So are we OK with rural Iowa being almost uninhabitable so urban areas can have cheaper bacon?

All those things are available to people in the smaller towns. Many of the smaller towns in the regional areas of the city are bedroom towns and hold their own.

The High Trestle Trail is not in Des Moines BTW...its near Woodward or Madrid.
The original dig was anything west of 380 is trash. The follow up dig was what is great about Des Moines it is boring. My responses were to refer to the Des Moines metro, which is great. We don’t live is Des Moines proper either we live in ankeny. But actual Des Moines residents and ankeny residents enjoy the fruits of both and I don’t think I’m alone that I think of myself for Des Moines even though I live I ankeny. It is like when I lived in Lexington, MA. Obviously a suburb or satellite city of Boston. If someone said Boston is boring and I pointed out the many awesome things in Boston proper that can be enjoyed by cities like Lexington, that doesn’t mean Boston isn’t awesome. It also doesn’t mean that I wouldn’t include great things in Lexington in a claim that Boston is great because I mean the Boston metro is great.

I used to power wash hog confinements during high school. Not many jobs would pay a high school kid $20-$30 an hour 15 years ago (min wage was $5.15). The health impacts of a confinement over 1/2 mile away in this article are laughable. The dust from general farming activities would be much more destructive to an elderly persons breathing than the hog confinement.

Because it's fricking exhausting...not many people want to work that hard.

And I agree with @whatsup13579er those "problems" are hilarious from over a half mile away. You wouldn't even smell the confinement at that distance but once or twice a year.

Power washing pig crap is so hard it's worth 6x minimum wage?

No, it's because people don't want to work in that unhealthy environment and they need to pay a premium to get the work done.

Stand on my land, or sit on my deck and you get a nice view, fresh air, peace and quiet. No problems with sound or odor pollution until I have to drive back to town.
