Does anybody have a feel for what weight ESPN will start at Saturday night? I know they try and make things dramatic but you got two guys most likely wrestling to become four timers. I’m hoping they start at 133 but could see 157.

I see it starting at 133, Spencer with the potential of becoming Iowa’s yes Iowa’s first timer at such a storied program…with bonus points coming from the clip of saying excuses are for wusses after winning number 3 with no acl’s.

I wonder if they consider shuffling the weights around enough to have 141-125 be the last two.

I think, barring anything like that, they will start with 133 and end with Spencer. Start with potential 3 timer followed by potential 4 timer, then end with potential 4 timer

Lee vs Glory should be the runaway favorite for the finale. You see, people outside of wrestling actually know who Spencer Lee is. He's a Sullivan Award winner and 2X Hodge winner. Going up against undefeated Glory in the finals is a showstopper.

Yianni is 149.

Hahahaha that he is. I'm an idiot.

I still think they start at 133 to have Yianni fairly early and end with Spencer. But maybe (not at all likely) they switch the weight order around to end with 149-125 to feature them both back to back
Haha! I don’t see why they couldn’t. It would make it more entertaining.

Don't kid yourself. Nobody outside of wrestling knows about or cares about college wrestling.

Why? Depending on the matchups it could make Lee the sixth four timer vs the 5th. It might seem to be a technicality, but I'd want to be the next guy to get it even if it meant it was only because I was a lighter weight .

Ain't that the truth, I live in Pennsylvania, and I'm a PSU alum and fan. I know almost no one who watches wrestling. I have one person I know face to face I might chat with.
Iowa Vs PSU was the biggest wrestling match viewership wise for the big ten with like 300 thousand plus viewers .

Have they switched the weight order like that before?
I can see staring at 133 with Rby vs Fix as an appetizer, then Woods winning, 149 Yanni, 157…, then main course 165, 184 can be great, hwt will likely have big names and then dessert is Lee going for 4.

He has said it before. Didn’t like being the last match in STL.
I wonder, does the tournament committee ask the athletes/coaches on their opinion on this? if they do, what happens when there is a split vote? Is this all decided before Thursday or wait til Fri night after semis to make the call for obvious reason.

A short story to back up that no one watches wrestling: A month or so ago, one of my buddies started telling me about some crazy new freshman wrestling for Iowa. “He’s gonna be pretty good someday,” my buddy said. Turns out, he had seen a highlight clip on YouTube of Spencer vs Tomasello his freshman year…

I’m guessing there is a 0.0001% chance they give a rip about athlete/coach preference. It’s all about tv viewers. They want the best opening/closing combo they can get.

Unless hvy has an impact on the team race, which it probably won’t, I’m guessing they start with RBY/Fix (Penn state viewers and the local crowd) and end with Spencer.

I almost got into a fight with a guy at the bar with his finals were on. It was some years ago and I think it might've been Penn State and Oklahoma State in the mix. I asked the bartender to change one of the TVs to show the wrestling match, and this other guy was upset that at one point I wasn't watching it even old wrestling with God.
I had explain I was a state fan and currently at the time they were no matches on Penn State was involved with or any matches affected Penn State. Then I explain to her about how the guys are going for individual titles in this round however, there's a team title at stake. He was cool after a little bit more talking about me up here we just couldn't understand why I wasn't watching the match at that moment.Lol.

If they wanna do the starting at different weights to get the marquee matchup at the end, I'm all for it. But, they should do it with all the weights. Spencer should finish the night, but let's put Daton and RBY 3rd to last, yianni 2nd to last etc. no reason we have to go in order for the finals.
