Schwab heading to OU?

You are wrong here. I am a Schwab fan.

Illinois isn’t a premium school.
Woah. Maybe it hasn't performed well over the past 5 years but it is a Big Ten school with pockets and facilities. Are you telling me it isn't a Top Ten team over the past decade?

They definitely aren’t. 12th in NCAA finish wise over the last decade. One conference title in 70 years. Very little tradition.

We are definitely going to disagree. Under Heffernan they were a very competitive team. If you are expecting an Iowa, PSU or Okie State history no other school is going to have that. Edit: I will add ISU.

Champaign evidently sucks for lack of a better description. Maybe that factored into it.

We’re not talking about just being “competitive.” That’s a huge move of the goalpost. Premium is the subject at hand. Your standards are incredibly low if you think Illinois is a premium wrestling school.

Penn State, Iowa, Ohio State, Michigan, Minnesota, Cornell, Missouri, Ok state, NC State, Virginia tech, Arizona State. Northwestern, Nebraska. When do you want me to stop? They definitely aren't top 10 last decade

Champaign is an absolute crap hole. I have had the unfortunate experience of visiting 5 times.

Exactly. Beyond that distinction - the best Illinois kids (chicago) don't even grow up liking Illinois. Even now, Poeta can't recruit the state. And this is a Chicago kid who went to Illinois. And they have a ridiculous staff. Until Poeta/Illinois can recruit in-state, they are hamstrung as far as being a "premium" school.

And I think you're thinking of the Mark Johnson-led Illinois teams. Heffernan was always just meh. Surprised Illinois kept him as long as they did.

Whatever. You do you.

Okay. I am not arguing that. Schwab was offered the Illinois job and turned it down. He is happy (for the moment) at UNI. Is there something wrong with that? He is happy in the north Iowa area. I am not sure what point you are trying to make.
That is exactly what I said - He is happy in Cedar Falls. I simply made a statement that most D1 coaches would choose Illinios over UNI if give the opportunity. Schwab did not and I am sure he has good reason for staying. Most would not have.

I'm surprised Morningstar hasn't entered the convo for OU. If the Cesspool could force him over there then we could finally go after Dake, Taylor, Burroughs, Snyder, or Cox.

Seems to me like an exciting talking point is being missed considering this was the hot button topic 2 weeks ago...

M* has been a big part of Iowa winning and some big recruiting classes. You can’t buy loyalty or fit e.g Mark Perry… and I’ll add, M* comes with second to none qualifications when it comes to ethics and values.

I’d recommend adding to M*’s legacy by supporting him with the above mentioned names. Not knowing much about the inner workings of HWC I hope that their funding can help.

In what world do Burroughs or Taylor take that position? Taylor has his own successful business (it appears) and Burroughs just left the midwest plus I believe he's eluded to having his sights set on bigger (different) things than coaching.

The only name you listed that is conceivable to me would be J'Den, but I doubt any would be available.

It was sarcasm in reference to everyone wanting/wishing/hoping that Morningstar would get offered another job so it could free up our staff for someone "better"

Koll using the OU job for leverage with Stanford. He’s not leaving. Just trying to get the admin to loosen up a little on the admission process. Lost out on the Harvard HWT because he was denied into Stanfords grad school. Also was told Vito couldn’t get in or he would have transferred.

Well if that strategy works, consider me shocked. Loosen admissions standards so a non-revenue generating sport (I assume) can get a couple wrestlers?? Hope OU didn't pay his travel for an interview.

He was born in the burbs and went to Highland Park High School. That is hardly Chicago.

Does the El make it out there? If so….

Pretty sure you know what I mean. The Chicago burbs are where all the best wrestling is. And he can't get any of those kids despite being from the same area.

I do - but being a kid from the suburbs, especially the North Shore, is completely different than being a "Chicago" kid. Not even remotely the same.

I know Mike and the Poeta family. He actually has family that are Iowa alum. I think he will do really well in Champaign and he has plenty of inroads within the Chicago wrestling community.

LOL. Fair enough. What's funny is Chicago 'burb kids won't claim to be "from" Chicago." But when it comes to the Bulls, White Sox or Bears it's - "Hey! i'm FROM Chicago!"

A good buddy of mine is from the burbs of Chicago. I rag on him all the time that he won't claim the city - only when it comes to professional sports. Maybe you can answer this for me. Most 'burb kids are not fans of UofIll. How is that possible?

Didn't you watch Risky Business? It's actually quite hard to get into Illinois these days. That could be the reason? For the most part, burb kids will always say they are from Chicago. If you are out of state and asked it is easier to say that than "I'm from Naperville." But as far as your buddy, right now Chicago is a sh$t hole. Don't blame him at all for that stance.

I actually had a professor at Iowa ask where everyone was from. A bunch said - Chicago. He said you're lying and you're all from the suburbs - and he was correct. I am from Iowa, but live in Illinois. That's how I handle it.

everything has gone quiet on OU news. it's weird. none of the assumed candidates have gotten a call yet (and i've talked to all of them).

i thought it so weird that i text koll and said 'you didn't turn it down, did you?'

but he called and told me he did.

as far as M*, i love the guy and think he's way under-appreciated. i think he'd be a good HC at the right program. but y'all should be thankful you have him. that's my .02 anyway

Willie, are you still looking for a recruiting coordinator role? I've been lobbying hard for one. If I had Fellers coin I'd donate to Iowa under the requirement that it was used for one.

not really looking for one. things are going well w/ matscouts. i have a lot of freedom and i enjoy it. that being said, if the right program/situation came up i would consider it for sure.

edit to say:
i'm a pretty competitive person. as much as i play the 'brain' card, the true test would be to build a roster and win. it would be an incredible opportunity to challenge myself that way.

What would you say the salary range is for the OSU and tOSU positions be?

honestly don't know. if i had to guess i'd say in the $70k range, which is about what i was offered at UNC.

to be clear it wouldn't make one bit of sense, financially, for me to do it. but the chance/challenge to help win probably supersedes that for me in the right place.

I have a feeling “challenging“ yourself is relatively easy in your case
