Is it me or did most of the wrestlers the Hawks faced in the semi and Clark in the final look big. Clark looked about 10 lbs lighter than his guy.

I just said that in another thread. Everyone cuts, but I don't know if we cut more and others choose to wrestle up with some muscle on board. My other thought is that people don't have a competitive team from top to bottom so they let their superstars wrestle whatever what they fit into best.

Will Tomasello be able to wrestle 125 next year? Not sure how tall he is but he looks so much more muscular, actually chunky, than other 125'ers.

He probably was. He cuts hard and weigh ins were hours ago. Clark is not cutting nearly as hard.

The overall strength of our wrestlers is a major issue in my opinion.

Tomasello is thick, but he's quite short. I don't think he'll have trouble holding 125.

I agree our guys are just not as stout. Evens vs Brown is a prime example. Gillman looks smaller than most of the top 125 guys. Our 141 guy same thing.

The Hawkeyes lacked size compared to many of their opponents. They were not smaller from a muscular perspective but from pure size. I thought Matt Brown was a bit 174 but he looked small compared to Wilps. I do not think Clark could be considered an undersized 133 but Brewer looked significantly bigger than Clark. Makes me wonder what they do to get to weight compared to the Hawkeyes.

Brewer is a huge 133. Huge. Will be shocked if he's not at 141 next year. He was just head and shoulders better than everyone at that weight. Clark wasn't close.

Gilman is fine at 125. Clark seemed like a tweener this year and made the finals, he will continue to get bigger. Sorensen is a good size 149 and doesn't get overpowered. Paddock and Meyer have both wrestled up a weight at times from their projected 165/174 spots so I expect them to be fine compared to the competition. Brooks size is fine. Burak is a big boy and Telford was huge. Stoll doesn't sound like a strong bean either. Talent not size will be our biggest hurdle against PSU and OSU.

Unless it is physically impossible to do so it would be wise, getting your ass beat by Martinez would not be fun for 3 years.

This is true. The kid is scary. If I had National Title aspirations, I would avoid this weight like the plague.

But, somebody has to wrestle there, and some really good guys won't have much of a choice. You really want to be where you're most effective, and preferably comfortable, for the journey. When the end of the rainbow is Martinez though..... Yikes.
