Soldier Salute updates

Well. Currently there’s one legit tourney. CKLV. SS happens to compete directly with the most historic tournament in the ncaa. Might take a few years to develop. Aside from that there used to be quite a few solid tournaments but teams have gone away from that model. UNI, Missouri open, scuffle, Reno, all used to be meat grinders. Teams must not like the risk
Agreed. I don't think post-Christmas tourneys will ever be popular again.

You are the best. It's tough to figure out that I was asking how many starters are in this tourney to make a point. You are keeping in character though. This tournament is currently the UNI Open at the end. I wish it was better but it's 4-5 starters per bracket. This isn't college football where schools are locked into a schedule. There is a reason that everyone is guessing what Iowa's schedule will be in late October.

Starters is one metric but it’s flawed. It gives credit to a guy from Bellarmine but not for Daniel Cardenas. He’s not a starter but was 4th in the country last year. And how about guys like Sinclair and Merrill? Not starters but legit competition.

Most weights have a number of ranked wrestlers and NCAA qualifiers. That makes it a legit tourney. It’s proving itself. Still a lot of room for improvement but given how far it’s come in two years there’s no reason to think it won’t keep growing.

The UNI Open hasn’t been a good in season tourney for a solid 15-20 years.

Didn't Spencer get thrown to his back once or twice? It happens and very few are immune to it.

“I think he can be a 141 in college, he walks around at 160. I think with the intensity of the workouts and a disciplined diet he could be a 141 pounder. At that weight he'd be able to enforce his style on opponents at 149 he's at a bit of a disadvantage but you've seen guys like Bono has big time success at 150 that are short. He's taller than Bono.”
This is what Miguel’s club coach posted a while back.
His coach would know more than me, but Estrada looks massive for a freshman. I don't see him getting smaller.

He looks like a career 149 to me, maybe 157 in his 8th season.

That is mean. He is entitled to his shitty opinion just as much as everyone else.
Don’t disagree. That’s why I have my opinion about him. Pretty darn accurate to. All he was doing was trying to smear an event that is only 3 years in the making and has improved by leaps and bounds. Money made goes to a great cause. All he is doing is trying to give a back handed jab with Iowas wrestling program. Stab in the back about the Iowa brand.

Why have we not seen Victor Voinovich?
I saw him cornering his bro Kael in street clothes. I’m assuming injured?
Is there any way Estrada make 141? I Like what I have seen out of him.
Miguel won his first CA state title as a sophomore at 145 lbs. He competed at 150 his Senior year and was up at 157 earlier this year. His entire game is based on power and explosiveness. I think he loses a lot of that down at 141.

What is not to gain? Determines who is the better wrestler, unless there is a legit injury. Why have Drake wrestle Spencer a couple years ago? Why have Peterson wrestle Drake today?
I don’t think they should have. And yes legit injury is a concern. They wrestle each other already. I’m sure they see who gets the better and it doesn’t necessarily mean because one beats the other they should b the starter and they’d beat the rest of the competition

if you have your mind made up about RS Angelo, there is nothing to be gained from this match. but why have Gabe MFF instead of Angelo?

Doing so will preserve Angelo's NCAA undefeated status to include RS season, if he keeps it. Just because teammate matches don't count for NCAA qualifying algorithm doesn't mean they don't go in the record book, should he come out of RS.

Maybe his goal is undefeated 4xer, including RS. That'd make him GOAT material.

Then why are other Hawkeye wrestlers going head to head?

I have no idea. I’d think it’s up to the coaches unless these guys are adamant they want to wrestle. PSU does it routinely nobody seems to get bent out of shape when they do it
The difference is when PSU does it, they call it a no contest. This way it doesn’t make anyone look bad

And the only times PSU does this is when the outcome is known well in advance. This year PSU did it 3 times. Levi vs Matt Lee, Carter vs Ryder and Kerk vs Mirasola.

Like I said. Ask the coaches their logic. I’m not mad about it. I’m sure it would be a good match to watch but in this case one of them gets hurt this place goes apeshit. I want to see them beating other ppl up not each other
