So, what are we hearing about the ankle?

Fredrick, Wieskamp, Murray and Toussaint have all shown the ability to get into the lane and to the hoop

None of them can consistently take it to the basket. They have to wait for an opening rather than being able to create one.

Michigan will give gonzaga all they can handle if not beat them.

Michigan has looked pretty human lately losing two out of three. Illini I could see but lost to MSU as well. I strongly believe if Michigan had played the full schedule like everyone else they'd have at least 1 or 2 more losses. Just saying........

This makes no sense. They all do it through contact. They all are able to either use a screen or get by the person guarding them. There are numerous examples of this. It's not as if opponents just step aside and say "Lay it in".

I hear you. It's all a concern. But at some point you either compete in the games that are on your schedule, or you don't. If we take this to its extreme (not saying you are advocating this), Iowa should just back out of the BTT altogether and not play at all. They give a trophy and name a BTT champion. Iowa is the 3rd-seeded team, and if the players are reasonably healthy they should go ahead and play. If Wieskamp is in no danger of further injuring himself, he should play. If he needs more rest, they should hold him out.

Iowa has been walking the proverbial tightrope since Nunge went down and Frederick is dealing with the plantar fasciatus or whatever is in his foot. They have no real backup big men. They don't know what they will get from game to game with Frederick. But you keep going. That's what a team does.
Amen Dodger. At this point if he and CJ can go then they should play. I don't get the folks wanting to treat the BIG tourney like it doesn't matter. We've won the BIG tourney what twice? 2001 and 2006? Fran's teams have fared very poorly, and its time to change that now, and go into the NCAA on a solid note. We've won like 10 out of the last 11 games. Lets keep that momentum going.......

Creating an opening where an opening doesn't exist is typically results in a foul,...and frequently it's an offensive foul..

For those saying Gonzaga can't be beat, in the conference championship game near the end, weren't they just leading by 1 or so? To a team I had never heard of....

Take the blinders off, driving to the basket is not their strength and if we had to rely on it, we'd be in trouble. JW has ended up on the ground more times than he's actually made a shot (from driving). We don't have anyone who can consistently drive to the basket (and make the shot). I still love the players but I also understand everyone's limitation. I'm hoping KM can expand his game and be that type of player.

So you've never heard or seen a player that can take someone (one on one) to the basket? That doesn't exist in your world?

They were down 10 not too long ago to a for real team I've never heard of before.

Sure, but to successfully do that you have to start with a bit of an opening,.. The term "one on one" implies equal access to the hoop..

The B1G Tournament does not matter for Iowa this year when it comes to:

* Their NCAA seeding. They are locked into a #2 seed and a #1 seed is unlikely, even if they win the BTT.

* Prestige. We won Big 10 Tournaments under Alford, but did anyone care? Hell no. Everyone bitched & said that the regular season championship is what counts and what matters.

And KC talks above about keeping that MOMENTUM going. Well, we won the BTT in 2006 and we took that MOMENTUM into the NCAA Tournament & how did we fare? 2 words. Northwestern State.

The bottom line, obviously, is this: the players want to play. If the doctors clear Joe & CJ and they can play in pain (if applicable), then they are going to play. And it will be up to Fran to monitor their minutes.

Sure, it would be nice to win & advance in the BTT. EVERYONE wants that. But the real prize is the NCAA Tournament (and not getting knocked out by the Northwestern States of the world). And I would much rather have a more healthy Joe and CJ for the Big Dance, even if means playing Joe & CJ less minutes in the BTT.

A lot of wrong in this blabbering post.

anytime Harb likes your post, you should be very, very concerned with what you just typed.

I don't give a shit who likes my posts. When you say stupid stuff like the quote below, you deserve mocking.

"Prestige. We won Big 10 Tournaments under Alford, but did anyone care? Hell no. Everyone bitched & said that the regular season championship is what counts and what matters."

LOL.... You don't know what you are talking about and deserve the mocking that is to come.

The regular season championship is what matters and where the prestige lies. Everyone knows that. Except Cyclone fans. You can't be as dumb as Clown fans...but maybe you are.

It will be interesting, too, because the NCAA Selection Committee showed, when they revealed their initial top 16, that they were relying on NET rankings.

And looks who's #4 and #5 today. And look who's #45.

Iowa is taking a 1 seed if they win.
To win the BTT we would presumably need to knock off both Illinois and Michigan,.. So yes, I think a one seed could still be in play here..
that's the big debate right now. many seem to think the Illini's strong ending to the regular season locked up a #1 seed, regardless of how the Illini do in the BTT (even losing on Friday).

we shall see.

Here are 2 different opinions on Iowa and possibly getting the #1 seed.

Driving to the basket is literally Toussaint’s game and strength

Put Austin Ash on Davison and just have him pull Davison's shorts down every time he tries to cut.........
Or have Big O practice his upper cut, put him in early and have him "set a pick" on Davison. Maybe Davison will get a better appreciation of what his shots to the nuts feel like. It would be well worth the technical.

I don't get the logic that Iowa has too many loses to get a #1 seed. If Iowa is in the finals of the BTT, they would have the same amount as Illinois.

I believe they have won every game this year by double figures. They have 3 all Americans; Upsets can always happen, but they are clearly the class of the field

Not their strength but they can do it and have done it. Lots of cuts without the ball, too.

This team can flat out shoot it. They are good enough where they don't need to be the best one-on-one players when they are at full strength. If Iowa has Weezy and CJ, I think they have a great chance to run the table in the BTT.

It looks like C.J. is slightly in front of Weezy but dam either C.J. has grown a few inches or Joe is not as tall as 6-6 or 6-7. Too bad it's a still picture but as least it gives us hope that Weezy will see some action tomorrow...

Must have been a different game, as yes I have heard of BYU. Although from the stats it looks like BYU was ahead at half time, so maybe what I saw was midway 2nd half as Gonzaga outscored BYU by 22 in 2nd half.
