Sign The Petition: Blackout Uniforms Are Permanent Uniforms

Hell no. But thanks for playing.

In one of the greatest upsets in Iowa history, the Hawkeyes were wearing an unrecognizable uniform. I think that's unfortunate rather than something to celebrate. Iowa's regular uniform is one of the top 10 in college football.

These unis were better than most team's alts, but leave it at that. One masquerade party a year is plenty.

As thrilled as I was with the play today, it was somewhat difficult because the Iowa team that I was rooting for didn't look like Iowa. The Hawkeyes looked like just one of so many teams wearing uniforms that have no reflection on their history. I hated the gray helmets and I hated the lack of yellow on the uniforms. I'm not against having an alternate uniform. I'm not against black tops and pants. I just don't want our team to look like every other team. I want them to look like the Iowa Hawkeyes. Tradition is something to covet and cherish. Gimmicks are for losers. We are not Minnesota.

This. Couldn't have said it better. I was saying much of the same today to my family. Gray bothered me and lack of gold as well. They need black helmets all the time. Black looks great under the lights.

Fixed it for ya

I liked the font of the numbers - throw those on the actual uniforms for an update to the classic. (not the gray I's)

Black Alternatives Once a Year w/ Crowd "Blackout"
Gold Alternatives Once a Year w/ Crowd "Gold Rush"

Uniforms with the crowd was awesome on TV

What happens to these alternate uniforms anyway... I thought one time someone said they are auctioned off for charity?

I'm not a fan of the helmet, needs to be black. And the numbers need to stand out a bit more. Otherwise I say we need to try doing that maybe twice a year. It obviously showed some intensity today. The kids played inspired ball.

I love these uniforms. Love them! Keep them!

Iowa is only about 10 yrs late

I didn't care for this version of uniform but I would like to see them wear alternative about 4 times during the year! It seems like they could have done a lot better with their choice given Iowa's colors. I would like to see them continue roll out new versions.

Maybe let the fans narrow down the choices? Make a contest of it.

I would like to see the team never take these uniforms off again. I think should go to class in them, sleep in them, practice in them, and play every game in them forever or until they lose again whichever comes first.

Can't read the numbers in the stadium.
Some numbers were easier to read than others. Either change to gold numbers with grey outline, or else make the grey numbers in the traditional block font. Not that it matters, I expect these won't be seen again, though on the whole I liked them, and I'd be OK with them being a starting point for an update of the regular uniforms

Wondering about the block I pattern on the helmets - is that paint or a big decal? Going to guess that would be hard to maintain over a full season.

We all know the story and that story is part of the tradition at Iowa. Iowa's uniform and helmet combo is amongst the most recognizable in sports. Still we have hip hop idiots who don't know who Randy Duncan was, who wasn't even born when Hayden was hired who grew up playing nothing but video games and who want the Hawkeyes to look like a video game. Tradition has an immense value. Why do you think that changing the uniforms to look like video game warriors will add future value. When is the last time Michigan changed it's helmut design? You do know that they copied Dartmouth(?) on the design, right. That doesn't seem to bother anyone and outside of Iowa, I never hear or read any remarks about the Steelers unless someone is talking about Fry.

If it ain't broken don't fix it. It looked nice on TV considering the lights were on in Kinnick from the start of the game adding some shine to the helmets but in the stadium it just looked like the boys rolled around in graphite shavings.

Special uni's (Nike Pro-Combat, etc) are cool, and a nice recruiting tool. I think they should be saved for max one home game a year and let it be a reward. If the team plays like a turd in September and October then no special uni's for that special late fall home game against Big Ten ranked team "X." If the guys are playing good then let them have that as a nice reward. What good is it to whip these boys out in November if all we have to get excited about is the chance to beat Purdue on the Big Ten Network alternate channel?

Had a hard time with reading the numbers in the stadium especially the names they were in gray just didn't like the gray regular unis please

So can I assume you would have been entirely against changing the uni's back in the 70s when Hayden got here? I mean, tradition and all. Right?

I also loved them, but please no on changing our traditional look- I like it and only shitty programs change their look. Kansas, ISU, Purdue, Minny, Illinois, etc constantly change because they want to change production on field but can't (I know ISU having nice season) so they change uniforms.
OSU, Michigan, Bama, PSU, LSU, even Nebby has remained because they are good programs (or were good programs in the case of Nebby
What is wrong with our traditional?
1 blackout uni game with these jerseys would be fine, one game where they wear black pants with traditional would be cool, 1 all gold game would be cool, and then 4 traditional uni home games. Having a white out would be cool with away game, wear black pants for one game, and then 3 traditional. Everybody is happy :)

Purdue hasn't changed?
Bama, Mich, PSU, etc don't need to change uni's because they're all totally original to begin with, and all are awesome imo.
