School book in public school. This is unacceptable.

I have no idea how that's actually presented in the book and neither do you. I'm not defending the book because I haven't read it...and neither have you. My response was directed at a general statement you made.
Ok, let's go with your logic, is there any reason for a non parent to talk to prepubecent youth about sex?

LOL...of course there is. That you think they should be kept in the dark until they're fertile is idiotic.

Similarly, the fact that you think their parents aren’t the primary persons responsible for their introduction to the subject is equally (if not more) idiotic.

This book was in a HIGH SCHOOL
It was also in a MIDDLE SCHOOL.

"The book in question, “Let’s Talk About It,” is currently available through school libraries at Bartlett High School and Romig Middle School."

So yes, 12 year Olds have access to the proper way to search porn and send dick pics.

And that wasn't what we were discussing.

For DECADES there has been in most states a regular curriculum taught in 6/7 grade science the reproductive facts and anatomy of the human body with both sets of plumbing involved. No big deal.

Was transsexual or dysmorphic or sexual orientation part of it? No it was not. It was an anatomical/function/reproduction presentation.
Is there a place for it? I wouldn’t oppose a high school course as part of a psychology or sociology elective on a junior or senior grade level. In fact it could be helpful to those adolescents who have been struggling with their identity, and also helping classmates who struggle to understand why their fellow students or friends are born with a sexual identity different than their own.

I agree with you there. I don't think there is some sort of left wing groomer agenda.

And in high school libraries where sex is a minor part of the story or books which give factual information on sex and contraceptives I think that is fine.

What I don't think is fine is books which give teens moral advice on sex related topics. Especially when it advises teens to do something that they are not legally even suppose to be doing. Legally speaking you arn't suppose to be accessing porn until you are 18, however for some reason we have decided to not actually put in place any system to control or prevent under-aged access. I actually think what Louisiana did was a good first step.

I think your description of books not giving advice on sex related topics is overly broad; one could argue most romance books do so, a fair number of YA fiction books touch on it, heck quite a bit of “classical literature” is more explicit than most people realize.

It was also in a MIDDLE SCHOOL.

Going to assume however that the school library would have blocks in place to prevent searching for porn. This isn’t grooming or anything of the sort unless they can say it was required in a class.

You’re trying to draw some weird age line to justify this book not being allowed in a school library. Puberty doesn’t start at the same age for everyone so that’s a silly objection.
Let's just cut right to it"

Are you ok with 12-13 year Olds having access, in school, to a book that teaches them best ways to search for porn and best ways to.pose while sending provocative photos of themselves?

That's a minor, you understand that right? You think a 13 year old really understands the concept that things like that don't really go away?

I grew up in a conservative Iowa town in the 80's and they started sex ed at 11-12 when most of us hadn't hit puberty yet and it was a non issue so stop with your "the left" bullshit.

If you wait til puberty when kids start f*cking it's too damn late, we had very little teen pregnancy in our town. I know you're proud of being right wing white trash and put that on display here daily but your ridiculous bullshit just gets old. Dumbasses like you are why Iowa sucks so bad anymore.

I think what’s equally silly is saying that a class of 25 kids might have two girls who are starting to develop and one boy who has begun having wet dreams justifies the book for the other 22.
Why does this book belong in school? PERIOD?

You ok with a 12-13 year old having access in school to books that teach them how to take nude photos of themselves or search for porn?

Go on the record right now.

Thanks for that. Just to be clear, you have issues with this being in a middle school only or a high school too?
Middle School for sure. If there were a book that talked about the horrors of sending nudes and how the internet doesn't forget for a high school age group I could wrap my head around that.

If that’s the primary purpose of the book, obviously not.

Having never heard of this book before, I’m guessing we’re both missing a ton of context here.

Well when you say the book teaches you how to send them (nudes) may be a stretch. One could assume a murder mystery may teach someone to murder or become a serial killer with a biography of Mason.

Sex education is a standardized class that takes place during the years a child is going through puberty. Try again
Ummm...no. I said it should begin earlier so I won't "try again". The US has the absolute unhealthiest attitudes about our bodies and sex in the western world because we allow everything to be sexualized for young kids and DON'T teach them the facts. I'll point you to child beauty pageants as one example. YOU think them learning it from their friends and older kids is better (or you labor under the idiotic delusion that they learn nothing prior to puberty). I disagree but feel free to defend your take...whichever one it is.

Who said anything about friends? I've specifically said parents.
