Absolutely no doubt about that. I am only criticizing because after a few of his comments, you could hear crickets and for good reason
More depth still at Midlands. If they improve it as much next year as they did this year, the SS will be cooking with fire.

Just need UNI and SDSU to commit their starters. And maybe a rotation of the Big Ten team(s) we don't dual.
Would also be nice if Army came back with their starters. Wyoming also.
I wonder why Army didn’t bring their starters this year unless the dual they had with Iowa earlier in the season was a deciding factor, perhaps?
I thought we had a dual last year and they came to SS also but I don't remember for sure, maybe it was the first year of SS. I thought they were pretty competitive with us this year (alot more than Princeton that night) unless they decided nothing more could be gained.
Not trying to start anything but why would UNI commit to sending there starters to the Soldier Salute?
Iowa and Brands have gone out of their way to not commit to a dual with them.
It would be nice if they did dual and both attended the tournament. Iowa Syate as well, all three used to go to Midlands AND dual each other.
Heck “back in the day” Iowa and ISU did a home and home plus both went to Midlands.

My guess is tom knows once beth sees doug she will want to hire him! Class act and better coach!
Iowa will and can do a lot better than Doug Schwab once TNT retire.
Iowa is limited to 15 competition dates just like everyone else. 8 are mandatory for Big Ten, 2 for long existing rivalries in Iowa State and Okie St, and 1 for a Holiday tournament (SS). That leaves 4 dates open. You’re saying Iowa should clog up one of those to dual UNI? Tom and Terry are more worried about growing the sport than beating up on an inferior in state school. They traveled to Oregon St this year to help Pendleton try to build a program and grow wrestling in the PNW. They went to Louisville to wrestle a new D1 program to help build that up and grow wrestling in KY. Plus teams are interested in traveling to different places. It’s a point of recruiting in all sports. Travel to Cedar Falls or to Oregon, California, NY, PA, StL, KY, etc?
If UNI really wanted their shot at Iowa, there’s an open tournament in Coralville just an hour and 80 miles away from home where they can have their shot. It seems they’re more interested in talking about Iowa than actually wrestling them. All hat, no cattle type of thing.

Point is, Iowa does not want to wrestle UNI. It’s not the dates or the Big 10, it’s Iowa and that is 100% fine but you can’t expect UNI to drop a date to bring starters when they already go to Vegas.
Like I said, I am not trying to start anything and it’s not a secret why Iowa wrestled UNI before and not now. I am a UNI grad and we have been Iowa season ticket holders since the late 90’s when my wife started teaching in Iowa City.
I think it would do far more for wrestling if Iowa wrestled UNI than wrestling Stanford, Princeton or Army.
UNI is a program that was on the blocks not very long ago, the athletic programs are in serious need of funds AND infrastructure! If they were to drop the program, Iowa will have played a huge part in its demise.
So the betterment of the sport argument isn’t a strong one.
They could wrestle Bellarmine and UNI the same night if they wanted to.

If Schwab wants a dual, he should show up at SS to start the process
UNI did always go to midlands when Iowa went. That didn’t help them get a dual. I couldn’t care less if Iowa duals UNI. Just saying.

I believe Doug was there, not sure if his hat was in hand. UNI got second with only those two starters.
He brought at least two likely starters.

Again, just looking at it for the betterment of the sport. I am a Hawk fan and an Inner Circle member but would like to see Iowa wrestle UNI.

Also a UNI guy here. The issue--right or wrong--is that Iowa refuses to wrestle at UNI and UNI won't agree to only wrestle at Iowa.
UNI had the SS on their schedule this year which means the CK is irrelevant.
Iowa isn't afraid of UNI. They beat the snot out of UNI more often than not.
One out of two isn't bad. Doug is a fantastic guy but he is not a great coach. He's at about the level he should be.
If Iowa ever hires Doug, I will be excited for him and proud to have a man of his character leading the program. But I will be disappointed we didn't do better.
