i thought spencer looked like he was moving better this time out. i'm firmly in the "he needs matches" camp. he's always wrestled his way into shape/top form slowly through the season. he needs real matches to get there. finding the balance is important.
thought murin looked good. ultra consistent. drake very solid. would really like to see him wrestle volk, but probably won't unless spencer doesn't wrestle.
schriever is a poor man's cory clark. cory was very good at everything, not overwhelming in any position. very well rounded and could win a lot of ways. schriever is very average at everything. no position where he looks totally outclassed, but also no position where you feel like he's going to have a consistent advantage over anybody good.
not impressed with the freshman class. at all really. i was excited about riggins. then he had a rough couple all star matches. got outclassed by gaitan and haines. and now he doesn't look very good so far here. can't scramble at all. very troubling theme for a lot of the sebolt kids considering the future success of the team relies so heavily on that club. also, was franklin always that soft physically? i had an image in my head of him being pretty lean and muscular with plus athleticism. doing the splits on the edge, etc... he looks very slow and plodding out there.
+ Kaleb Young, the Bull, and Jerimah Moody. Not sure if this has been posted before, but I noticed ADS, Eirman and Pat Lugo all coaching up our guys. Cool to see the vets helping out the youngsters.
I'm hoping what we are seeing with Franklin and Riggins is a transformation from a high school version to a college version of these guys both physically and style wise where they are not a good product on the mat right now because they are adding mass and working on new techniques that aren't quite there yet. I kind of doubt it but it makes feel feel better.Really good analysis. Your take on Schriever and Clark is spot-on, in my view. Wish I could say I disagree with you on Riggins and Franklin. My sense is that Franklin, in particular, is very hard-working but just has a lower ceiling than many of the more athletically-inclined big guys. Hope I'm proven wrong.
I tend to agree. Sebolt creates Tulsa champs, but his kids' style has rarely brought college success.i thought spencer looked like he was moving better this time out. i'm firmly in the "he needs matches" camp. he's always wrestled his way into shape/top form slowly through the season. he needs real matches to get there. finding the balance is important.

Drake and Ryder will have something to say about this.I tend to agree. Sebolt creates Tulsa champs, but his kids' style has rarely brought college success.
Neither Shriever or Riggins were at a recruiting rank level to be big impact guys. So far Schriever is what you would expect and would probably be a little higher if not for being injured. Ayala is a blue chip and looks the part so far.I tend to agree. Sebolt creates Tulsa champs, but his kids' style has rarely brought college success.
He visited and I am sure they did offer but Franklin had been committed for a while already and at the time he committed was considered a bit higher end recruit. They were a 1 or 2 point match earlier this season so who knows but Voelker seems a bit more fluid. This falls under recruiting evaluation and planning which while it doesn't always work out for every staff the Iowa staff is not especially gifted in this area in my opinion. They target too many unathletic grinder types and don't cover weight classes like they need to. Also they seem a bit lazy when it comes to seeking people out, they tend to take the more convenient recruits which are often in state or someone they have an existing connection with or grew up as Iowa fans. The big name national recruits usually don't have Iowa on their final choices lists unless they are in state. Why didn’t Iowa offer Voekler? In state kid. I’d take him over Franklin all day. Or maybe I should ask was Voekler to expensive and maybe Franklin was the better “deal”? Only having the 9.9 scholarships suck lol

For starters, his kids hardly ever ride a kid.I tend to agree. Sebolt creates Tulsa champs, but his kids' style has rarely brought college success.
We are seeing what happens with mid level recruits, maybe. It’s always going to be that way. We need the ten best hammers money can buy. Anything else is a hope and dream.I'm hoping what we are seeing with Franklin and Riggins is a transformation from a high school version to a college version of these guys both physically and style wise where they are not a good product on the mat right now because they are adding mass and working on new techniques that aren't quite there yet. Your post doesn’t look so idiotic today…Honestly I’m not so sure of that at all. If Spencer were 100% then yeah, but with the rust he’s knocking off his neutral attacks and gas tank, along with Ayala having been under him already in the practice room, I think Ayala wouldn’t be a good matchup for him. A terrible matchup quite frankly.
he won 16-5 against a junior world champ lol. ayala might not get teched and score a few late, but he's not coming close.Your post doesn’t look so idiotic today…
The Kids a freestyle and Grecco whiz more than anything. He’s a true freshman, # 50ish recruit who finished 4th or 5th last year at Super 32 if I’m not mistaken. Hell, I think Jax Forrest would give him a run for his money if they wrestled today so I certainly think Ayala beats him easily. Also, there’s this thing called wrestlestat. We can see he’s 8-5 on the year with his best win against an Ok St. backup.he won 16-5 against a junior world champ lol. ayala might not get teched and score a few late, but he's not coming close.
Sword making material, cuts of beef, 🔨s ... so hard to keep track. We need the ten best hammers money can buy.
Just some friendly advice but trying to mask ignorance by typing longer posts isn't working. He visited and I am sure they did offer but Franklin had been committed for a while already and at the time he committed was considered a bit higher end recruit. Spencer Lee- young guns connection.
ADS- connection to Spencer Lee
Kem- young guns
Young- young guns
Cass- somewhat local, camped at Iowa.
Kennedy - coach was Iowa wrestler and Iowa fan.
Murin- young guns
Ayala, Schriever, Rathjen, Kueter, Jesuroga all in state and good relationship with club coach.
The Montana kids had a connection to Terry.
The Colorado kids in the past had a connection to Terry.
Eierman had wanted to wrestle for Iowa.
Woods has Izzy connection.
Bull- girlfriend went to Iowa and I think he has stated was an Iowa fan to an extent.
Warner, Franklin and Arnold are 3 guys I can think of that didn't have a connection per say although Warner is pretty local.
A number of other staffs are better at identifying and landing guys they didn't have an in on to start with. It's not often Iowa cold call targets a big name kid and signs them and haven't been especially successful finding diamonds in rough either.
He is still the best in the world at his weight class. It’s shocking to me that people still doubt him. Baffling really.
