Bring manufacturing back to the U.S.? Whiskey says “Nike is coming home”

I get targeting certain industries or categories of products, but otherwise this is ridiculous. We don’t need to be making 90% of the widgets and trinkets and all the other cheap goods lining the shelves at Walmart and every other retailer.
Nor do I sense anyone wants to pay more for these goods.

Is it to raise revenue? Isn’t that just a massive wealth transfer from consumers to corporations? And then to the ultra rich to help pay for tax cuts?
Again, how do we not pay much more for goods if the tariffs stay in place?

What’s the plan? What am I missing.

We are not going to make all the widgets but "nike" as an example now has to decide on where it's going to get it's "cotton" which we do make.

Caterpillar is the ine I would think would bring everybody back on shore ASAP. You could convince me we are not going to make t shirts here but "apple" and "cat" and several of these other "american" companies will manufacture more here.

His goal is simple, Make america great again.

Tank the US dollar (Trump always complains about how strong it is). Tank the US stock market (Trump has millions tied up in memecoins and other crypto now). Tank the government (privatize all of it in favor of his Mar-A-Lago buddies).

F me…hadn’t thought about this angle.

Long term, I tariff's could have a positive economic impact by driving billions in additional import revenue and slowly pushing more onshoring of manufacturing.

However, it's going to cause major short-term pains for every single American as nearly all products purchased will have some type of price impact.

What's worse is that the US economy was already nearing a possible major recession and consumer confidence was at 12 year low. Talk about bad timing!

By promoting the return of domestic manufacturing in key areas of the economy,.. Steel, auto, semi-conductors, pharma etc,.. Manufacturing jobs were the foundation of the US middle class and they can be again...
Yea. Let’s see all these 20 to 40 year olds hell bent on working remote jobs, lining up to take on these supposed manufacturing jobs. It’s so dumb and idiotic, it might be brilliant.

Trump's goal is to become dictator of the U.S.

He wants to punish other countries so they come back to him and beg for help.

Trump does not care about anything or anyone but himself. He's a malignant narcissist.

That's according to people who know him best like Mary Trump, Michael Cohen and Tony Schwartz.

Those jobs he’d want to bring back would mostly be done by robotics. Sorry 1980 isn’t coming back. The cotton gin, put a lot of people out of work as well.

Absolutely correct,.. But there are also a lot of high paying jobs supporting that level of manufacturing...

He doesn’t get to claim semiconductor chip manufacturing, the old guy beat him to it. But then he cancelled it because he’s an egotistical lil bitch. Wake me up when the rest happens. I think it’s going to be a very long nap.

I've been having discussions on this as well OP.

Power. maybe.
Fame? I could see this, he is egomaniacal for this.
Money? It's a driving factor for him.
State's rights? he doesn't care.
Crazy old man who is being manipulated? maybe
Improve the US? He doesn't care about others
