Maybe Fran needs to do this in private, in the locker room. But this is unreal these days, calling out players, coaches and everyone else in public.
Yes, some a lot more than others but that doesn’t make this a good idea. Will be interesting to see how they respond. It’s a business now. Everyone is getting paid.
I'm guessing he's mentioned this stuff to his players just a couple times before this. It's everyone else's fault. Well, Mick, whose fault is that? Yours. You're the head coach. BTW What he's saying about individual players and even the entire team is best said in private. Not many of us appreciate being called out in public. Most of us respond much better if criticism is given in private. After doing so, if they don't respond, sit their asses on the bench. The bench can be a powerful teacher. But then let them know you see their effort when they do show it. He might be the nicest guy in the world, but what I see of him while he's coaching makes it appear he's a horse's ass who can never be pleased.
Most likely, I think. And if they don’t respond, you have to figure out how to get their attention. For Mick’s sake, I hope it works.I'm guessing he's mentioned this stuff to his players just a couple times before this.
Just so I’m clear, are you saying this is a recent thing, or something that should no longer happen? I remember Lute Olson calling out William Mayfield and Clay Hargrave after a game.Maybe Fran needs to do this in private, in the locker room. But this is unreal these days, calling out players, coaches and everyone else in public.
Got yelled at and thrown under the bus as a teen to early twenties at various jobs. In front of customers and bosses. I don’t agree with the management style. But that’s the way it is now. It’s a job. IMOYes, some a lot more than others but that doesn’t make this a good idea. Will be interesting to see how they respond.
Agreed. I hope Cronin has tried some other things and this is a last resort for him. It's all true but you keep that in house. I didn't care for those responses at all.

I know some college coaches in various sports who have retired because of what you’re saying. It’s partly NIL, but it’s more about no longer being able to get their players to work hard. And it could be. We have no idea what has gone on in house but those comments were pretty direct and targeted. A locker room would be a much better place for that speech.
Again, I very much believe he's spot on with everything he said. Kids hear all the time how great they are by AAU programs to keep their parents paying to be on the team/ keep the best players so they win and build a brand, their high school coaches to keep them out/ not transfer, their college coaches to keep them at their school.
Many kids really, really struggle to hear the truth and when you say it, they blame you and leave. They also have no idea what it means to work for what you want to be.

What every generation has said about the next. You basically can't have any punishments for anything anymore. If it's not on your practice plan, athletes can go and complain that you were being too harsh. It's nuts...
I didn’t know Bruce Willis got into coaching…Maybe Fran needs to do this in private, in the locker room. But this is unreal these days, calling out players, coaches and everyone else in public.

Ha! Classic Alford !At least he didn’t blame the band for not being there.
What makes you think he doesn't? Fran yells at a player - this Board goes he's abusive. Fran yells at a ref - Fran is unhinged. I guarantee that if Fran did exactly what Cronin did this Board would explode. Nobody has any idea of what he says to his players in private and that is exactly where it should stay. I love how so many think dressing your team down to the public is the best way to go when many of you can't handle a single bit of criticism to a post.Maybe Fran needs to do this in private, in the locker room. Outside of that final four run, he’s basically had the same level of success as Steve Alford. Cronin is a better coach than Alford but unfortunately hasn’t done much. His offensive system is nonexistent, doesn’t recruit at a high level, fails to make good evaluations, doesn’t develop players, and has an abrasive personality. Fair enough - I just read it as you felt he needs to do it, rather than this is where may in fact already be doing it. Stuff like this rarely ends well for the coach or the team unless there is a tremendous amount of "street cred" that the coach has built up with all involved.Did you read my post? One poster from the UCLA board, sounds familiar huh?

he does, do you ever see him bench someone for anything defense or hustle related to 5% the extent most coaches do?Fair enough - I just read it as you felt he needs to do it, rather than this is where may in fact already be doing it. and would you generally disagree with that? Because it is true way more often than not. What every generation has said about the next.
While I get your point, have we crossed into "that's too far" territory? Having coaches go to the compliance office when you have a hard practice?
I think such broad generalizations are generally worthless.and would you generally disagree with that? Because it is true way more often than not.
is it true though?I think such broad generalizations are generally worthless.
I don't try to be a mind reader or make assumptions on why anyone does what they do.he does, do you ever see him bench someone for anything defense or hustle related to 5% the extent most coaches do?
I didn’t know Bruce Willis got into coaching…
Getting used to BIG officials lol.
