Snapchat helmet Pic per Morehouse

So let me get this straight.....

These alternate uniforms should be all-black or black w/gold/yellow trim...solid numbers or black numbers with gold/yellow outline. The helmets should be shiny black or matte black or chrome or yellow/gold, with a stripe, without a stripe, big tiger hawk, regular size tiger hawk, no tiger hawk, in order to impress recruits and the general public...AND.....our normal uniforms are "classic" and well known to the public (our "brand" so to speak) so they shouldn't be messed with.

That about sum it up?

I defer to the players.....if they like 'em....I like 'em! After all it is for them and other people of their age group(a few years younger) we are recruiting.

First, If Morehouse is the source, I already have questions of the helmet's authenticity. Frankly, it looks like an existing helmet with the black mask, white chin strape, and a stale-dated ANF sticker on it. For me, I'll wait and see.

They announce that people won't see them until 4:30.......then they are careless enough to present an opportunity for someone to take a pic and blast social media with it.....and the player or equipment staff member who knows questions will be asked if leaked sends it out on snap chat? Smells to me like somebody saying, "Watch this....I'm gonna send this out and see what reaction it gets...." We were told that they debated on the helmet beyond when the uniforms were decided. I'm saying this was an option that wasn't the final choice.

That snapchat timer is about three months old and players didn't see the helmets til this week I thought? Also the tiger hawk sticker looks pretty shotty. I'm thinkin no way these are the helmets we're wearing. Greg Morris and equipment managers havin some fun awhile back?

This is a great thought. They removed that snapchat timer ages ago.

Guys guys guys... I will bet every dime that I have and never post on these boards again if Iowa doesnt come out tomorrow night with two larger hawkeyes on both sides of the helmet and a large state outline ANF sticker on the back (they also say have 'IOWA' across the front of the helmet in the face mask area and 'HAWKEYES' on the bottom of the helmet on back...black font, yellow outline on white... the areas where sometimes the helmet brand is written).

These ARE the helmets. As I previously said, jerseys are all black- no design on shoulders or anywhere, yellow numbers, big 10 logo and nike swoosh in yellow. Black pants, Hawkeye on one leg, Nike on the other. Black socks, blocks shoes, gold gloves.

This seems like a false dichotomy.

We will all agree that winning while looking good = positive
We will all agree that winning while looking normal = positive
I suspect most will agree that winning while looking stupid or ugly = neutral at worst

Will we look worse than normal in these new unis? If so, then I think it's a wash - with the exception that the marketing dept generated buzz with their teaser vids.

Here are some blue blood programs that do not/have not sported flashy pro-combat unis: Penn State, Alabama, Notre Dame, Michigan, Texas, Florida State...to my knowledge a lack of special unis has not adversely affected their recruiting efforts.

I think some on this board who really admire the progressiveness and sizzle of other programs that use new and aesthetic uni/helmet combos each year, cooked up some unrealistically high expectations about what we would see with the special black-out uni. Perhaps I'm wrong on this, but I'm inclined to think that KF had some degree of input on this item and told folks not to deviate very far from the normal uniform. While some are disappointed and others are pissed off, the product in this case reflects the team's identity (not overly flashy, solid, and keeping its focus on what's most important - the game itself).

The fact that people got really excited and let their imaginations run wild is a good thing and an indication that our marketing department did their job well.

I wish the guy who invented alternate uniforms would get lost! We have the best looking uniforms in college football...why change them? You don't see USC or Alabama or several other big programs changing their uniforms. In some games, you don't even know what the school colors are..

USC introduced chrome helmets this year but thanks for playing. Ohio State might have the most iconic helmet in college football and they wear different lids 3/4 times a year.

On the snapchat count down number, if he hasn't updated his snapchat since the update it would still have the old countdown.
 
When the team comes out I'm going to stand up and shake my fist.

C'mon guys, a year or two ago Ferentz said they would never do this type of thing. You can't expect the man to change 180 degrees on everything. It's a start...
 
The entire package was unveiled to the team Sunday night. They like them. End of the fashion show. Can we play football now?

JFC people. The recruits will be plenty impressed. The helmets and unis sound fine. Who cares? Just win the game which is more important x 1,000,000 than the effing uniforms. And yes all the recruits feel the same way.

Yes, of course winning the games is most important but you are out of touch if you dont think the vibe of the program matters, and yes, that includes the uniforms. Have you not noticed how "sexy" a program like Baylor has become, and they have like the 100th toughest schedule in the country. Not saying we need to be Baylor, but lets have some fun!!!!
 
The Colorado uniforms on ESPN 2 seem to match pretty closely to the helmet pic and what is being described by some. Not bad, not quite inspiring. Either way, hopefully this is a sign of the program continuing to evolve.
 
HATE any and all alternate uniforms. It has become cliche. Our program is now like the kid who thinks tattoos are still cool and unique and cant wait to get in line for one.

It's just a minor annoyance, but when I'm flipping through channels looking at games, it takes a few moments to even figure out who's playing. I find comfort in familiarity when watching sports.
 
My God, some of you should be on "Say yes to the dress"! Play some football like a #5 team!

Alternate uniforms are EVERYWHERE! NBA, NFL, College Football. Sports influences fashion and visa versa. They can still fit the Iowa Hawkeye brand, they can be classy, tough and more contemporary than our current look.
