Not gonna blame refs but Cole Fisher was gonna blow up option play on 4th and 2 until he got illegally chop blocked. Easy call to make and refs blew it!!!

I realize there was some sketchy missed calls down the stretch. The problem is we had them in 3 straight 3rd and longs and they got all 3 of them on that drive. That just sucks, the one that stands out to me is the 3rd and 8 at mid field.

I looked at the play feed on the last drive. It looks like they were 5/5 on 3rd down conversions counting the td and 1/1 on 4th down. Pretty amazing.

If they were 5/5 on 3rd down there never would have been a 4th down to convert. Nice maths though!

Say effin' what?!?

On the 4th and 2 and on their last scoring play Michigan State committed blatant penalties (Fisner chop blocked and Jewell tackled) that directly impacted Iowa's opportunity to stop their game winning drive. Is it your position that these egregious rules violations should be overlooked because Michigan State converted plays up field? That makes no damn sense.

You can find missed calls in all games, against both teams if you look hard enough. Bottom line is our lack of a running game left our defense on the field too long and MSU wore our defense down. Both teams played hard and we lost. However, we got the ROSE BOWL. I must be getting old, because I thin k that's awesome.

There were a number of things that happened (on the final drive alone) that would have flipped the outcome. That chop block on Fisher was one, but two egregious holds during the TD play that weren't called sealed it.

Here are a couple of questions:

1.) What do the Iowa and MSU football teams have in common? Both 12-1 B1G teams headed to major bowls.

2.) What do they not have in common? Playing a game in January 2016.

#2 has yet to be decided depending on what happens the last day of 2015...

I love the Rose Bowl and I'm looking forward to spending New year's in Pasadena, but I'd still rather be going to Dallas and playing on new year's eve.

Not really.

I'll let you think about it for a minute.

BTW...I'll assume that you meant the "last day of 2015"...

Yep, you caught me mistyping. Already corrected before I read your response, though my computer is a bit slow these days. Umm... So you really think that the Cotton Bowl is rigged for Alabama so that MSU won't win it? Last time I checked, the next game after that is played on JANUARY 11, 2016 in Glendale, AZ. Unless you are claiming that it's not possible for MSU to win the Cotton Bowl, then it still hasn't been determined yet.

It should be evident, but yes, I'm claiming that it's essentially not possible (certainly extremely unlikely) for MSU to win the Cotton Bowl. They were beyond fortunate to win the B1G title game (as mentioned a million times before, they had some help), yet their season will end before Iowa's does. And I don't think the game will have to be rigged for Alabama to win, probably comfortably.

Please, MSU could easily win that game. Cook is the best QB Alabama will have seen all year (much much better than their own QB). MSU might have the best front 7 they have faced to. If you have a great QB and an excellent run defense there aren't too many games you won't have a good chance in. MSU shut down Ezekial Elliot at 2.8 ypc and Ezekial is more talented than Henry.

You mean the Henry who won the Heisman?

ok.

SMFH!

First, I am told what happened on earlier third downs excuses the refs swallowing their whistles near the goal line. Then, I am told that what might happen in an upcoming game excuses it.

The logic train just jumped the track, rolled over and went up in flames.

Yes, I mean that Henry. Ezekial Elliot will be an earlier pick according to NFL scouts becuase he is more talented. Henry had a better year, yes.

I doubt that any of what you've said will pan out.

Would you like to put a wager on the outcome of the game?

You're being a D head....MSU won.

There is no conspiracy.

Hmm... So would you be one that swallowed the SEC propaganda last year and said there would be no chance for Ohio State to beat Alabama then too?

After all, OSU's one loss last year arguably was more a legitimate loss by the Buckeyes than MSU's was this year to the Huskers.

We'll see.

The offer to place a wager on this extends to you.

A simple "yes" or "no" will complete the conversation.

24-10...Bama

Yeah......does that make it okay? And we're not talking about just missed calls, but officials not showing a willingness to make calls at all late in extremely close games (football, basketball, etc).

Brushing if off is not a solution.........................just sayin.

Watch the perfect form tackle by Spartan lineman #75 on Jewell. Pause it at the :04 mark.

Tackling a player who was in the process of making a tackle, should be a new stat for that. Tackles squared, or something like that.

I've re watch that play to much I think I still can't believe they did not call that block on Jewell and the ref is looking right at it.

It boggles my mind how many Iowa fans are "simply okay" with the officiated outcome of both plays. The refs failed, and it likely cost Iowa a chance at a national championship this century. I suppose it will probably be more interesting to your grandkids.

Probably because we are adults and realize there isn't one thing any of us can do about it?

Also, adults realize that referees aren't perfect and, while it is a shame the calls were missed, live and full speed are extremely difficult to make those calls.

Do I wish they were made? Yes

Did I replay the "what if" scenarios in my head 100 times? Yes.

I flushed it and moved on.

Im with you on this issue. yes there were missed calls, oh well. Not a damn thing we can do about it now. Pretty sure Iowa is in the Rose Bowl and Sparty is in the Semi-finals. If you don't like the system football has in place, then go get your officials certification and become one. Iowa has benefited from "missed calls" in the past as well. So would people rather have coaches have the option to challenge plays where they think a penalty might of been missed? I wouldn't, could you imagine the amount of stoppage and how long games would take.

But going back to what an old coach use to tell us. There is not 1 play that wins a game. There are 60 minutes in football and 1 play lasts maybe 8-10 seconds. So there is plenty of time to make up or control your own fate in the game. Iowa had plenty of chances and turned it over and failed to get into the end zone. The 2nd half offense was horrible and thats why you saw a 50+ plays run to 13. How is that even possible? Horrible execution in the 2nd half by our offense.

If I dive down that rabbit hole, then I have to go back and realize that there were some holding calls missed on some very big Iowa touchdowns this season. If a couple of those were called, maybe Iowa isn't 12-0 in the B1G championship. There were missed calls, for sure. The chop on the 4th and 2 was probably the most egregious, but adults have to realize that those are judgment calls in the moment. They're not reviewable and, over time, they go both to your favor and to your detriment.

Is it possible to watch that play without physically clinching and willing the ball away from the goal line? Well into double digits and I'm not able to do it yet.
