So, what are we hearing about the ankle?

This is what I found: I hope this is true

Thanks.

You can count on this from Pisconsin on Friday with Gard to Davison...

What follows is a great (and hopeful) point by @TomKakert

In addition, postgame, Joe was smiling.

Also, many journalists out there think NO MATTER WHAT HAPPENS in the BTT, Iowa has a #2 seed locked up. So Iowa can afford to rest Joe, if needed.

So, lets be hopeful & thankful this week. ;)

Looked like the classic ankle roll. Im guessing it hurts like a mother today and will be swelled up today/tomorrow. I would rest him unless he is quick to bounce back.

You know how Iowa has been vague about injuries this year? With CJ, it was a lower leg injury, with no specifics. Well, we all assumed it was plantar fasciitis (sp?).

And now, with Joe: Fran said last night on the radio show that Joe sprained his ankle against Wisconsin. Again, a sprain was assumed, but nothing was confirmed by the UI. Last night was the first time Fran has said this publicly.

We're a 2 seed unless we win the BTT. I want the team to stay fresh and gelling but that ankle tho... Maybe light duty for him until the NCAAs

I could see some chunk time for him just to sort of keep things loose but not overwork it. They want what we all want so I’m sure they’ll do the right thing at the moment.

Ridiculous to rest him if he can play. Iowa is not going to win NCAA, but winning B1G would be major and probably get them #1 seed. Chance to get to Final 4, but I can’t see Iowa or anyone beating Gonzaga

Michigan will give gonzaga all they can handle if not beat them.

I know Weez has been hotter than the surface of the sun recently but I think Iowa can certainly win some games without him. We will certainly compete.

The CJ injury was indeed a provocative topic/question. This is more specific according to Fran. (The other one).

I agree this is what it looked like as well. Ouch!

Agree here if we have a comfortable lead, give him a few minutes to keep it loose(r).

What a minute...Iowa is capable of winning the B1G tournament, getting a number one seed, and getting to the FF.....but basically has no chance of beating gonzaga?
Not sure that makes any sense.

The ankle, or the talocrural region,[1] is the region where the foot and the leg meet.[2] The ankle includes three joints: the ankle joint proper or talocrural joint, the subtalar joint, and the inferior tibiofibular joint.[3][4][5] The movements produced at this joint are dorsiflexion and plantarflexion of the foot. In common usage, the term ankle refers exclusively to the ankle region. In medical terminology, "ankle" (without qualifiers) can refer broadly to the region or specifically to the talocrural joint.[1][6]

The main bones of the ankle region are the talus (in the foot), and the tibia and fibula (in the leg). The talocrural joint is a synovial hinge joint that connects the distal ends of the tibia and fibula in the lower limb with the proximal end of the talus.[7] The articulation between the tibia and the talus bears more weight than that between the smaller fibula and the talus.

Joe's ankle is doing better. It was not as bad as they thought initially. Joe is a player and will most likely give it a go but understands that this tournament is not the tournament Iowa is gearing up for too make a run. Fran has been very clear with Joe on what he expects and trusts Joe and the doctor decision on playing this weekend. Everything I've heard is that it's a full go unless there is a setback.

I can see why Iowa fans are a bit nervous & why Fran wants to be extremely cautious with Joe. We can lose on Friday and still be a #2 seed. If we would win the BTT, that does not mean we improve to a #1 seed. So, there's not a lot to gain by playing Weezy.

Another concern I have is CJ and that foot/ankle holding up.

Imagine if we were 100% healthy? Instead, 3 (Jack, CJ, Weezy) of our top 7 players are either done or hobbled.

I hear you. It's all a concern. But at some point you either compete in the games that are on your schedule, or you don't. If we take this to its extreme (not saying you are advocating this), Iowa should just back out of the BTT altogether and not play at all. They give a trophy and name a BTT champion. Iowa is the 3rd-seeded team, and if the players are reasonably healthy they should go ahead and play. If Wieskamp is in no danger of further injuring himself, he should play. If he needs more rest, they should hold him out.

Iowa has been walking the proverbial tightrope since Nunge went down and Frederick is dealing with the plantar fasciatus or whatever is in his foot. They have no real backup big men. They don't know what they will get from game to game with Frederick. But you keep going. That's what a team does.
