Should we complain about the refs?

You act like this doesn't happen across ALL of CBB and the NBA.
First of all, **** the NBA, overpaid prima donnas, secondly, any decent coach would sit their asses down as soon as they started bitching at a ref. And no, disciplined teams with good coaches do not have players whining about every call. Instead, Frannie's teams look like the poorly coached, soft, undisciplined teams that they have been over the past 10 years.

Bad defense as usual, but some iffy calls down the stretch. That "nba continuation" was amusing for 2 freebies. Then Perkins strips Alexander clean but gets called for another 2 freebies. Then their 7footer gets stripped off the inbounds for 2 freebies. Sandfort appeared to get his arm whacked on a 3 pointer, but I guess we'll never know since FS1 couldn't manage to show a single replay. Uh, okay?
The "and one" looked like a terrible call to me. Perkins fouled Alexander with his hips, but the strip looked clean. The inbounds play to the big he was hacked on the arm so hard not to call that one - it looked bad because there had been a potential one on the other end not long before that wasn't called, but I still thought that was a clear foul. Who knows on Sandfort's play as we didn't get to see it again. Hard to believe he misses that badly but don't know.

I thought the NBA continuation calls your referenced were the worst of the night.
Perkins got away with a foul on that possession near half court, kind of a wash.
Bowen raked their guy on the inbounds, probably a good call.
Would like to see replay of Sandfort 3, I assume he was fouled by his reaction
Well that, and the ball was about 6 ft short of the basket. Hard to believe he could have been that short on the jumper had his arm not been hit......

Is any game worth getting worked up about? Referees ref, fouls are called or not, shots are made or not. During the game let out some emotion but let the sun come out the next day and be glad we have the team we have.
To me this team has more good players then any team we've had for some time but they're young.
We still have very below average guard play for a P5 team. We REALLY need Dix to step up in the offensive end of the floor. Perkins is still Perkins. Has his moments when he looks all league, and then stretches where he disappears. Bowen doesn't have the jumper to threaten the defense with, and for those saying Harding will be starting by the B1G play, well, I'll believe that when I see it. All of our offense comes from the frontcourt. People here say that great guard play determines NCAA success. If so then this team is in for an early exit again, (if we get to the tourney) unless someone REALLY steps up in the backcourt. This is just the way it is with a Fran team. I hate to be negative after a couple of games, and they did a lot of good things last night, but we are SO weak in the back court compared to other good teams. 2024 looks like more of the same. A solid stretch 4 in Koch, (who I think we'll be a very good player, and a power 4. No guards, and we'll be damn lucky to land a difference maker.

A little disappointed that Bowen doesn't seem very confident in the 3 point shot. Because he's so quick he had a few opportunities for a quick step back but didn't take it. I will say I thought he looked much more confident w/the ball than last year. He had a few very nice drives that he took strong to the hole that just rimmed out. He's better than last year, which I know isn't saying a lot. I think Harding will be a nice player but he's small and certainly not any kind of defensive stopper. Dix still has a ways to go as well. Perkins makes a lot of spectacular plays and has the ability to really lock down on D but fades in and out.

That "continuation" call against Pat McCaffery, giving King an and-1 was atrocious. Not even close to being in the act. A couple others went Creighton's way, Perkins had a clean steal with some body contact beforehand but I thought the offensive player was bumping into Tony there. The game was generally pretty clean though and I don't have a big problem with how it was officiated. Could have stopped play earlier on the play when Sandfort went down.

You feel that way in the low profile non con games because we’re playing overmatched teams that we blow out. So a missed call here and there is no big deal. Guess what? Refs miss a few. Your coach doesn’t have to go apeshit every time it happens. And Creighton if you saw the stats just doesn’t foul much. Maybe it’s reputation, I don’t know. Or maybe the refs don’t like Fran. That’s certainly possible. He’s an easy guy not to like during the game.

So personal feelings of an official impact the way a game is officiated? You don’t see an issue with that?

How many calls is Greg McDermott’s likability worth each game, three or four?

Missed my point but carry on. Refs miss calls. Every single game. For both teams. You and I know Fran has developed a reputation. Of course it shouldn’t affect how they call a game and I’m sure the refs will say it doesn’t. Every game we lose 10-15% of the board cries about 2-3 calls. The one on Pat was ridiculous. Point taken. He blew it. Our poor start to the 2nd half cost us the game. Plain and simple. Maybe if Fran didn’t go apeshit once a game he’d get more calls, deserved or not. Coach your team and play on.

Another Courtney Green Special for Iowa. I think the better team won and I'm not sure how much the officiating actually impacted the outcome of that game. It just seemed like every time Iowa started to get really close in the second half a bad call would end the run. On the other hand, as a team you need to be able to overcome those things and it's not like Iowa played perfect down the stretch either. Although they did play well. Creighton came out and dominated the first 8 minutes of the 2nd half and that was the difference in the game. What I really liked was once Fran finally let the starters get a break it was the freshmen who came in and started clawing our way back into the game. There's potential for this Iowa team to be far better in February if these freshmen keep improving.
Can Iowa ask the Big10 to not have Courtney Green ref their games?

Based on what we have seen, I don't think your analysis is wrong. I just think that you need to take into account that there are a lot of freshmen who will be better in February than they are right now (Well, everyone should be better, but it's usually freshmen who make the most progress in season as they adjust to the speed of the game). Now, you can use past experience on Fran teams and how freshmen have improved and I guess he's had pretty mixed results, which is probably typical for most coaches.

Losers always complain about the refs.
I am seeing Hawkeye fans turn into Iowa State fans complaining about the refs. All Fran, it has gone from Conner and players being whiney little bitches, to Iowa fans. Class it up, or go support Iowa State.

Bad reffing or not, I'm tired of Iowa players being whiney little bitches every time they disagree with a call. It is a direct reflection of our coach and years of Conner. No class.
What? Did you just call the entire team whiney little bitchez?

Losers always complain about the refs.
That's weird because the Creighton crowd pissed and moaned like a bunch of entitled and ignorant dipshits the entire game. I guess I was right after all about Creighton fans, just a bunch of losers.

True, but there's something about two teams going at each other that hard in the first half and you look up midway through and it's 7-0 in favor of Creighton. Now, the refs started giving some make-up calls but there was little pressure put on Creighton. If nothing's getting called, you can be that much more aggressive and no one on their team is in foul trouble, etc. How on earth could there not be a single foul against Creighton in about 11 or 12 minutes of the game? Give me a break.

Not sure why some of you think every college basketball game should be 50-50 in fouls. It doesn't have to work that way. And most times it doesn't. Creighton was number 2 last year in the least number of times they fouled, averaging 13.1. We were at 29 but honestly at 14.8 per game that's not a big difference. Creighton this year is basically not fouling. Call it what you want. They're averaging 9.0 fouls per game, and that includes the 14 in the Iowa game. So that's number 1 in the country. Maybe it's reputation. I don't know. They're also not a super physical team, they're clearly more of an up and down finesse team kind of like we are.
