Has the B1G rescheduled ANY postponed men's bball games yet? Seems like they are not addressing this yet except for a minimal amount of shuffling of games this week. Recipe for failure.

Not that easy unless you are ready to play on back to back nights, haven't heard anything about that. It's not like everybody has an open weekend

The first step is getting the teams that have been out to actually be returning to competition. They are not going to announce "Iowa vs Nebraska on XXX date" and then 2 days later Nebraska has another COVID positive and can't return to competition. Penn State is back playing and their fill in dates have been announced, or at least in the process of being announced.

Yes, the B1G was terrible at managing the football season. Just bad. No bye weeks and the whole "we're not playing, oh now we are playing" and leaving so much leeway to the teams to cancel on their own even if the COVID cases don't mandate it was a disaster.

The schedule for the Big 10 for basketball will allow for makeups if teams are willing to do things like play a game on a Sunday, off day, then play Tuesday, off day or two, then play on a Thursday or Friday.

Right now, the gaps in Iowa's schedule would be between Jan. 21 and 29, then Feb. 13 to 18 (Saturday to Thursday, could slide in a game on Monday or Tuesday), then Feb. 21 to 28 (Sunday to Sunday), then Feb. 28 to March 4 (Sunday to Thursday). Once MSU and Nebraska are actually back playing, then you can start to slide in games. And I don't want to hear anything about replacing Nebraska with another game with Michigan. Iowa only plays Nebraska once to begin with, they are competing for a Big 10 title, they get to play the worst team in the leauge at least once. If Nebraska is just going to shut it down or continue to have issues, Iowa should get a forfeit.

B1G should have considered adopting the scheduling workaround some of the mid-major conferences have been using;

2 games (same teams) in 3 days, one location.

I actually wonder if this last postponement will help Iowa. Gives them an entire week to prep for Illinois - which was viewed as one of our toughest challenges.

I don't know....The players want to play the games. They don't like these mid-season week long layoffs. They don't need the extra time to prepare. It is said that the B1G is the most scouted conference in the country. We know Illinois and they know us. Having extra days off is just a distraction.

Doesnt Illinois have the same amount of time to prepare plus a day?

I’m holding out hope they announce immediately after the game tonight that Iowa Illinois is moved to Tuesday. Maybe they didn’t want to announce it to give an unfair advantage to Illinois. If it’s not announced by EOD though I don’t see it happening.

Lots of schools missed the football season. I expected that. Basketball rescheduling is a hundred times easier.

I agree scheduling should be a hundred times easier, but my point was that I have no faith in the B1G accomplishing it, correctly.

Only one conference cancelled the season and to not have that decision “revisited”. Only to have that decision changed with a bunch of arbitrary rules, which were enforced for some schools and changed for others. Then purposely avoided a top 20 match up in week 9.

As others have said, the B1G has failed at every turn of this pandemic. I don’t foresee that changing anytime soon. It’s hard to be upset because this is new territory for everyone, but most other conferences have handled it a lot better than the B1G.

you all do realize the BigTen has contracts in place with TV that dictate the scheduling? It isn't as simple as you think. They're working with 3 Television Networks as well and everyone is looking out for 1 thing... and not player safety.... $$$$$$$$$$$$$$

I wonder whether the NCAA and the conferences can delay tournaments, leaving at least a few weeks to do make up games. I understand there are contracts and many logistical issues, but if that saves the B1G tourney and the dance, I would already be studying that possibility, as more and more games are postponed... April/May madness?

This is correct. That is a huge reason why games aren't being moved to this Sunday afternoon/evening during the NFL championship games. No network wants to go up against those games. Conference (and the schools) don't get money unless a network agrees to put it on its network somewhere.

People say things like "it's all about the money" as if that is a bad thing. The reality is that money allows you to buy food, pay for your Internet service, buy a home or pay rent, do the things that you want to in life. The athletic departments don't exist, period, without revenue. They can't get it by selling tickets right now, so the only source of revenue is TV broadcast rights. So yes, they have to work with the networks to find windows to televise the games. It doesn't mean they don't care about player safety. The conference and the schools are spending a huge amount of money on the testing for all the sports that are active right now. Massive amounts of money on testing.

Yes, but we were going to be on a 3 day turnaround a believe... I don't see having 9 days vs 8 days to be a significant advantage. Just trying to look on the positive side while I wait for us to beat down IU.
