How about playing a six game (divisional opponents) starting in early March. The winners of each division would meet in the championship game after taking a week off. Then if the PAC 12 would do the same thing the two champions could meet in the Rose Bowl to earn the National Spring Championship in early May. By that time there would be little competition for TV viewing and publicity. Hopefully by March we might have a vaccine and you could fill the stadiums and gain back a little of the money lost. The start of the 2021 fall season could be pushed back a couple of weeks to give a longer break between seasons. I suspect there are hundreds of reasons this might not work, but it is an idea worth looking at.
