It amazes me at how lost the players look at times on D, especially in the paint. I realize that, in that type of coverage, it takes away from the pick and roll, but everything else about it doesn't work and the perimeter is vulnerable.
What is the source of all this? I’m a pretty heavy consumer of Caitlin and the fever, and have not seen Dunn and/or sides being out. Is this just wishful thinking of fans, or do people “in the know” have loose lips?
Sides isn’t going anywhere. She took a team to the playoffs for the first time since 2016 in her second year. Why anyone would think she’s going to get fired is beyond me.
Have to disagree to the extent Sides would not have come even close to playoffs without CC. The only thing she did IMO was impede CC style BBall and play benchwarmers the first half of the season. JMO
I wonder how much of this is on the coaches versus the players being uncoachable on defense. I am certainly no defensive guru when it comes to basketball. If this guy is right though, Jesus, this is a horrible defensive team.
This team without CC probably wouldn't have made it to the 14 wins necessary to make the playoffs this year. 9 of their wins this season were against the four teams that didn't make the playoffs. 14 wins were against teams with below .500 records. Last year all 13 of their wins were against teams with below .500 records. Of the 9 wins after the Olympic break, they win at most 3 of those without Clark. Mitchell doesn't take off the way she has in the 2nd half of the season if Wheeler and Berger are the PGs. Boston may score a few more points and Smith probably scores more. But they are a slow it down and drag it out style offense that nobody cares to watch.
The owner needs to worry about selling tickets and merchandise first, then hopefully build a team that can compete for a championship along the way. In order to do that they have to protect and cultivate their biggest asset in CC. That means a coach that can run a team that puts up points and wins games while making sure that the refs don't allow her star players to get absolutely mugged game in and out. Sides can't do any of that and needs to go. Maybe she is an adequate assistant coach. But she just does not know how to be the head coach on a team, which makes sense since she had never done it previous to getting hired by the Fever. Not even for a high school team.
I agree they wouldn’t have made the playoffs without CC, but the point is they do have CC. And Sides has to get some credit for getting the team to function together with all the garbage going on especially early in the year when they were losing. I am not a Sides fan, but I doubt there’s an owner out there that would fire her after this season…the worst thing a team could do is let fans run the team.

The inbounds lob into the paint to end the first half had no chance of working at all. 2 seconds is a lot of time to catch and shoot, why would you not just do a series of screens into a shot? That's what every NBA team would do.

I hope people aren’t really getting their hopes up that Sides will be fired. I don’t see it happening.
If Sides is still the coach next season, Count me out. I'm not going to waste my time watching her throwing her players under the bus, not sticking up for players, etc, etc, etc.
Hard to take this franchise seriously if that’s the case. You bring in a new head of operations just to keep status quo? I don’t get it. I might not make it through next season now either. Damn you, Caitlin, why are you so addictive?
It is too bad. I have no reason to believe that she suddenly becomes a good coach. She might be a player's coach, but that still doesn't make up for her lack of managing game plans, adjustments, and in-game decisions.
They may still fire her but are maybe wanting to put out some feelers first to see who may be interested. I suspect there are quite a few accomplished and well known coaches out there that would jump at the chance to coach CC. Then again, they all watched the same s**t show that is the W and may be like no thanks.
Not the same thing I know, but it was so nice how Iowa announced Bluder’s retirement and then like 20 minutes later it was, “Jan is our new head coach.” Kinda nice when players and coaches don’t have to answer questions about what they want in their next head coach and it’s goes straight to, “what do you think of the new coach?” As a fan, I enjoyed that scenario much more than the Lester hire as it took way too long to hire an OC. In the beginning the speculation was kinda fun but it got to the point where it felt like the search would never be done. With that in mind, I would not underestimate the Fever organization’s ability to F*** this up.

If the idea is to even out the playing field in terms of getting calls and respect from refs, it cannot be bluder. At least not now. It will take someone they already defer to, like miller.

I thought the assistant coaches were there earlir this year. I thought Miller seemed to be helping Clark a fair amount.
