Saturday Basketball

ISU is most assuredly a Top 10 team. They beat #1 and #4 in the last week. What do you want out of a team? Oh and they beat Iowa who is a Top 5 team.
There aren't any really outstanding teams this year. ISU is 3-2 against the teams currently rated in the top 5; both losses were on the road, one in the final 6 seconds and the other (today) ISU led much of the way and was leading with a little over 3 minutes to play.

What's happening is that top five, or even top ten, doesn't mean what it has usually meant in the past. Teams are getting into that rarified territory by default because everybody is losing.

I only watched some of the 2nd half and almost none of 1st half....but from what I saw of the ISU KU game...KU wasn't playing anything like a "top 5 team". Kansas and Iowa basically gave them the games...I wouldn't say they earned. But they did win...

Now I'm not trying to be a "husker" and say ISU got lucky and we or (ku) "should have won", because when you collapse like that you don't deserve to win. Just that beating a team that has an off day isn't super special. Uni beat ISU and UNC....I wouldn't call them a top 10 team ;).
Also as mentioned, I'd like to see them win a decent game away from ames first. (wait, no I wouldn't)

I'm interested to see what the media says if UK beats KU....
Does Sec become the "best conference in the country"? lol

Who have you seen this year that DOES look like a sure fire top ten team? I haven't seen any and I watch as much basketball as my wife will let me. The most impressive performance I've seen was from Arizona but that was really early. It's wide open this year.

No one standout team to me..but there are about 12-15 good teams that could contend for the NC this year.

ISU has a history in the big 8/12 of not winning on the road, so nothing new here.

Iowa state played well yesterday I thought. It was a battle and both teams played hard. I think Niang foul trouble was the issue down the stretch and also I think you saw Fatigue set in for the Clones. I will say this if Burton can get going, I think he will be a major lift for them moving forward.

ISU has to win on the road. I like the home wins, but other Big 12 teams are showing they are able to win on the road, ISU has to follow suit. If they can get 1-2 wins on the road and win out at home, they will be a top 4 NCAA seed easy. If they keep losing on the road and only win at home I could see their seed dropping to a 5 or 6. They have some tricky games left on the road @TT, @KU, @Baylor, and @WVU. Hopefully they can get at leas 2 of those.

I don't really disagree, but there's a difference between not winning on the road and not upsetting favorites on the road. Not many teams are going to win at the four places you cited. What's crucial to winning the title is protecting the home court, and ISU hasn't done that.

I realize it stated the top in the Big 12, but ISU should win @ TT and @OSU I hope. Can't afford to drop one of those two, that would be a bad loss. I just always hear in terms of the RPI every March that "road wins" are key. You hear the committee always talk about the "road wins" and non conf as being keys to seeding. ISU needs to get some road wins down the stretch.

Protecting home court is good and yes ISU has done that. They have some quality wins @ home, need to get a few on the road.
