What Iowa is is an institution of higher learning that also offers twenty-four programs for athletic competition to its student athletes. What Iowa is not, is an institution that offers significantly less opportunity while maintaining minimal standards.

There is a thread/post somewhere on here where a certain isu poster with over 80K posts to his credit (?) expounded on the potential opportunity for isu to participate in one of the now forty bowl games if they could only reach five wins on the season. What that posted neglected to consider was that the APR would be a determining factor in deciding which teams could be even eligible to be chosen for bowl play. Even with five wins, it would have been far down the list before isu would have sniffed a bowl invite.

Actually, no. They go to Iowa and ISU because their admission standards at Illinois are 200 points higher on the SAT than for the Iowa schools.

Funny thing is how that rarely translates to the football and men's basketball teams. Numbers of players was similar for football, but it does not take a whole lot of research to determine the contribution of several Iowa born and bred athletes to the Hawkeye success. Can the same be said for isu?

Hey, no one denies that isu is a basketball school. No one with any ability to think believes that being a basketball school only will mean anything when it comes time to possibly realign the Power 5 to better facilitate the current football playoff system. Most are certain that Kansas understands that. The question is does isu and more particularly its fans?

I havent had a chance to ask any cyclone friends yet but why did your fans storm the court?
Its cause they beat the hawks.That's why. They have nothing better to think about. Their football team is terrible and their basketball program is top 5. So the entire fan base is rallying around the basketball team. IF they lose in the first weekend of the NCAA tournament, Ames will be on suicide watch. There will be tons of depressed fans.
