Does Kirk retire? Would be the pinnacle of his coaching career and leave a very good returning team for his legacy coach. Would change the script from how he was perceived after last year.

I for one would like to see him retire on his own terms when hawkeye nation loves him. He's earned that.

I think retiring now would be stupid. Retiring because you got to the Rose Bowl (whether or not you win it) and conceding that it might be the farthest you'll get means that you've lost the passion a while back. I get what you're saying, though. If you won a NC, that would be different. But we should have a bunch of good players coming back next year.

No chance. Why would he? He is only 60, and has a pretty solid team returning.

I think that KF will be around for at least 2-3 years as Brian gets some OC experience. Now Greg Davis, I'd almost put money that GDGD retires after this year. It was said when he took the job that he wasn't looking to be around for too long. This is really the perfect set up to move Brian into the OC role.

Yeah, and if we win the Rose Bowl, we could possibly finish 3rd. I say 3rd, because we'd be a 13-1 Rose Bowl winner, and three of the teams in the CFP would have a loss. One of them would be 2nd, to the NC of course.

The way I feel now about KF, I hope he becomes an Iowa version of Joe Paterno and coaches until he can't walk anymore (provided that he still builds good teams).

I think he would be a great OC. Young, innovative talent is what we need.

Lets hope Davis is gone after this year.

No way he retires, hell have one of the best Qbs in the country next year.

Now he might after next season.

Agreed, and if King comes back and Ott is allowed to come back, watch out B1G. Another run may be on the table.

Can you imagine if those two are back? QB, 2 RBs, solid young receivers, TE's, Oline....THEN Aadd the returning D (including King and Ott)...! I'm going to enjoy this year, but next year could be a good one too!

Why in the world would you raise this subject TODAY?
Just thinking long term. You understand there was a very large and loud contingent of the fanbase that wanted him gone? I posted this to gage fan sentiment. I love Kirk. He is as quality of a man as you're going to find in cfb coaching. I agree with an earlier poster. I hope he stays until he can't hold his bowels on the sideline anymore. Just hope we all can appreciate him even when we only win 7 games the next time.

It's a very reasonable question, but I would be shocked if he retired. It just wouldn't be his style. He will quit when he doesn't enjoy coaching anymore.

I also wonder if he will announce at the beginning of the season when he does. I think he would hate a "farewell tour" but if he could announce a successor that would be best for the program (although there's not really one on the bench right now which reminds me how RIDDICULOUS the Greg Davis hire was).
