you don't need the bigger body or in place of Kris.
Sure guards are overrated.
