I might get a lot of slack for this but I was embarrassed as a Hawkeye fan last night during the last two minutes of the game.

One of my favorite things at Kinnick is the I-O-W-A chant after a score. And yes, it's fun to extend it for a long time.

However, it was still a ballgame after our last score. Do the chant as loud as you can but when the opponent gets the ball in their hands you stop and go straight to the "get loud as hell" on every down until you know for a fact the game is over.

Only after it was 1st and goal did our fan base realize "oh this game is not over".

I could go on about this but I won't go into details. Just not smart on our part.

10-0 Go Hawks!!!!!

I don't get why this is embarrassing to anyone. The fans were cheering wrong?

Maybe not the best word. I guess embarrassed as I thought our fans were smarter than that. Anyone that has watched college football should know that the game was still in reach.

LOL, yeah I've got this on video on my phone. It was funny I thought. Here we are cheering away, and Minnesota just marches right down the field.

OP you are an embarrassment.

Great thanks. Really I'm just a huge fan that knows how the fans can make an impact during games. Given the magnitude of this game, I would have preferred the crowd to not celebrate too early and keep giving the players the home field advantage.

Eh, what are you hoping for? A false start penalty/delay of game? Those don't happen as often as everyone thinks, and Minn was in hurry mode, don't think a delay of game would have come.

I liked the Iowa chant, not our fault the defense couldn't stop them.

yeah, i agree that the IOWA chant lasted way too long; once Minny had the ball, it was time to change to an all out, be as loud as you can be

i was surprised that it took our crowd so long to figure out it was time to stop the IOWA chant and to get loud as hell

I agree with the OP. Once inside the 5, it was almost as if the idiot fans realized they had been hoodwinked. By then it became apparent that they suddenly realized that they failed to do their job by disrupting the offense the entire way down the field.

The only people more idiotic than the fans are the posters who are dismissing it. The fans can maybe use the excuse that they got caught up in the moment. The posters have all the time in the world to think this through and they still defend the idiots.

The only idiots in this thread are those who actually think the chant had any impact on the game. Minnesota's offense would have marched down the field for a TD no matter how the crowd cheered. If you want to be embarrassed about something, be embarrassed our coaches didn't call our last timeout on that drive to settle the defense and bring in an extra defensive back.

So the crowd plays no role? No impact in the game?

Lol at you!

I guess I felt like it was thumbing our nose at Minnesota -- not caring that they were driving -- and we were just going to go right on with our celebration despite them. Who'da thunk they'd drive the field in < 50 seconds to score?

Maybe we shouldn't have been so confident in having the game wrapped up, but I thought it was a cool, fun moment.

Not that crowd noise doesn't generally have an effect on a game.... but the crowd noise did not seem to have any effect on Minnesota's offense other than the first play of the game. Their offense/QB were well prepared and knew exactly what they were doing, crowd noise or not.

Crowd noise does affect the game ... If you don't think so no one can help you ... I agree with the OP and normally our crowd is smart enough to know when to get loud (big home field advantage) however this time We missed (I was there and commented basically the same thing). Thank God Hawks held on for the win!!!! 10-0 baby, go Hawks!

False. The chant was loud as hell and was one of the coolest moments I've had in Kinnick (and I've had a lot of them). It was a big party, and if you were there you'd agree.
I was there and do not agree .... But I totally partied and enjoyed the post game after the game was actually won!!!

Calm down OP. I knew for a fact halfway through the third quarter that we had this game locked up. I took my regular shirt off and put on my "10-0 EZ $$ GG Minnesota" shirt at that point. We were never in danger for one second of that game. Weigers even came in and made one of the greatest hand offs I've ever seen. We are the real deal. Our players need to stop worrying about the Purdues and Nebraskas of the world, and start thinking about what to say during their national championship interviews after we win it,.

At this point of the season being 9-0, leading about to go 10-0, it shouldn't take the fans to get the defense fired up.

I thought the I-O-W-A chant was awesome at the end of the game, it was our defense that made some major blunders. 10-0 is awesome baby!

If King wouldn't have dropped that interception then this thread wouldn't exist. Time we get someone else in there if King isn't going to step up and make a play the few times they actually throw his way.

So generic loud crowd noise would have fired up the defense to make a play but an incredibly loud I-O-W-A chant wouldn't? Got it.

Yet another mom that doesn't understand the concept of concentrated and intensified crowd noise prior to the snap. I'm mean seriously... Think before you post.
