Senate Democrats just blocked the Laken Riley act

I don’t generally like the heart strings named laws and acts to just be pushed through. Maybe we need to read this one and not just push it through for the name.

Couple questions
1. Is anyone in the country illegal if they do not have papers, or are we separating out the asylum seekers?
2. As to the forum, are you saying, Liberal on immigration, those who identify as liberal, or any person who votes Democrat greater than 50% of the time who posts on this forum?

Clarity on who would be shot is significant in how I would respond.
I can’t go democrat over 50% of the time, otherwise I’d be targeted. I’ll stand down for now to think it over. ;)

Scrubs What GIF
Very good response. :)

Exactly. They’re always named such that anyone who votes against it automatically gets shamed. But what’s actually in the bill?

How do we change this, another amendment?

Well, as other mentioned, it is ingrained in the fabric of our country. So you really can't. As the New Colossus reads “Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses yearning to breathe free, the wretched refuse of your teeming shore. Send these, the homeless, tempest-tossed to me, I lift my lamp beside the golden door!”

But, why would you want to just deport violent criminals anyways? Release to return and potentially commit more crimes? Silly. Convict them, incarcerate them, then deport. Heck, might be cheaper to work a deal with some of the southern countries to have them set up prisons and deport for incarceration in their origin countries. Pennies on the dollar I'd bet.

Now certainly you could create an amendment that would likely never pass, but if it specifically targeted rights that SHOULD be vs SHOULDN"T be given to illegal residents, that would make sense vs a "the constitution only applies to citizens" approach.

Regardless, immigration policies that don't work is the problem.

She's a joke and a lot of our whys
If you want to see a joke, look in the mirror. You couldn’t get a visa to visit any Country, let alone citizenship with your record. You have zero self-awareness. Sad no one gets you the help you need. Shame on the posters here that only engage you to witness a train wreck.

Always crickets when the 3xer has to face the music.

Dems want a trial first while repubs want to act as judge and jury first and then ship them out like livestock.
It was a comparison of statements.

There was a whole lot more said (and done) about the death of that individual in Minnesota a few years ago before any trial.

Oh, I thought they were human beings, and by the way, if they are here, they have rights. That must be really hard to understand.
maybe they have rights in whatever shithole they came from. In America they have the right to sit in a jail cell until we ship their illegal ass home.

Why do they want to deport illegal immigrants who commit violent crimes? That increases the risk of them simply crossing back into the United States and committing another violent crime. Put them on trial and if convicted make them serve their sentence here so we know justice is being served.
These are not the...ummm...smartest...people you'll ever talk to. They voted for Trump, after all. At least some of them twice.

I don’t know what this act is about but am starting to believe the immigration/border fiasco is going to cost Biden the election.
This is the first part. Totally serious bill here.

This Act may be cited as the “Laken Riley Act”.

SEC. 2. FINDINGS; SENSE OF CONGRESS.

(a) Findings.—Congress finds that the Nation—

(1) mourns the devastating loss of Laken Riley and other victims of the Biden administration’s open borders policies;

(2) honors the life and memory of Laken Riley and other victims of the Biden administration’s open borders policies; and

(3) denounces the open-borders policies of President Joe Biden, “Border Czar” Vice President Kamala Harris, Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas, and other Biden administration officials.

(b) Sense Of Congress.—It is the sense of Congress that—

(1) the Biden administration should not have released Laken Riley’s alleged murderer into the United States;

(2) the Biden administration should have arrested and detained Laken Riley’s alleged murderer after he was charged with crimes in New York, New York, and Athens, Georgia...

Yeah, that’s pretty silly.

Laugh if you’d like. Dems seem to think the voters are on their side and will blame the GOP. I’m not so sure about that. People are fed up.
Which people? How - exactly - has this "issue" affected you? It's the only thing the GOP has so they're going to beat it to death until the elections. Interestingly, when there was a bipartisan fix on the table that gave them much of what they were demanding, they turned against it - even the jackasses WHO HELPED DRAFT IT - because Trump told them to. You want to fix the border? Take the GOP out of the equation. Period.

Sometimes this is true... In the end it's tribalism, and Dems are as hypocritical as anyone else. Don't believe me? See Michael Brown...anyone who killed a BLM protester, anyone who was in the vicinity of the capital Jan 6...

It's just tribalism.

Just another example of a bill written to NOT pass so the party who wrote it can get their headline.

Just like Biden's "Border security" bill.

"Hey guys since we're useless anyway...let's ban Tiktok then go get drinks"

I think that's a disingenuous comparison, but I agree with the larger point.

Agreed. The lesser of two evils it seems is to try, convict and incarcerate them here, despite the costs.

LOL...the "border bill" was written by a bipartisan group of senators and contained much of what the GOP was demanding. It was tanked because Trump told them to. Even the spineless GOP senators who drafted the bill bailed when their cult leader objected to it.

Why would anyone want to be a liberal and have to try and justify what their party stands for. One doesn't have to have the vision of an eagle to see the only thing that matters to the dems is remaining in power. Allowing illegals to flood our country while killing Americans, no problem. Dismantling all forms of election security, no problem. Letting criminals back out onto the street without bail to kill and harm again, no problem.

Does any honest person actually believe these things make America better?

If you view it with blue or red glasses then only the other side does it and comparisons that expose your own side will be disingenuous. Reality is both do it, and the border security bill was done for the sole purpose of being able to say "we tried to fix the border and Republicans blocked it," ignoring the many reasons why it was blocked. Nothing different here. The message is "Dems would rather protect an illegal immigrant murderer than get justice for American citizens," completely overlooking the poisonous language in the bill.

Except the republicans were involved in making the border security bill, right? Nonpartisan? Did this bill have democrat input?

Like I said, I agree with your overall point. I just think the specific bill you pointed to as a comparison isn't a great example.

This is the case on ALL issues we are facing. Take the GOP out and we can start compromising again and get some shit done.
