No names released but teams are loading and number of entries are online for many teams. A couple of observations. Princeton WC has an entry. The only active member that I am aware of is Nate Jackson. Will Nate be at Midlands? He would definitely make 84 more interesting.

PSU has and entry. I know they tried to send Hall last year but missed the cut off. Who would they be sending? Maybe Lee? A lot of chatter of a 2nd semester 125 transfer. Is it the secrete transfer?

berge is wrestling according to a pod cast the other day, but I dont think he is going solo from the NLWC

Thought he just said he walks around at 195? 184 can't be that hard for him to make. Ugh we need him at 184.
Plenty of time for that. Finals, holidays, personal family matters... what he weighs at Midlands isn't too important when it comes to Nationals.

Having said that, if he plans to be '84 this year I'd like to see it by the OkSt meet, meaning he'll need to be 189.5 or less at Midlands.

Maybe with them both (PDIII/Wilcke) at 197 for Midlands; winner gets to choose which weight they want. Makes sense to me, but I'm just a simple man.

Just saw Nate Friday at Wilkes Open talked to him for a few minutes it was never mentioned

Is Berge 157?
yes, and the word on the street is Verk wins more than he loses in contested goes with Berge. What that means now, probably nothing, but Joe Lee wrestled up at 165 the other day and he is undersized there too.

Will be interesting battle next season to fill in for Zain.

184 looks kind of weak at Midlands so it might be better to have Downey go at 197. Glad that he is wrestling at all as it’s a good sign, time for the real season to start and see what we got.

Is Berge even going to be able to make 149 next year?

Downey is walking around at right at 200 or just under. So probably 194-5 after a work out. No way he could make 184 for Midlands comfortably so naturally going 97. However, really not big enough to go 97 for the season. Cash is probably a good 6-8 lbs heavier so easier for Downey to go to 84 and him to stay at 97.

No idea (he could now Im told), but the competition will dictate if he should Im guessing. If Pipher becomes Verks back up, only makes sense that berge becomes nolfs.

Somebody has to sit, no way around it barring injury or something else unforeseen at the moment.

...but wants to eat and enjoy the holidays...
So does every wrestler ever. I expect going whatever you way out of a post grad just trying his hand at folkstyle again but I'd expect this year's college studs to be down to fighting weight. Maybe its nothing but this doesn't seem like a great sign given the past history with a lack of discipline. But he is buddies with Richie Lewis.

Midlands has been scheduled for this coming week before today. If he was hoping and expecting to compete for the Hawks you'd think he would have been preparing for that.

If you are talking about Downey. He was taking 22 hours of course work, could not workout with the team, per NCAA rules, and still is pretty much right where he needs to be weight wise. He is nor eligible to wrestle with the Hawks at Midlands so there is no reason for him to cut to 84 for it. He’s close enough that 84 will be very do able by the time he is finally cleard by our compliance department.

Why prepare for one weight over another when you will most likely be wrestling unattached? Prepare for the upcoming season where it matters.
What does wrestling unattached matter? If he is going to wrestle for Iowa at 184 soon he should be prepared to go 184, especially if he walks around at 195. A different post of yours suggested he didn’t have time to train for Midlands. I don’t believe that at all. If he hasn’t trained this year, he’s going to get beat by top guys. I am all for Downey wrestling for Iowa. A little odd that they kicked guys off the team for a single drunken night of crime and then want Downey, but he’s done no major crimes. He’s had plenty of time to train and make 184. Why do you keep asserting that he hasn’t?

I believe he said on Twitter the other day that he was around 190. Downey is a grown man and 197 presents more completion for him at this tournament. No issue with him going at 197 this week. (And as everyone knows I’m not a fan of him at Iowa.)

First off he was at 200 before practice the other day. Second he is not allowed to practice with the team and will not be until he is certified. Third he was taking, and needing to pass, 23 credt hours, plus take his GRE exms. Was he working out with HWC members, yes. Is he in shape, yes but not the shape he will be in within a few weeks of becoming a member of the team. You certainly can have your opinion about the necessity of him wrestling 84 at the midlands but there is NO strategic value of him doing so. If you really think it is of such importance that he wrestle 84 perhaps you could tell us what that is, since he has kept his weight under control so that he will easily be able to make 84 in January.

I think the only real importance would be if he weighs in too high it might mess with what is the allowable weight loss per week for a descent down to 184.

Edit: Couldn't find a scale emoji...........sorry..........

Should not be an issue as he does not need to certify until his first official day of practice. If that turns out to be before the Midlands then it would, however, as of today don’t think that will be happening. Hopefully he certifies between now and January 14th, which will give him enough time to make 84.

Don't you have to certify in order to be allowed to compete in any collegiate match, which would include Midlands?

If he is competing for Iowa, Yes. Midlands is not your typical college tourney. We could send the entire HWC if they wanted to go. The certification process is an NCAA rule and applies to NCAA wrestlers, not club wrestlers.

Per NCAA weight certification rules. Any wrestler joining a team after October certification date, certification data must be submitted on the first day of practice with that team. That’s para phrased but basically what is said. Since Downey has not been on Hawks team, nor enrolled at Iowa and will not be a red shirt nor wrestling unnatached for us pretty sure will not be an issue. Honestly I do not know what rules are for wrestlers with absolutely no affiliation but if I were to guess it would simply be weighing in. Weight cert is a NCAA reg and Downey will not be representing any NCAA institution.

It’s not that important what he wrestles at midlands, but if hasn’t been training hard (as you implied), there’s going to be trouble. It’s more symbolic that he is ready. You initially said he didn’t have time to make 184. He only had 5-6 days whereas everybody else had a semester. I questioned that. That makes no sense. He’s had plenty of time. If he really walks around 195 (his words), then he should go 184, but it doesn’t really matter. Just think your excuse made no sense. But, since you creep on the wrestlers, maybe you are right.
