Some suggestions from a fan watching Iowa basketball for 42 yrs

Iowa needs to play Iowa State in the tournament...

Then at least one of us would have a win. W’s have been hard to come by for both teams.

------ He and his wife didn't like the fish bowl of Iowa City and wanted a warmer climate.

Not what I always heard as the reason.

I don't know if the fans really ran Lute out. He and his wife didn't like the fish bowl of Iowa City and wanted a warmer climate. George couldn't find a social life he wanted in Iowa City. Dollar Bob was a dumb ass for what he did to Dr.Tom. If we only could have had George recruit and Dr. Tom coach we would have had something.
Nice fantasy.

So do you guys know more? If that's all "fantasy", then what is the truth? Why did Lute leave? Why did George leave?

I just wonder why you would think Fran could not have done the same those 1st 2 years of George’s recruits than what Dr. Tom did. Because if you compare years 3-7 of both coaches Fran has won more B1G conference games and only 1 less NCAA tourney game. In year 3 Dr. Tom still had a roster of NBA players and went 10-8 in conference with 1 tourney win. The “I’d settle for Dr. Tom days” always puzzles me because the last 7 years basically HAS BEEN the Dr. Tom days.

??? Arizona was a doormat when Lute got there. He created what they have been. Iowa was a FAR superior basketball program to them when he left.

At the time it was well know why he left, and yes, his wife was a major factor though not the only factor. The media and fans played a part.

- every gutless media sportswriter who kisses athletic department’s ass to be on their good grace should ask for firing or resignation of Fran, his entire worthless crew, and Barta
- every Hawk fan should do the same
- Tyler Cook, and I try hard not to be harsh on these 18 to 22 year old kids, must stop playing like he’s posing for an NBA audition shot everytime he touches the ball
- how many air balls did Daley have? Reinstate Dolph now, even though he was suspended for a different reason
- don’t ever red shirt players when you have injury prone players like Pemsl
- hire coaches to replace the current ones who know how to make adjustments at the end of the season when other teams have figured us out
- send Moss to a mid major team he’ll be great there
- spend time with Garza. Help him get his confidence back. Help him get his spacing right for 3 points shots we all know he can make
- Iowa did major damage to its recruiting after these last few games and off the court issues. Not to share what we can do about this?

Other suggestions are welcomed.

To PersainHawk:
Turn off "Nancy Grace" on CNN and get up and go to an actual game instead of watching the game on TV.
How many games have you been to in the last "42" years? (Football & Basketball)
Quit bitchen about nothing you can change and do something positive with your life. Be a "Big Brother" or a mentor to someone.

Look at the facts -
Fran has done the best recruiting since "Lute" or "George".
The University of IOWA fired "Doctor Tom" for "Steve"!
"Steve" & "Todd" didn't work out.
Look at what Fran had when he took the job? (Not Much)
We had a shot at the "Sweet 16" with what you guys called a crappy team.
The IOWA fan base has become a bunch of primadonnas.
IOWA doesn't cheat or pay players.
Fran goes after the refs because he lets them know that IOWA is not soft and is "Not" going to take it. ( Am I happy with it, no, but I understand it.)
Just as Coaches are not perfect either are officials or refs. (My father is in the Hall of fame in the state of Illinois for officiating football & basketball for over 40 years) I did graduate in 1989 from IOWA.

Sorry to be taking this out on you but I am tired of the crying and expectations -- I live in Columbus, Ohio - where expectations are unreasonable in every sport and they get the pick of the litter of the top athletes. We need to develop a pipeline and I think that Fran is on Pipeline 2.0. (The first pipeline was with Woodberry and Gesell)

The football program has come a long way in their recruiting and that has been over 20 years. Give Fran the time to do it right.

Sometimes you make your own greener pasture. Bottom line, Lute (and/or his wife) decided it was better to be at Arizona than Iowa at the time. It happens.

And, you cannot deny the ...

Oh, I'm guessing money was involved somewhere along the line. ;)

If you think there are actually some D1 schools that don't ever cheat in some way, shape, or form... you need to wake up.

How much time should Fran get?
And why didn't Lick get more time?

Hawks finally sniffed the Sweet 16 under Fran. 9 years.
And I think they sniffed it in spite of Fran, not because of.
I think he has earned more time. Time will tell if this was some one-off tourney success or not.
Basically, Fran still sucks until I see some consistency.

The more you post, the more ignorant you sound.

He only had 3 seasons.
And he won as many conf. games his 3rd season as Fran did last season.
So, I don't understand the impatience with Lick, but Fran gets a decade plus.

Your hate for Fran must be pretty strong if you think there’s anything comparable between Fran’s record at Iowa and (redacted). Fran took the dumpster fire that (redacted) left and turned Iowa back into a respectable program.

Yes, Lickliter was trending down.
I'll give you that.
And Fran was 4-14 last year in the conference, same as Lickliter's last season. So there's that.

This year was great.
Will it continue?
Fran's earned it for now, at least.

Lick was a bad hire, plain a simple. It didn't look that bad on the day he was hired, but it turned out to be a mistake - so the U moved on.

With Fran, like Ferentz, the question is - will the next guy do better? Do you really want to keep churning though coaches, paying 2 or 3 at a time, because you are only "pretty good" and not "very good or great"?

Not a fan of Fran, but I certainly don't think he should be fired now.

Are you trolling or are you really being serious? I don’t honestly believe anyone can be this dense.

Lickliter’s B1G results got worse each year he was here and was 10-22 his 3rd and final season. Think about that 10-22. Iowa lost its leading scorer ever season Lickliter was here due to transfer and his leading scorer, amongst two other starters (3 total), were threatening to leave if he was retained.

Iowa’s attendance in Lickliter’s final season had fallen to 9,500, which ranked 48th. By comparison, Iowa’s attendance in 2017-18 ranked 28 with over 12,000.

May I suggest you delete your account and go find a school you can support.
This is a forum for people who love the Hawkeyes.

I’ve never, ever understood the crowd that says “this coach had this record in year x” as a reason for how the coach is failing or should be fired. It is completely unrealistic to think that each year the coach is at a program their record is automatically going to be better the next year. If that was the case, then there would be a dizen teams undefeated and winning co-national championships every year.

Most coaches and teams are going to have down years once in a while for various reasons. Yes, 2017 - 2018 was an awful year but that was in the midst of 7 seasons with 4 NCAA and 2 NIT appearances. Using the logic of one bad year because in year 9 when other years sandwiches around it are good does not make sense.

In 1990, Iowa and Dr Tom finished 4-14 in the B1G. In 1994, Iowa finished 5-13 and in last place of B1G. Would anyone in their right mind ever compare Dr Tom’s with Todd Lickliter’s coaching tenures at Iowa?

Great. Thanks for the suggestion to become a big brother to make something of my life. And as I do that, please GFY!

Greener recruiting pastures. Don't try and say Iowa has more/better recruits than So. California.

The Fran haters don't like the fact that if he stays 4 more years and averages 23 wins a season, he will pass Dr. Tom for most wins at Iowa. He will have done it in the same time frame as well if he gets it done in 4 years. probably 5 years at the most though. Course--he will pass Dr. Tom in losses soon too at Iowa!

-------Wisconsin does just fine you bigot.

Agreed.....quit offending whitey.

Honestly, he is just stating what everyone already knows....enough of the Iowa Mr. Basketballs...nice stories for the true bigots....but not next level athletes.

Fran's brought in 3 Iowa Mr BBs. Wieskamp, Bohannon and Jok. But yeah, enough of them.

Iowa City is closer to Chicago and as close to the Detroit area as Tuscon is to LA. I'd say Iowa has just as good of a recruiting area as AZ. Sure seems like Lute did pretty well while he was at Iowa.

I totally forgot about the transfer problems.

So Iowa never cheats?
lol

You should get out of Adel sometime. Or wherever you are.

Do you have any evidence of Iowa cheating? If so, post it. Let us in on your secret.

I called you ignorant for your comparison of Fran and Todd Lickliter. I called you ignorant for saying Iowa won in spite of Fran, not because of Fran. I believe I even called you a POS in another thread for posting this same nonsense. You’ve done nothing but back pedal since posting your stupid crap and everyone has called you out.

What the hell are you even bringing up Adel for? I don’t think I’ve ever stepped foot in Adel. Are you saying that you’re some kind of world traveler or something?

Ouch, I'm a bigot.

Actually, Wisconsin has been fairly mediocre lately, but they play slow ball which works with their personnel.

But, yes, your point is well taken. Of all the Top 25 teams in the country, one is lily white. Fantastic point.
Actually, you are a racist. Bigots even hate you. You constantly bring your racist crap to this board. If this were my board, you would be bounced. It must chap your black ass, or black wannabe ass, everytime that Iowa's white boys win a game.

Lol.

You're old and senile.

Is Tim Dodge for real? I would rather run over my own foot with a lawnmower than watch another game coached by the Todd. He destroyed the program and I'm still shaking off the effects.
