SF OB Kaepernick

It amazes me what people get outraged at and what people choose to ignore.

Why do you care so much? The OP took offense, but hardly "ignored" anything. Nor did the OP say Kaepernick didn't have the right to do what he did(n't) do.

What rankles some people is the idea that someone getting a guaranteed $61 million chooses to do this NOW, when he's had a whole career to do it, then acts like he's the victim.

Well, in fairness, what constitutes poverty in this country is living like royalty in other parts of the world.

But, I get what you're saying. The whole system is corrupt and being controlled by the top 1-3% in this country--the establishment. The same establishment that both Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump are a part of.

Ironic, isn't it? That many people were choosing candidates this year on the basis of who aren't part of the establishment. Call me crazy, but I think they got it wrong.

But that's just me.
Could not agree more, people are up in arms for a QB not standing to an anthem....but continue with their day as if nothing happens when corruption, violence, and other atrocities occur on a daily basis. We have extreme political curruption and extreme inequities in wealth distribution. Veterans are upset about this (I understand why) but not upset about rich politicians and policy makers placing are troops in harms way each and every day. I 100% support our troops, but I do not support the cause in which they are fighting for. This country was established so that we had checks and balances, yet we have been in and out of "wars" since the 1950's but yet have not declared war since WWII? If you want to get pissed about something, get pissed about something that actually matters, something deeper than surface level BS you will see on TV/Media. That same media that is controlled by the same people who control about everything else that goes on in this world

I am not speaking to the OP, he is entitled to his opinion and I respect that. I would quote him if I were speaking directly to him. Maybe you are the one looking at it the wrong way? Maybe CK isn't speaking for himself, maybe he is speaking for the young man in inner-city Chicago or the little girl in the projects in NY. Maybe just maybe, he is using his platform to speak out in something he believes in. Ali did many controversal things back in the day and to many is now considered a hero. Maybe he is just trying to get attention, IDK. If you think him not standing for the anthem is any less "American" than the things Trump is doing and saying and the things Hilary Clinton is doing and saying, then that my friend is the problem with the country IMO

Another veteran here, this one of the Vietnam War era. For the person who mention the poor reception Gulf War vets received upon their return, Vietnam vets got that in spades and more. We weren't even allowed to join some of the veterans organizations that were filled with WWII and Korean vets. CK can protest if he wants. I don't agree with every thing he is spouting but as my father used to say, "I won't give a nickel for someone who wasn't a revolutionary in their youth and a reactionary in their old age." Most kids eventually grow up.

During some of my reading today I did come across a quote that kind of fits in with some of the conversation here: "Naturally, the common people don't want was. But, after all, it is the leaders of the country who determine the policy and it is always a simple matter to drag the people along. All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked and denounce the pacificists for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. It works the same way in any country." A quote from Herman Goring in an interview while in custody in Nuremberg prison in April 1946.

CK is just a big baby. Not standing for the anthem is (unfortunately) his right. The amazing thing is look at all the NBA players from all over the world that show respect for the national anthem before games. What if all the non-US born players sat down during the national anthem or wanted their home country anthem played before the game?

Ironic, that time frame coincides with Ike's speech on the growing military industrial complex.

What is ironic about this post is the fact that you think you are not one of the "have nots"

What is also amazing is you know nothing about me to make that assumption. I definitely do not consider myself as a "have not", I consider myself blessed. I also agree that things are out of kelder and people need to earn enough to live on and hopefully have some left over. Although there are many people not putting any effort to do that and relying on tax payers money.

SF QB Kaepernick is not standing for the national anthem at the preseason games in support of BLM. I am retired from the Army after 28 years of service, and it hurts for an American celebrity to disrespect the flag and our national anthem. That is what ISIS and Al Qaeda do to protest our country. He has the right to protest, but why doesn't he find another way to show his support. Rather strange for a black man to protest when he was adopted by white parents

Looks like I stirred up a hornet's nest. Here is some more gas for the fire.

Rich Bouselli Here's what I want everyone that is commenting here to do.
Do some research on why this drastic change of heart.
I did some digging into this kid's life. It seemed strange to me how dramatically his attitude shifted. At first I thought he was just a disgruntled athlete looking for headlines. But then I did some digging.
It seems his girlfriend is one Nessa Diab. A black lives matter and pro-Islam activist. She is Muslim. Her father is middle eastern. She grew up moving between the Middle East and the US.
Suddenly this kid starts to look more and more Muslim, the long beard and unkempt haircut. This isn't Colin at all. At least not a Colin any of us have ever seen.
From what I understand he's converted to Islam and suddenly he hates America. That should send up a red flag, not just about Colin but about this woman he's dating and her family.
What kind of dinner table talk goes on that he is suddenly this angry?
I may be overreacting but it seems like he is slowly becoming radicalized.

I may be wrong. That is why I'm asking everyone to do some research and come discuss with me. If I'm proven wrong, that's fine too.

Do some research and get back to me with what you find.

Slavery wasn't started in the USA either, doesn't mean it wasn't a problem. Isn't extreme in the USA?!?!?! Look at the distribution of wealth in this country, google it and take a look for your self. If you want to compare the USA to Saudi Arabia, Zibabwe, or any other 3rd world country that in itself is a problem, oh goody our society is better than Zimbabwe so everybody shut up about it. And yes, Kaeper is a "have not" compare to the true "haves" that control the media, medical, insurance, oil, pharmaceutical, etc.... If you have a problem with somebody exercising their rights as a citizen of the USA, than the problem is yours

"Look at the distribution of wealth in this country, google it and take a look for your self. If you"

Ahhhhh .... the old distribution of wealth argument. Don't like it, but still use Facebook, Microsoft Office, Amazon, internet, cars etc etc....

Keep in mind, these billionaires created a service the world wants, stepped on very few to make it, and will give away most of their money.

We are richer because of the new billionaires, not poorer. They did not make their money by stealing from us, unlike most billionaires from underdeveloped nations.

What an idiot. He can leave this country any time he wants.

Yep...he can. Nothin new here. We've always had folks who wouldn't stand for the anthem.

You don't need to worry about it unless we're all afraid not to stand. Sieg heil, baby.

Reminds me of when I returned from VN in Oct. of 71 after spending the year flying helicopters where incidentally, 50% of my flight class died. I was stationed at Ft. Carson, CO and a group of us decided to go to an AF Academy football game. During the National Anthem, a young couple directly in front of us refused to stand even after a couple of my friends gently reminded them. It was really strange that my buddy and I both spilled our beers at same time as we sat down and both beers landed on their heads. They decided to move.

Heroic act! Many of us served our country and can still recognize the rights we have as US citizens and the laws we live under. Saluting the flag and standing during the anthem have always been considered symbols of speech by justices of all stripes. Even super-patriots should live within the law. But you don't have to.

Is it true that Kaepernick converted to being a muslim?
I think that is so.............
If so, very interesting, indeed
If he converted to Islam his explanation for his actions is very strange. Muslims practice slavery in the Middle East and Africa.

Not sure how this is relevant? Who cares

Actually it is relevant as Muslims(not even talking about the radicals) have a not so patriotic stance. Don't have the time to post a bunch of links but it is well documented. They have zero interest in assimilating and in fact are quite demanding in their political views in the promotion of Islam. This is all around the world; ask Sweden, France, England, etc. Just as an example off the top of my head, when has there ever been an American flag in or on or around a Mosque? At 43 years of age and having worked with, dealt with, and serviced thousands of Muslims, I have yet to hear them say one positive thing about our country. And no I'm not a red neck, actually an immigrant myself and call myself an Asian-AMERICAN. When was the last time a Muslim immigrant referred himself/herself as American? So yes, if CK has recently converted to Islam, it is sadly relevant.

My opinion actually is I cant wait til hes let go and out of the league. He's 2nd string and getting beat out. i bet the house that if he was the starter he would not have pulled this stunt. He's an attention whore.

This is true to an extent. The problem is a lot of people make ridiculously low wages and given the skyrocketing cost of living over the last 10 plus years many people receiving food assistance and other government benefits are actually working.

I used to work for an agency subcontracted by DHS. Trust me, I know, it's a crummy system, which is designed to keep people dependent on government. Many people with families only work 20 hours a week or less because the system is so stupid and screwy that It punishes people for working more hours because they would lose Medicaid and food assistance if they worked more hours at what...$8.25 an hour or whatever they get? Trust me, no one could raise a family working 60 hours a week on that, let alone 40.

Wages gotta go up, friend, to keep up with the cost of living. Plain and simple. And I know the whole rebuttal of "wages going up will cost jobs." No, actually the opposite occurs--people are less dependent on government and have more money to contribute to the economy. So production and demand goes up.
That's the biggest problem....you shouldn't be getting any government help if you only work 20/hrs a week. They need to really look closer at who gets money too. I'm so sick of seeing people in 15k+ car, with their brand new jordans, go into a store and use a food stamp card. Or buy some food with food stamps and break out cash for their smokes and booze! If someone would rather spend their money on cars/clothes/booze etc than food....then let them starve! Call it harsh if you want but it is what it is. Others who don't have the luxury of that choice are already going without food. Give it to them....

Also I think raising minimum wage is pointless. It'll just raise the prices at places who pay minimum wage or close to it.....and guess who shops there...people making minimum wage ;). As long as you make the minimum, or close to you'll always be lucky to survive. It'll certainly help cripple the middle class even more, don't see how it will help the lower class though.....

What we need to do is get rid of the walmarts, amazons etc of the country. The ones that have torn apart small business...the business that helped grow america...the business that often truly cares about its employees.
Companies should NOT get rewarded for creating jobs that don't pay a livable wage...that I totally get behind! It's absolutely ridiculous!

As for "colon" he's a total dbag.....
Not gonna waste my time :)

It's not even close to 1-3%! That would be like 3-9 million people. It's a tiny fraction of that!
Yes, if you're running for president you're basically not to be trusted these days :(. I haven't bothered voting the past 2 elections and won't vote again. Some piss poor choices at the polls!

I don't use microsoft office or buy from amazon :) and proud of it!
That said I have a lot more respect for what gates and most the techies have done vs a low life company like amazon!

The amazons and walmarts are the country have NOT helped this country become RICHER!

The government giving money to companies that are increasing automation to decrease jobs is insane! Giving money to companies for creating jobs that don't pay a livable wage is also crazy!

I am not talking about the handful of people who are rich because they actually did something, I am talking about the filthy rich who we never here or talk about. The filthy rich that are rich because they are born into it and create policies to keep that status quo.....the cycle continues and will continue until people have the courage to stand up to corruption

purposely dumping beer on someones head for exercising their rights in a free country is pathetic? Oh the irony

Dude you haven't seen the ball since the kickoff!!

Okay, so dream a second: What if the machines could be made to do everything people have to do now? We'd hear "What about the jobs lost!" by people stuck in the paradigm that they "must have a job". They think they "must have a job" because they think they need money to buy things they need. But what if everything was free?

Now, back to reality: Why did my Toro mower I just bought cost less than essentially the same (actually, inferior) Toro model I bought in 1986? Because the machines were employed to make it, and load it and ship it and etc. I had to work a lot less to afford the same (superior, actually) product.

Our economy is constantly working to eliminate work. This is a good thing and should continue (and, by the way, will continue).

Okay, I now have the ball first and goal on your 3. Ready to make a stand?

Lol. Believe it or not, I agree with most of that. The point that you were basically alluding to is that people can get welfare assistance easily without being required to pass a drug test (and many are making bank by selling drugs--hence the fancy clothes and wheels). Trust me, I get it. The system is crummy and rewards dishonesty. And like I said, it punishes people if they try to work more.

I would disagree raising the minimum wage is pointless. In fact, I would argue Abraham Lincoln was the first to impose a minimum wage--hence why we fought a Civil War in the 1860s. ;) The fact is prices have risen significantly for quite a while and wages have been stagnant. Also, raising the minimum wage will increase everyone else's over time which will lead to a stronger and growing middle class--the backbone of America. It will also move people from dependence on government.

And yes, lol, I agree he is a total dbag.

So what if he is speaking against law enforcement, should he not? Is it not corrupt? have we not seen injustices on film? Were those law enforcement officers themselves brought to justice? Do we not have psychological studies (Stanford Prison Experiment) that shows what "normal" people become when given that kind of power. Speaking out, not standing, etc are much better ways to protest than grabbing a gun and killing people. I simply have no problem for what
Me thinks MileHigh is just sad as he's not able to Feel the Bern anymore.

LOL, I would absolutely rather vote for this man than the 2 canidates we have on the ballot this year. I see you get all your information on socialism from the TV screen from our media sources. Some of the best econmies in the world today have some socialism embedded, you know kind of like the United States. Police, Fire Department, NASA are a few socialist ideas we practice in America.....but heaven for bid we mess with our health care system, the most corrupt health care system in the world

So what if he is speaking against law enforcement, should he not? Is it not corrupt? have we not seen injustices on film? Were those law enforcement officers themselves brought to justice?

Yes, seeing an incident on video means the entirety of law enforcement is corrupt...broad brush much?

I don't see the big deal. He is protesting for something he believes in. People do it all the time.

I think many feel that yes he has the right to protest, he just picked a very disrespectful way to do it. When you protest like this, you bring negativity to YOURSELF, and to the CAUSE.
