Season Ended against ISU. OSU game was Inevitable.

When he called for the fake punt, Kirk seemingly pushed his entire meager stack into the "Pass Line"....but of course, a half-second before the shooter was handed the dice, he sheepishly grabbed it all back, cashed out, and ran off to take Mary to see Wayne Newton: Up Close and Personal at the Flamingo.
He probably plays $1/$2 Limit Hold Em too. Anything else is too risky.

“Playoff or nothing valuable left” is a loser mentality.
Not in a year where that was a legit expectation.

No one is saying it still wouldn’t be enjoyable to run the table and finish with a nice bowl win, but that’s not gonna happen, so we are all just bracing ourselves to see how bad it gets from here. 9 wins? …8? …7?

Meanwhile, the team who “ended” our season very well could go on to make the playoffs. Our in-state rival and “lil brother”…double whammy.

This is the reality tho, Sir.

The playoffs are now part of college football. With 12 team slots, the minimum goal for all major programs worth a damn is to be a part of this playoff scenario.

Nothing else matters now, like it or not 🤷🏼‍♂️

It's a mentality of someone who has never played a competitive minute in their life, but knows everything from a barstool.
Were you a divison one scholarship athlete?!? Didn’t think so. I definitely was. Competing for conference and national titles was all that mattered. You sound like someone pushing to bring back the Big Ten West so we can have that division title and get boatraced by a blue blood in the title game!

So, when those didn't happen you just quit?

A coaches dream.

It’s called the NCAA tournament. So yes, we always made it. And conferences titles happened but never a national title. And the equivalent of that for football has always been out of reach for Iowa. It wasn’t this year but it now is. So, yes the season is over. But it ended against ISU and not OSU.

That made me almost lose my coffee! Best analogy thus far for the 2024 season.

How much money does a play off spot cost?
Do you think the Vanderbilt players that just toppled #1 are bought and highly paid?

Somehow they showed up and beat ALABAMA. We can hardly put points on the board vs top 25 teams.

We have a “We’re little ol Iowa and therefore inferior” culture problem, which Kirk has now established.

I don't think the ISU loss will be the reason we aren't making the playoffs. They still have to run the table to get to a point where the ISU loss was the deciding factor. I agree losing to OSU was a 95% probabilty. The last time Iowa won in Columbus in 1990.

Uhhhh… yea. When we lost in the tournament our season was definitely over. They don’t teach that type of intellect from people Mark!
Ok. You said “Competing for conference and national titles was all that mattered”.

Once you were no longer in the conference title race, did you quit?

So once we won the conference title but before the ncaa tourney did we quit? Is that what you are asking?!? So by this logic after Alabama wins the SEC most years they should quit before the college football playoffs?!? That’s brilliant.

No. I’m asking once you were out of the conference title race, did you quit? (Maybe you were never out of it?).

NIL has predictably become the newest excuse for the “super fans.”

"Iowa is not sexy".

Iowa is going to HAVE to be sexy to knock off teams like tOSU.

Not one prodnosticator thought Iowa would make the top 12 team playoff. OSU, Oregon, Michigan and PSU were the odds on favorites. USC they felt had an outside chance. Then Iowa and Nebraska. Now indiana has a shot but really hasn't plaued anybody. I predicted 9-3 to start the year and would be happy with that. Washington is better than expected and Nebraska is improved. Maryland will be hard to beat on the road. I thought, OSU, Minny and Maryland would be our three losses. We'll have to wait and see.

What fan base wouldn't want to be able to have their team go into the portal and pick the best qb from the previous year, pay him $937,000 and declare him as your #2. Later in August he's playing well enough in camp to be #1.

Somehow he thought "we aren't sexy" was some kind of selling point to 17-21 year olds when Iowa could be whatever he demanded in his 26 years. I will give him credit for admitting he's not very smart to media many times over the years, at least he was honest there. The fact he keeps choosing immobile qb's is just one example of that.

He could have adapted to a changing game many times but he can't get over his ego and would rather be a content fat cat who keeps insisting his way is the only way. Stubbornness and arrogance personified

Bingo. There may not be a more symbolic Kirk move than panicking on that play. Poster worthy.
