Sorry, but I don't get it....

Weren't two of them almost 100% certain to be out at this point, and didn't we (or at least Fran and his staff) know that pre-season? I feel like we talked all off-season about how Bohannon would end up taking a redshirt year anyway, and presumably Fran knew Patrick's status a long time ago. So, in my opinion, the surprise injury is Nunge? Fredrick for a couple of games too, I know.

I'm not saying this could have been perfectly planned around, but I am saying that your post above is actually kind of odd given truly intelligent Iowa basketball fans (there are some) would have been able to tell you in September that Bohannon wasn't going to be on the team by the heart of the B1G schedule, and the coach should have been able to tell you his son wouldn't be available either. Could anything have been realistically been done to address it at that point is the issue to discuss, and maybe the answer is no.

This is D! basketball, not fantasy basketball. Players with talent, with eligibility, don't just magically become available. Injuries happen that depletes depth. Just deal with that fact. Just how many teams do you think run 10 deep? The same one's that have several transfers at the end of the year.

Go back to two big guys? I certainly hope Nunge is not starting next year.

Admittedly, I do like the 4 guard lineup that we've had due to injuries, although I think it's drawbacks are showing up in b10 play - guys are just getting worn down (particularly Connor playing the 4). We also just don't have much flexibility, this really is the only way we can play this year.

Depending on the readiness of the Murray twins, I do think it's possible that we roll out this 4 guard lineup again, also depending on how ready or not Ogundele is, if Cordell comes back or transfers, Patrick's health, etc. Lots of talent on the team next year, but also many, many questions.

I'm not criticizing it as much as you seem to think, but at the same time there are a ton of transfers every year. If Iowa knew it was going to likely be down two players then that's a great way to lure a transfer. And to Fran's credit, he went out and got Evelyn, but that's not really working out anyway since Evelyn has only managed to impact one game.

For what it is worth - I also agree 100% with this line: Injuries happen that depletes depth. Just deal with that fact. For sure, that's true and I'd posit that we could survey every other B1G coach (as well as Fran) and they'd all say "yeah, you kind of have to plan for somebody to end up hurt because injuries happen and they deplete depth, so we just have to deal with that fact too"...
