Spencer vs RBY for the Hodge

Watched the Prince of Pennsylvania for about the 10th time and one of the wrestlers said Dave Schultz was like wrestling a python. When I watch Spencer on top, that’s what it seems like. Opponents aren’t getting returned to the mat. Most of them just don’t move for 20, 30 seconds at a time. He has them at his mercy, motionless more often than not. Even in 2018 Vs Suriano he was just stuck to the mat for extended periods of time.

You can tell he has rediculous grip strength. Being able to pin top 10 wrestlers like he has the past few matches is nuts.

Spencer is clearly best in class at weight/pfp, regardless of whether the class is a little thin this year.

If he wrestled another play with your food season we might be having a different conversation, but he’s done exactly what I’ve been looking for him to (finally) do: pin good wrestlers, routinely.

I wonder why Spencer hasn't moved up to 133 already. Get some food. Enjoy life. Since it's a given he would win that weight also.

It's not an unbearable cut by any means, so he is getting some grub in. More importantly he is a team first guy.... Iowa wrestling needs a 25 pounder, not 133. Hence why he hits the scales at 125.

You guys way overthink weights. Spencer’s is a natural 125 so he wrestles 125. RBY can’t make 125 so he wrestles 133. RBY said in an interview he weighed over 140 the morning of his match with Fix iirc. 125/57 isn’t happening for him. He’s following Bo’s path… a yolo attempt at winning a U.S. spot then full time MMA

Fyi Glory was 145 over Xmas and has made 125 since

RBY won't go 125 for the reasons stated above. If he did, the relationship with he and Gilman would be very different. Gilman has to be the alpha male. Also, I will give the former Hawkeye his due for his representation of Iowa as a Hawkeye. He lost me in his constant criticism of Iowa after he left. It was wrong and over the top and also unnecessary. Dake nor Snyder has done the same despite the same move away from their alma maters. They have handled things professionally. Gilman has not. I'm done with him; hope he stays out East and I hope a wrestler that is supportive of the Hawks forces him to put his shoes in the center of the mat after a crushing defeat.
I do not know if anyone caught this? At the beginning of the F*** st match against Michigan. There was a quick shot of what seemed to be all their club wrestlers coming out onto the mat. Gilman had what appeared to be a HWC jacket covered in paint. It was on TV so I could not go back and double check.

I think it was yet another attempt to put down HWC I guess saying I use this crap for rags kind of thing.

Virtually nobody in college is a "natural" 125 pounder. A 15 lb. cut can easliy be done in a day or two (which is now outside the rules). In High School back in the '70s, I came in to a Thursday practice at 132, planning on wrestling 126 Friday, and the coach told me our back-up at 119 (my usual weight) couldn't go, so he needed me there. I made 119 the next morning. Inversely I had a meet that year where I weighed in at scratch 119 in the morning and weighed 132 when I stepped on the mat that evening. In college, I weighed 140+ the first day of official practice and was a 118/126 pounder.

I swear I saw TG wearing a PSU pullover on Friday but I could be wrong. We all got a good laugh at him celebrating and fanboying after the Haines win too.

There was absolutely nothing wrong with his move to NLWC, but how he's handled himself since the move proves what everyone already knew about TG.

The person who said Thomas has to be the alpha male is spot on. There is a reason he wrestled at Skutt in Nebraska and not Lewis Central in Iowa where he grew up. That reason's name is Cory Clark, who Gilman couldn't beat. Sound familiar?

You can put your paranoia to rest for a moment. It was a NLWC vest that he was wearing.

Nothing paranoid Richard! I will have to look again, but it was either the ugliest damn kittie jacket or something that looked like paint was splattered all over it?

I believe you're correct about it being paint splatter but it was most definitely a NLWC vest.
