She also claims that Caitlin, and I quote, "ain’t done shit but be white."

I hate to say it, but I read a decent chunk of the article too. Honestly it's not poorly done, but it was nothing that needed to be written. Or, I guess it did, if you're looking to add to the pile of subliminal race-baiting crap that's out there.Saw the title of this post, and thought maybe it was about this article today...
Why hasn’t middle America given Paige Bueckers the Caitlin Clark treatment?
https://sports.yahoo.com/article/why-hasn-t-middle-america-090018841.html
To answer his question rather simply, "Maybe because Paige isn't playing as exciting of style, hitting multiple logo threes every game, leading an underdog to multiple Final Fours including an almost unimaginable upset of the undefeated defending national champ, and chasing & eclipsing the all time scoring record? Maybe, just maybe, that's why." Oh, "And she plays in middle America, not at the east coast juggernaut that everyone else is sick seeing win all the time for the past 25-30 years. - maybe that has something to do with it too?"
That article is such bait, and I'm ashamed to say I fell for it - oh well
It would be the equivalent of Paige having the “balls” 😏 to stay home, take the Gofers to back to back NC games, develop into the greatest college basketball player of all time, fundamentally change not only women’s basketball, but women’s sports, beat all the blue bloods along the way, tell Diana Taurasi and Scott Van Pelt to GFTs after beating mighty UConn, win every award and break every record… All that in MN. And ummmm… Paige would have to lift her game up to CC’s level, which I don’t see happening. Not a killer. CC a KILLER.Saw the title of this post, and thought maybe it was about this article today...

People are sick of the UCONN's the LSU's the South Carolina's. Caitlin was on a team that was making history and it wasn't any of the schools that I just mentioned so she got more attention than Buekers. Plus she set all kinds of records.Saw the title of this post, and thought maybe it was about this article today...

This is very much overlooked and a great point. Paige is a fantastic player with no question. However it’s easy to shine when you’re surrounded by 5-stars every year.It would be the equivalent of Paige having the “balls” 😏 to stay home, take the Gofers to back to back NC games, develop into the greatest college basketball player of all time, fundamentally change not only women’s basketball, but women’s sports, beat all the blue bloods along the way, tell Diana Taurasi and Scott Van Pelt to GFTs after beating mighty UConn, win every award and break every record… All that in MN. True but she'll now be branded an open and admitted racist for the rest of her career. Hope those clicks were worth it.Don't know why that would get a rise out of folks.
Some media personalities will throw out that sort of thing just to get clicks/attention. You never really know what they really think. Given how the underlying algorithms work ... it's simply about attempting to get add-revenue. If you piss people off ... or play to confirmation bias ... if it gets the clicks, people will say it (or do it).
Also, it's sad that some Iowa fans would be rushing to play any sort of racial card too. It's not suggesting that the OP was doing so ... however, lumping the said personality with Sheryl seems to be pointing to that direction.
Anyhow, I think that we all know that what Caitlin did in the collegiate game was nothing short of phenomenal. What's more, she followed that up in her rookie season in the WNBA by setting records. She's fun to watch and she clearly loves the game of basketball. Obviously, if someone suggests that she (Caitlin) "hasn't done shit ..." ... then that individual is trying to get a rise out of people because everyone knows what the facts are.
As I've indicated about folks on these boards ... an individual might say or do something (stupid) that may be perceived as racist - however, that needn't brand the individual as "racist." For example, many folks on these boards write similarly stupid remarks ... but I would defend most of them and suggest that they aren't "racist" (just prone to stupidity ... I don't know if they'd prefer that).True but she'll now be branded an open and admitted racist for the rest of her career. Hope those clicks were worth it.
People who aren't racist don't say racist things. People who are racist do say racist things. You're talking in circles and overthinking a concept that's really as simple as that. Seriously, you said "ergo"? Lol, get over yourself. I don't know if they'd prefer that).
Anyhow, that media personality could easily have reposed their remark in a slightly different way - and the remark itself wouldn't have been discriminatory in the least. For example, given the demographics of this country (over 60% white), it would be a sociologically trivial statement to recognize that people usually identify more with individuals who resemble themselves. Furthermore, when there are charismatic or ultra-talented individuals ... folks will gravitate towards those whom extremely impress them and/or those whom they relate to. Ergo, the fact that Caitlin is white most certainly plays a nontrivial role as it concerns her popularity.
Of course, you could argue other factors also influence her popularity too. For instance, since she openly identifies as religious and heterosexual - those factors also play a non-trivial role in how conservative-America relates/responds to her.
I have no desire to diminish Caitlin in any capacity. For those who have eyes - it's readily apparent that Caitlin plays ball with a charisma and joy for the game that is infectious. Steph Curry's popularity is derived from comparable factors. Also, like Steph, Caitlin plays a brand of ball that can be very entertaining to watch (super-deep shots, circus passes, etc). Quite obviously, Caitlin brings plenty of talent/skill to the table.
However, with all the above said - Caitlin is not the first really talented player be in the WNBA. She's not ever the first super-talented religious, heterosexual, white woman. I think that is part of the reason why there was some backlash last season ... as evidenced from comments by Geno Auriemma and many WNBA coaches. Those folks are grasping to figure out why the deserving talent that existed in the WNBA before didn't get their due respect/attention. It IS a little strange that a single rookie has garnered such disproportionate attention.
Dude, or however you identify, you are so woke you've gone blind. You people just keep on defending garbage racists like her and your party will never recover. It's typical, though, I know you're an educator living in a fake world. As I've indicated about folks on these boards ... an individual might say or do something (stupid) that may be perceived as racist - however, that needn't brand the individual as "racist." She could have said a lot of different things - but she didn't. She made an ignorant, racist remark. She's a big girl and knew quite well what she was saying. She deserves to be exposed as a racist. As I've indicated about folks on these boards ... an individual might say or do something (stupid) that may be perceived as racist - however, that needn't brand the individual as "racist." Why all the gymnastics trying to defend her trash remarks? Maybe she can change for the better someday, but if people like you keep enabling her, that's unlikely.
I'm afraid that you don't understand what you dislike.Dude, or however you identify, you are so woke you've gone blind. You people just keep on defending garbage racists like her and your party will never recover. It's typical, though, I know you're an educator living in a fake world.

I get why Homer is defending the sentiment, but in this particular case, this woman actually does have a problem, and it's not just an isolated remark that she'll come to regret. She's a racist Homer. Get over it. Read her statement again. Why you're defending her is ridiculous.
