Scratch Grand Teton off your summer list

If there's enough tourist demand to lure an outside company to run things, I guarantee that it will be a better deal for the American taxpayer.
And, just like Iowa's "privatized Medicare" providers mess, I can guarantee you it won't.

Iowa is paying WAY more for those services, and the providers withhold the services so they can get their 10-15% profit (which the state run system NEVER had to cover)

I predict i will still be able to go to and enjoy grand tetons this summer. A huge number of those jobs can be replaced by technology imo

Less expensive and more efficient. Less fraud, graft and waste.
i definitely want all of the points you made but the national parks i've been to at least have provided terrific experiences at moderate and affordable costs. i would not want to experiment by putting it entirely in hands of the private sector. take a look at the prices and facilities let's say at grand canyon south rim and hypothetically project what we can expect by changing things drastically. disneyworld has its place and i love it but national parks need to be left alone.

I'm not saying federal Park Rangers would cease to exist. They have their place. But collecting admissions fees isn't one of them. That should not be a federal government employee job.
We will still pay the same taxes

Comparing a park to medical care is a laughable comparison.

We're going to have to pay a lot more in taxes if we don't get spending under control.

Really, let's talk about this... WHY is the government basically running tourist attractions? We rightfully preserved these wonderful places, and then we have government employees doing educational talks, guiding people on hikes, collecting money for admissions or parking, working in concessions or gift shops...

NONE OF THOSE JOBS SHOULD BE FEDERAL JOBS. They should be outsourced to private industry.

Park Rangers should only be doing things involving preservation of the land, not running the snack bar.
It is really hard to fix stupid. Private industry costs way more, visitors will pay way more, it is a Nat Park or Forest so there should be Fed workers, not someone from Halliburton or some company that is giving kickbacks to the Dumpster

It's almost like you know nothing about the way National Parks currently operate.

16 of the 17 training supervisors have been fire.

We've already scrapped our trip for the summer. We were planning on going to Glacier but there is just too much money involved and too much uncertainty to if the parks will be open and/or safe to try and pull this off. We will be doing something else.

But it's federal spending even if it goes to a private company. (minus what the park brings back in self-supporting revenue)

Look at how airports are run. Is there a cafeteria run by the airport authority?

No. They don't know anything about serving food.

Instead, they charge an insane amount for rent and private companies fall all over themselves trying to win that coveted space at Gate 77-120....
Basic Park services will be cheaper if we leave it to the Feds. The above poster isn’t wrong. For profit companies aren’t going to do it for less.

There are two sides to the "do it for less" analysis. How much does it/will it cost park guests? And how much will it/does it cost the taxpayer?

I would guess that guests will pay more, and the taxpayer will pay less. And I'm greatly in favor of that. Those who use the national parks should foot the majority of the bill.

It's a mountain. People can explore it whether there's a gift shop or not.

The weird thing about it is…I’m kind of on your side in some ways. One of the worst things about the parks nowadays are the fat, smoker lunged, out of shape, never leave the car pieces of shit clogging things up. While I loathe the loss of NPS staff and what they bring to the public, if it means keeping the undeserving trash out of the park maybe it’s a nice side effect.

Look at how ****ing expensive it is

I’m curious how a person thinks the park itself is going to create enough of a profit to incentivize a private entity to take over.

The parks themselves don’t turn any profit. All the money made is by surrounding communities. Food, lodging, entertainment.

I fear what private companies would have to do to spark to turn a profit directly off of it.

Just googled “Grand Tetons National Park to close down”. Not coming up with anything other than seasonal closures for certain areas of the park. OP appears to be full of shit.

I went off to dinner, came home and found out Trad has done his usual confident stupidity in my thread.

If he had ever been in a park he would know that the worst services you experience in a park are all the private contractors. Yosemite’s historic Ahwahnee lodge is falling apart under private management. Everything is done on the cheap and costs 3 times too much.

Years back Booz Allen took over the federal camping website. Prices tripled, service stayed the same or worse….and the govt gets NONE of the money collected thru the site.

Last time Trump was in office parks were shut down and the public was left unsupervised. The damages are still being repaired today.
